The Michigan Court of Appeals has upheld the University of Michigan's campus gun ban, ruling that because the university is considered a school it is exempt from Second Amendment mandates and able to develop its own firearms policies.

The decision written by appellate Judge Mark Cavanagh and joined by Judge Deborah Servitto marks the second time a Court of Appeals panel has ruled in the case filed by Ann Arbor resident Joshua Wade. A third judge on the panel, Judge David Sawyer, retired in December and did not weigh in on the ultimate decision.

The Michigan Supreme Court in November remanded the case to the appellate court against after a June 2022 U.S. Supreme Court ruling touching on gun rights.

If you plan to use your rifle at night or in low light conditions, a rifle light is essential because you dont want to be shooting what you cant see. Personally, a rifle flashlight has helped me out more than once in low-light situations when I was out in the field.

Rifle lights are flashlights mounted on your rifle and can make your firearm a lot more versatile and functional in the dark. You can use it to identify targets at night or even use it during the day in dark places.

Ruger Security-380 Compact Pistol Review

In the past two years, I reviewed the Ruger Security-9 full-size 9mm and the Ruger Security-9 Compact 9mm models. I appreciate the excellent performance and features of these fine Ruger guns, so I want to review, and field test their new short-barreled Security-380 compact pistol for concealed carry use. Several readers and students have asked me for a softer shooting pistol with less felt recoil. Some have hand injuries and want less felt recoil or an easier-to-rack slide due to a medical condition like arthritic hands. Would this new .380 Auto meet these needs, and would it work for concealed carry?

Welcome to todays Photo of the Day! Here we have an interesting lesser-known gas cartridge revolver. This is a Harrington and Richardson Model 150 Gas Cartridge Revolver. These bad boys (or good boys) were made from 1940 to 1941. I could find very little information about them beyond general specs and what a gas cartridge revolver is. These were made for self-defense and used 38 caliber CS tear gas cartridges.

In 2008, over 200 years after the United States adopted the Second Amendment, the U.S. Supreme Court unilaterally redefined its meaning a collective right to maintain armed, well regulated militias, reserved for states mutated into an individual right to possess firearms overnight without congressional authority. If special interests can unilaterally reinterpret the U.S. Constitution without consent of the governed, can we call it democracy?

Yesterday, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and FPC Action Foundation (FPCAF) filed a brief opposing the federal governments motion for a stay pending appeal in VanDerStok v. Garland, which asks the Fifth Circuit to allow ATF to enforce its frame or receiver rule while the lawsuit continuesdespite the fact that a federal court already found the rule to be an illegal usurpation of ATFs congressionally limited authority. The brief can be viewed at FPCLegal.org.

While Americas 1st Freedom readers are well aware of the National Rifle Associations all-important political advocacy that has saved the Second Amendment time and time again over the past several decades, many may not be as familiar with the tens of thousands of NRA-certified instructors spread out across America.

The NRA is recognized nationally as the gold standard for safe firearm training, developing millions of safe, ethical, responsible shooters and instructors; in fact, the NRA trains more than a million people throughout the country each and every year!

With the Supreme Court delivering victory after victory for the conservative legal movement under its current 6-to-3 Republican-appointed majority, one can expect that the high court will be the animating issue for GOP voters and elites alike for the foreseeable future. With Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito the conservative anchors on the bench reaching older age, could an appellate court judge from Texas be the next star conservatives will adore?

That said, a 7-year-old state law initially aimed at ratcheting down domestic violence is, in fact, about guns. And a group trying to spread the word about that category of gun law, known as Gun Violence Restraining Orders, is Human Options, an Irvine-based nonprofit aimed at helping victims of domestic violence.

We were part of domestic violence death review team two years ago that looked at more than 100 (homicide) cases (over an 11-year window) involving intimate partners in Orange County, said Maricela Rios-Faust, chief executive of Human Options.

After an Illinois circuit court judge sided with the state that the Firearm Owners Identification card is constitutional, the plaintiff plans to appeal.

The FOID card was enacted in the 1960s and has gone through various reforms since. The ID issued by Illinois State Police for a $10 fee is required for Illinoisans to buy or possess firearms and ammunition. Illinois is one of four states that require a state-issued permit to buy or own a firearm and ammunition.

John Boch with the organization Guns Save Life filed the lawsuit challenging the FOID card in 2019. Boch argues the law violates the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and that the fee is exorbitant.

Wyoming will soon be home to a world-class, best-in-the-nation recreational shooting sports complex. That much is certain. Its not a question of if or when, but more so a question of where.

The buzz around a future $10 million shooting complex in the state, as well as building momentum from successful competitions in previous years brought dozens of competitive shooters from across the country back to Casper, Wyo., for the second year in a row for the Magpul Wyoming Governors Match.

In conversations about gun safety, we regularly hear the experiences of domestic abuse survivors co-opted by those who oppose firearms regulations. They assert the idea that survivors need to have immediate access to guns for self-defense and cite that as a reason to resist any firearm safety laws, such as universal background checks and waiting periods to ensure that guns are not sold to people who have demonstrated they present a risk to themselves or others.

At the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence, in our 45-plus years of working with victim-survivors in our state, we have heard a very different story about domestic abuse and firearms one that supports these policy advancements.

The China Spring couple have four children under the age of 7 and hadnt had a date night in more than two years.

However, their special evening took a disturbing and violent turn around 3 a.m. Saturday when they were awakened by the piercing screams of women calling out in distress, according to an account provided Friday to KWTX by Nelsons attorney, Bryan Cantrell.

Nelson, a disabled veteran who served in an Army special operations unit in Afghanistan, jumped out of bed to investigate what was happening just a few doors away from his room at the Hotel Indigo, 211 Clay Ave.

Our nations capital is experiencing a wave of violent crime this year. Compared to 2022 , there has been a 54% increase in robberies, an 18% increase in homicides, and a 6% increase in assaults with a deadly weapon. There have been numerous murders of young people, predominantly occurring with firearms , with seemingly no end in sight.

How could this be when the District of Columbia has some of the nations strictest gun laws in the nation?

This happened after CRPA and SAF sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors explaining why the planned ordinance would be unconstitutional, said CRPA President Chuck Michel, a longtime practicing attorney and gun rights authority in California. It is truly unfortunate that San Francisco politicians refuse to respect the Second Amendment and cant accept the new legal reality that people have a Second Amendment right to carry a firearm in public.

Yes, we could stop manufacturing guns, except for military and police firearms but, again, what will that change? There are already millions of guns stashed away in American homes. And you cant confiscate all of them.

Plus the smuggling of guns and ammo into our country is unstoppable. Period. Guns, unfortunately, are here to stay.

Maybe we could vet potential gun owners better, but thats a hopeless tactic. Anyone who wants to can get their hands on a gun and bullets.

Abolish the Second Amendment? That would make no difference. And the answer surely is not for everyone to go out and buy themselves a gun.

The clerk came over and told me, The ATF has approved you, but were denying the purchase, Trimble told the Second Amendment Foundations Investigative Journalism Project earlier this week.

Astonished, Trimble demanded to know what was going on. The salesperson said Trimbles brother-in-law had tried to buy a firearm at the store a month ago but self-denied on the 4473 most likely because he misread a question. Unfortunately, Trimbles brother-in-law, who had lived with him several years ago, moved out but never changed the address on his drivers license.
