Despite what people think, SYG law in Florida is not what is being said about it. People are getting their information from biased sources instead of simply reading the law as written. It is also interesting to note that the SYG laws in our country are basic principles dating back to the 1800's and that minorities benefit from it at a higher proportion than others. As the author of the article states, what's "senseless" is to give up public spaces to the control of criminals. I agree that to give quarter to criminals is only to encourage more acts of criminality. Imagine criminals armed with the knowledge that you cannot confront them simply because they left the door open for you to run away. The Old Gunhand |

The National Rifle Association is trying to take out two Colorado legislators who responded to the Aurora and Sandy Hook massacres with tighter gun laws. This morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he would consider backing the two legislators in a showdown that the Times described as "a test of whether politicians, largely Democrats, outside big cities and deep-blue coastal states can survive the political fallout of supporting stricter gun laws." |

For many shooters, the one shot wonder that is the single-barreled hinge break shotgun is their first experience with any sort of gauge. This simple design predates almost everything on the market today and is arguably obsolete. It however is one design that just refuses to go away. |

More people in Colorado than ever before are attempting to legally carry a concealed gun, and by no small margin. It's 87 percent more. And while 2012 saw a sizable increase from 2011 of permit seekers, that figure pales in comparison to this year. From January to June, 31,518 background checks were processed for concealed-carry permits by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, according to bureau data. For the same period last year, there were only 16,886 processed. In addition, more background checks have been processed in the first six months of 2013 than in all of 2011 and only 1,305 fewer than the total for all of 2012. |

One welcome surprise in gun safety occurred this year in Colorado, where the Democratic-led Legislature dared to defy the gun lobby and mandated universal background checks on firearm sales and 15-round limits on ammunition magazines. The ink was barely dry, however, before the National Rifle Association was vindictively pressing for recall votes against two supporters of the stronger law, the State Senate president, John Morse, of Colorado Springs, and State Senator Angela Giron of Pueblo. |

The 95-year-old resident of a Park Forest senior living community who died after a Friday confrontation with police was killed by the bean-bag rounds police fired at him, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy today.
The Cook County medical examiner's office said that the cause of death of John Warna was hemoperitoneum bleeding in the stomach area from blunt force trauma of the abdomen after he was shot with a bean bag gun.
Warna, wielding a 12-inch blade and a cane, was shocked with a Taser and then hit by the bean-bag rounds from police before later dying at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities. |

I had read about this. It is both funny and disturbing. It is important to remember that the news reporter stated that they had confirmed their sources. What happened was that some intern at the agency who investigates air accidents sent out a list of made up names that sounded funny or dirty. They were read on the air without anyone verifying the source. Some thing similar is going on with the aftermath of the Zimmerman trial.
The problem is that with the internet and instant videos and information from people who are on the spot, the traditional news media is in a battle to stay timely. In their rush, they think that being told something is the same as confirming it. |

It is recognized that our LEO have to react to situations quickly without the luxury of time. It is no less true for civilians. Imagine what it would be like to face a prosecutor who is asking why you did not go through that fire exit you did not know was there, or say or do something differently which is obvious on hindsight. That is what happens without SYG laws. The jury was not there so they are being told that you could have done this or that to avoid the confrontation without experiencing the tunnel vision and focus on the attacker that the defendant experienced at the time. It is Monday morning quarterbacking and hard to defend against. |

Perhaps the most boring thing that gun-controllers throw at advocates of the right to bear arms is the assertion, almost guaranteed to rear its doltish head in any conversation about the Second Amendment, that it is easier in the United States to own and operate a gun than it is to own and operate a car. This contention most often takes the form of a rhetorical question. Every state requires its residents to pass a test in order to drive a vehicle, its adherents ask. So why doesnt it require them to take a test before they can own a lethal weapon? |
