"...I have seen Mr. Henry within this half Hour, & he informs me that he has collected already about 250 Arms, & shall be able to obtain about as many more..."
"...But I did not mean that any, the property of Individuals, should be taken; because I did not conceive myself authorised, nor do I at this time, to order such a Measure. I don't know how the Inhabitants would relish such an exercise of Power. I rather think it would give great uneasiness..."

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Questions of defense surround a deadly shooting on Jacksonville's Southside.
A man says someone followed him on South Old Kings Road early Monday morning. He says the man had a gun and was going to rob him -- but he had a gun, too -- and he fired.
So when it comes to self-defense, people do have certain rights. But it's not always easy to tell if that's why they acted.
...
Bujeda, with the JSO, says the robbery victim shot and killed 17-year-old Tommy Lee Kennedy.
The victim has been arrested numerous times, but every charge filed against him -- including four felony charges -- has been dropped. |

BALTIMORE - The public has a right to know who has been convicted of gun-related crimes, just as it does with convicted sex offenders, according to Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon.
The mayor has proposed creating a gun offender database, modeled after the registry for sex offenders, that would include the name, address, and photograph of anyone convicted of using a gun. As with sex offenders, gun offenders would have to register with police, in person, every six months or face jail. |

Rampart Range Road ascends above Garden of the Gods into Pike National Forest, eventually reaching a stretch of mountain that appears to be strewn with confetti. A shredded teddy bear lies on the ground. But this is no place for kids. Its Rampart Range Road Shooting Range the only public shooting range in El Paso County littered with colorful shotgun shells, spent metal cartridges, and makeshift targets, such as the teddy bear. The site has long been criticized as an eyesore and a safety hazard. In recent months, however, the Forest Service, which runs Rampart Range, has turned its attention to a new concern: lead. |

The Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Mo., produces nearly 1.4 billion bullets a year, a dizzying figure driven by the demands of war. "It's actually mind-boggling," said Karen Davies, Lake City's general manager. The question is, for how long? Although no one knows when the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan will end, Davies and other ammunition industry executives understand the heavy orders won't last forever. |

Last week, a mentally unstable man with a gun entered the State Capitol in Denver, and was fatally shot by security guards. As Rocky Mountain News columnist Mike Littwin pointed out on July 17, this was made possible in part by the fact that the Capitol's metal detectors had been removed: They used to have metal detectors for a while after 9/11, but eventually the legislators voted to remove them. They had no choice, I guess. The legislature was in the process of passing concealed-carry laws, and how do you explain that guns aren't the problem if you insist on putting a metal detector on your own door? |

In a court hearing, CNN authenticated one initial autopsy report that showed Ronald Madison-an unarmed, mentally retarded person with no criminal record-was killed by a shotgun blast to his back, even though the police officer told investigators that Madison had turned and reached in his waistband before that officer opened fire. Also killed on the Danziger Bridge was James Brissette, 19. |

Today a Marine not only convicted of conspiring to commit kidnapping, larceny, and making false statements; but the murder MURDER of an innocent Iraqi man, was given his sentence. He is to receive a reduction in rank and a bad conduct discharge.
THIS is what America has become.
It is now considered bad conduct to murder an unarmed man, knowingly return to the scene to fabricate the appearance of self-defense and hide the facts after the fact.
Murdering an innocent Iraqi is now considered Bad Conduct. |

Some of the issues I think are very important are the age of the candidate, position on the right to bear arms, the immigration mess, and most important, moral and family values.
Only one of the top three candidates fits the bill: Mitt Romney.
I was already leaning toward Mr. Romney, and I had the chance to attend a question-and-answer forum in Laconia this past spring. His knowledge of the issues and honest answers convinced me this was the candidate I would like to see as our next president. |

For years, Shelly Parker faced intimidation and harassment from the drug dealers and gang-bangers who roamed her neighborhood. Already frustrated because the police never did enough to make her feel truly safe, she was further dismayed by the fact that she could not own a gun to protect herself.
Parker is a resident of Washington, D.C., where gun ownership has been a crime.
Unwilling to just give up, Parker's tenacity resulted in action that may mean Washingtonians can exercise their constitutional right to own a gun for the first time in over 30 years. |

"We have looked at other jurisdictions that have put in bans on handguns, and it has not reduced crime with firearms, crime with handguns," Day told CTV Newsnet in an interview from Kelowna, B.C. on Monday.
"What does reduce crime with firearms, what is effective, is to have more officers on the street, which we are funding at the federal level -- a more aggressive approach to gun-smuggling." |

"As a legal scholar for many years and more recently as a top law school administrator in Fairfax, Virginia," said Snyder, "Dan has demonstrated his commitment to principles upon which the Society is based. Let me add to the June 20th, 2007, CollegiateTimes.com article, States look at gun policies, debate on-campus weapon carry. It's positively encouraging because it reports on a movement sweeping the nation. The bottom line on the question will be public policy and interest. Question: is it more in the public interest to see students carrying weapons than to see them unarmed and vulnerable? Is it in the public interest to question citizen authority to act and to characterize liberty individuals as anti-social, and to disarm them? Is it in the public interest to be alone and defenseless, or alone and armed not only with the personal weapon, but also with their legal authority? |

But he [Levinson] does insist that any method of interpretation must take the entire text seriously. For Levinson, who was a strong proponent of gun control at the time he published his Yale piece, the individual right to keep and bear arms was an "unhappy ending." But it was a price he was willing to pay for a consistent approach to constitutional interpretation that would yield happier endings from other portions of the text, including those that the Right might prefer to ignore: such as the Ninth Amendment's protection of unenumerated rights. |

Snyder wanted to rent a handgun and learn how to shoot it at Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply on March 30, but he was rejected after he noted a history of mental illness on the store's background check form, said the shop's owner, Tim Brough.
Snyder also told the store manager, Bill Cates, he needed to learn to shoot because he "was the divine leader of the nation and as such should know how to use a gun."
Cates suggested Snyder come back at a later date and take a handgun safety course first so Cates could determine whether he had severe problems. |
