"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today praised the United States House of Representatives for its passage early this week of the proposed Disaster Personal Protection Act."
"'We commend the House, and especially the House leadership, for bringing this measure to the floor and passing it with an overwhelming 322 - 99 bipartisan vote,' said John M. Snyder, CCRKBA public affairs director."
"The bill, H.R. 5013, introduced by Rep. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, would prohibit any agency using federal disaster relief funds from seizing firearms from law-abiding citizens in their cars, homes and businesses. The legislation would not prevent confiscating guns from convicted felons ..." ... |

"An Opinion article by Mike Freeman on Monday was quite interesting. On the one hand, he makes a very convincing argument in favor of small arms possession by the "people" of this country. On the other, he bashes the motivations of those persons who direct the agenda of the National Rifle Association."
"As a member of the NRA for an extended period and as one who has read all he could find on the subject, I'm thoroughly convinced the NRA and the officers thereof are completely honest in their crusade to protect the Second Amendment. "Mayor Bloomberg took another step in his crusade against gun violence yesterday, signing four new measures into law, including one that sets up a registry for firearms offenders."
"'These four bills are an important part of the city's comprehensive three-prong approach to combating illegal guns: stronger enforcement, new legislation and innovative litigation,' Bloomberg said. 'It will now be harder and riskier to buy and sell illegal guns in our city, and that's great news for law-abiding citizens.'"

"Quick think fast. What do you do when your life is in danger? If someone else is threatening your life, do you have the right to end theirs? You do now. On July 20, the Self-Defense Act was signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm."
"... In other words, if you kill someone in the act of self defense, you are legally protected."
"For law-abiding citizens, this may seem like a sound piece of legislation. In actuality, however, the act has the potential to promote violence."

A British woman has been ordered by police to take down a sign on her garden gate which read "Our dogs are fed on Jehovah's Witnesses."
Janet Grove, who owns a terrier puppy called Rabbit, insisted the sign was a gentle joke to discourage callers at her front door.
Her late husband put the sign up more than 30 years ago when members of the church called at their house on Christmas Day.
But police were forced to act after receiving a complaint.
"We were informed by a member of the public who found the sign to be distressing, offensive and inappropriate," a police spokesman said. "Officers attended the address and the sign was voluntarily taken down." |

"At a time when frontline Mounties are being wounded and killed while on duty, two officers including one who came under fire himself Thursday said the force is 'outgunned' by the bad guys."

"It is rare for Mounties to speak publicly, but with the rash of gun attacks against them, Ontario-based Mills and Const. Pete Merrifield broke rank in a public call for better firepower. They both said the national force is outmatched by criminals and that its frontline officers need more than one trip a year to the shooting range to hone their skills." ... |
