"The [CCRKBA] said today that the decision by officials in Wilmette, IL to repeal their 19-year-old handgun ban is 'a victory of substance over symbolism.'"
"CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said the 1989 ban -- made infamous five years ago when Wilmette homeowner Hale DeMar shot a career criminal in the act of burglarizing DeMar's home for the second night in a row -- has never shown that it had any impact on violent crime."
"'It appears the only people affected by the ban were law-abiding citizens like DeMar who were ensnared by the ordinance for having guns that suddenly became illegal,' Gottlieb observed. 'Repealing the ban makes sense because the ordinance was grounded in nonsense.'" ... |

... "... I think that the 97% of the gun owning population that isn't on the same wavelength as Mr. Vanderboegh, SayUncle, and myself needs to be reminded that the Second Amendment isn't about hunting, target shooting, and gun collecting. There's a reason they enumerated an individual right to arms, and it had to do with watering the Tree of Liberty, if necessary."
"Where Mr. Vanderboegh and I differ is on when (or whether) that watering needs to be done. As I said in my own comment at Snowflakes in Hell:"
There's a group of people, and as far as I can tell it's growing, that not only believes that we're headed for violent revolution, they want it."

As reported in Sunday's Statesman, about 10 members of the local chapter of OpenCarry.org, a national group that advocates for citizens' rights to openly carry handguns, visited the zoo with their weapons in plain sight."

Americans have long maintained that a mans home is his castle and that he has the right to defend it from unlawful intruders. Unfortunately, that right may be disappearing. Over the last 25 years, America has seen a disturbing militarization of its civilian law enforcement, along with a dramatic and unsettling rise in the use of paramilitary police units ..."

You know what ends up happening when the majority of the people in this country who dont own gun, and dont care much about gun rights, start believing that gun owners are out to foment a civil war? They start agreeing to take our guns away.
Some may want an armed revolution, but I dont want to see it come to that. It is not inevitable or necessary at this point in time. Id prefer to solve this problem politically, and guys like this arent helping. Were winning right now, both politically, and the hearts and minds. It's the state whose former Governor was a professional wrestler, and whose next Senator might be a former comedian. And they've got a gun law there that is, well, quite astounding.
