"Federal gun regulators have written to gun dealers around Tennessee, dropping the hammer on a new state law that exempts weapons made, sold and used inside the state from interstate regulations."

"The letter, dated just days ago, was distributed to holders of Federal Firearms Licenses."

"In it, Carson W. Carroll, the assistant director of the [ATF], told dealers the Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act, adopted this year, 'purports to exempt personal firearms, firearms accessories, and ammunition manufactured in the state, and which remain in the state, from most federal firearms laws and regulations.'"

"The exemption is not right, the federal agency letter contends." ...

"With the recent hearings into the nomination of Federal Appellate Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to fill the U.S. Supreme Court seat being vacated by retiring Associate Justice David Souter, several constitutional issues are once again entering the halls of public debate. While the First and Fourth Amendments will consistently be debated, debate over the Second Amendment seems to be elevated during the nomination process. In the case of Judge Sotomayor, the debate over the Second Amendment was catalyzed by her recent decision in Maloney v. Cuomo, a decision from the Federal 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals." ...

Curious to know how this was working out, once again Alabama militiamen infiltrated the jack booted thugs at play and retrieved some amazing intelligence.

The Thune Law was voted down in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday with the help of Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, earning them the praise of city Mayor David Roefaro, who had adamantly opposed the law.

The federal legislation would have allowed people with concealed weapons permits the right to carry their firearms into other states that have similar gun laws.

H/t to David Codrea who points out "What's to be irate about? It's just a little good old-fashioned 'foot-stomping street justice.' And with the involvement of the entire chain of command in the lying and cover-up, it's not like we can blame a few bad apples. Hell, this is obviously SOP, and for City Manager Bartolotta to pretend he thinks otherwise ain't exactly convincing."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Gov. Jon Corzine says recent deadly shootings in Jersey City and Newark show "we must do everything in our power" to stem the flow of illegal guns into New Jersey.

Corzine made the remarks Wednesday as he and Attorney General Anne Milgram announced the indictments of 12 people for owning or selling firearms later used in crimes. The governor credited the weapons trafficking charges to a two-year-old federal, state, local gun-tracing partnership.

The shotgun blast that killed Jersey City Detective Marc A. DiNardo came from a weapon stolen in North Carolina and trafficked to New Jersey, authorities say.

In a related matter, Corzine said he would sign a bill limiting handgun purchases to one a month within a week.

"It looks as though many municipalities will opt out of the Guns in Parks Law that was recently passed ..."

"Personally, I don't think that local law trumps the Second Amendment. Were I to possess an HCP (maybe I do), I would carry concealed."

"How will anyone know if I am armed at Cane Creek Park? That's for me to know and the authorities to find out. You can bet on one thing: a criminal will have no second thoughts about carrying his gun." ...
