Two Attacks In Less Than A Year, Had Very Different Outcomes

I spent the first 10 years of my working life in EMS, first as an EMT, then as a Paramedic. As a result, I know just how dangerous the job can be. These two incidents - one of which involved an armed paramedic - highlight to need to allow EMS personnel to protect themselves.

Bruen. This is the first Second Amendment case to be heard by SCOTUS in over a decade. Both that case, McDonald v City of Chicago, and the preceding 2A case, District of Columbia v. Heller, included discussion of knives as arms in the majority opinions.

In what may be the largest survey of physician attitudes about firearms and how firearm-owning surgeons store guns in their homes, U.S. members of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) said they support the organization taking an active role in advocating for policies and programs designed to lower the risk of firearm-related injuries and deaths. The advocacy initiatives they support include preventing people with serious mental illness from buying firearms and cracking down on illegal firearms sales.

Results from the survey of 54,761 U.S. ACS members, of whom 11,147 responded, have been published as two articles on the website of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS) in advance of print.

In a depressing New York Times piece titled Loneliness Is Breaking America, Michelle Goldberg discusses research that shows that being socially isolated, disconnected, and alone is highly correlated with being a rabid Trumpist, a QAnon believer, and/or a COVID truther. Goldberg quotes Damon Linker writing in the Week about recent studies that show the number of both men and women who claim to have no close friends increasing five-fold over the past 30 years. Its not just that its fundamentally unhealthy to be so lonely.

Expensive vs. Budget Ammo: What's the Difference?

Of all these considerations, price is the least important, but also the element that is most often deliberated. This is partly because humans are opposed to paying for things they think are overpriced, and partly because money does not grow on trees.

Before we get into how much you should spend, lets look at what ammunition actually costs. A major online retailer lists more than 200 loads for the 9 mm Luger cartridge. Prices range from as little as $0.24 to as much as $2.00 per round, begging the question as to whether one round of 9 mm Luger ammunition can actually be worth 10 times as much as another.

The ammunition shortage that began in 2020 continues and lack of inventory makes it a frustrating time for enthusiasts and retailers. Its no pleasure cruise for manufacturers either, whose Herculean efforts have yet to refill shelves for a variety of reasons, including the underreported fact that commercial cartridge production is laborious.

Companies added staff, increased shifts and invested in equipment to address the record-setting demand. The Remington ammo plant is once again operating at full capacity and many retailers are finally reporting 9 mm and 5.56x45 mm NATO FMJ loads are in stock. Its a different story for other cartridges, though, particularly self-defense, match and hunting loads.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday said his administration wants to push for legislation that bars high-capacity magazines for handguns and rifles.

Im the only guy that ever got passed legislation when I was a senator to make sure we eliminated assault weapons, Biden said during a CNN event on Wednesday, referring to the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act that included a ban on so-called assault weapons. The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon, whether its a, whether its a 9mm pistol or whether its a rifle, is ridiculous.

Attorney General Daniel Cameron joined a coalition of 26 states arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court that a New York law violates the Second Amendment.

The states filed an amicus brief in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Corlett, urging the court to declare New Yorks firearm licensure unconstitutional.

To obtain a permit to carry a firearm outside the home, the State of New York requires citizens to demonstrate a special need for self-protection distinguishable from that of the general community or of persons engaged in the same profession.

But Im willing to allow the possession of such high-capacity, rapid-shooting weapons, or if public opinion is strongly against them their prohibition. I dont see it as a Second Amendment issue; rather, its more a societal concern to be decided by public opinion.

Background checks of people who want to buy weapons seem reasonable. I had to apply for a New York state license to have my Ruger pistol.

He voted against President Trump's pro-Second Amendment Supreme Court nominees, even after voting in favor of President Obama's anti-gun justices. He even pushed to turn friends and family members into criminals if they privately transfer firearms between each other. And now, the latest test of Senator Testers commitment to the Second Amendment comes in the form of David Chipman, President Joe Bidens nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 committed treason. They were armed with rifles, guns, knives, zip ties, rope, pepper spray and more guns. They put up a gallows ready to hang Pence and Pelosi! They urinated and spread feces on the walls and floor, yet the GOP refused to agree to an investigation.

There is something drastically wrong in America when the same political party that tries to take away voting rights, civil rights, human rights, social rights and constitutional rights encourages people to take up arms in the fear the that government is taking away our rights.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and their colleagues today reintroduced the Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) Protection Act of 2021 to address the rapid increase in the number of smash-and-grab thefts targeted at federally licensed gun dealers.

I am a staunch defender of Second Amendment rights, but I will not tolerate criminals who steal firearms, Senator Capito said. With burglaries and robberies of gun dealerships and manufacturers on the rise, Im proud to help reintroduce this legislation to deter would-be criminals and keep our communities safe.

The National Rifle Association on Thursday declined to endorse Republican Glenn Youngkin in the Virginia governors race, even as it endorsed the two other candidates on the partys statewide ticket.

The NRA issued endorsements for Winsome Sears, the GOPs nominee for lieutenant governor, and Del. Jason Miyares of Virginia Beach, the partys nominee for attorney general, whom both had received top ratings from the gun lobbying group. The group was mum on Youngkin.

To override the governors veto, a two-thirds majority vote was needed, meaning 26 of Louisianas 39 state senators needed to vote in favor of overturning the veto. The vote was 23-15, with one senator absent.

My priority in protecting my family from becoming victims of civil disorder is to surround myself with like-minded people who are trained in self-protection and who are ready to do anything necessary to survive. I have trained all my adult life in self defense and firearms, but I know that against a crowd of several people, I need others with me. Now many reading this article might be thinking that I am a warmonger or over exaggerating what might take place in this country. If you feel that way, then do not prepare, dont train, dont get with like-minded friends, and dont create a plan to survive.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. Charlton Heston
