A new report has identified a stretch of the Lawndale neighborhood as having more gun violence than any other area this year. It is what it is. I don't know why it's like that, but it is, said security guard William Hill. A Sun-Times report shows that a 10th district police beat leads the city in gun violence. That includes ten murders through the first half of this year, while police beats nearby have seen a drop in violence.

For a while after Sept. 11, 2001, a hideous question would flit uninvited across the back of my mind. If they can do that, I would wonder, what cant they do? If I allowed it to, another inquiry would swiftly join the first: If the Twin Towers were rendered as easy a target as they were, then what institution can truly be deemed to be safe?

A federal appeals court on Tuesday blocked the District from enforcing strict limits on carrying concealed firearms in public, restrictions that police officials have said are necessary to promote public safety in the nations capital. In a 2-to-1 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit said the Districts system, which requires a good reason to obtain a permit, is akin to an outright ban in violation of the Second Amendment.

In a stunning victory for concealed carry advocates, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued a permanent injunction against enforcement of such a requirement in Washington, D.C., but the ruling could have a ripple effect. The ruling is another court victory for the Second Amendment Foundation in a case called Wrenn v. District of Columbia. The 2-1 ruling was authored by Judge Thomas Beall Griffith, a 2005 George W. Bush appointee. He was joined by Senior Judge Stephen F. Williams, a 1986 Ronald Reagan appointee who assumed senior status in 2001.

While the past President of the United States and many seemingly benign Muslims will tell you that Islam is a Religion of Peace, the behavior of many tells a different story. Thbait makes it clear that there is no room for compromise when it comes to the commandments of Allah. Muslims, even conservative Muslims, must adhere to the teachings of the Koran or face the consequences.

On Friday, July 21, 2017, the office of Illinois Senator William Haine (D-Alton) issued a press release regarding Senate Bill 571 (SB571). If passed, SB571 will end a current Illinois state law, which exempts gun ranges from noise complaints - a loophole the release calls "a flaw." The proposal was filed by Haine after he said he received calls from several neighbors in the vicinity of an enclosed shooting range in Godfrey off Airport Road called Trigger Talent.

The Crime Prevention Research Centers 2016 concealed carry study found thatfor the second year in a rowa record-setting number of new permits was issued, 1.83 million nationwide. That brings the total number of people in the United States who have one up to 16.36 million, a 256 percent increase since 2007, it states. The figures dominated the news, especially the fact that 6.53 percent of all Americans now have a permit, but Potter County, PA, deserves some of the headlines. Aimee Williams never would have imagined her late 40s would involve being a magazine cover model. Even less likely was the fact that it would be the cover of a shooting magazine. Williams, 48, was featured on the cover of American Shooting Journal in June. The Nampa resident picked up shooting as a hobby in 2012 after going target shooting with her children for Mothers Day. Wanting to learn more about proper safety, Williams said she began taking classes and eventually purchased her own pistol. In 2013, she began competitive shooting.

Just about the time it appears they have been proven false and dismissed, the same self-defense and gun myths pop again. Part of this is probably due to the fact there are always new people who finally realize they need to do something about their personal safety and begin seeking answers. Unfortunately, it is also due to the tendency of some people to pass on advice they have heard, but never took the time to find out if it is really true. Since it sounds cool, it must be right.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens]
