Good security move, boomerangs are even more dangerous than Medals of Honor you know, so they both should be confiscated to protect passengers. Damn betchya, and elephants roost in trees at night too.

""Mr. Speaker, what, then, is the answer to the question: 'Is America a Police State?' My answer is: 'Maybe not yet, but it is fast approaching.' The seeds have been sown and many of our basic protections against tyranny have been and are constantly being undermined. The post-9/11 atmosphere here in Congress has provided ample excuse to concentrate on safety at the expense of liberty, failing to recognize that we cannot have one without the other."

There is so much about society that Mike Newdow would like to change.

He does not understand, for example, why the English language allows itself anything so cumbersome and awkward as masculine and feminine pronouns. The Mike Newdow dictionary would replace "he" and "she" with "re," "his" and "hers" with "rees" and "him" and "her" with "erm."

"Police seized 16 guns, the ammunition and more than 80 high-capacity magazines used to feed weapons from Philip Bernstein's house at 69-40 Fresh Meadow Lane last week, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said."

"This arsenal of weapons is really quite unbelievable," Brown said at a news conference in which the seizure was displayed across the full length of a 24-foot-by-6-foot conference table.

Bernstein's attorney, Kevin Campbell, said he is a "sports shooting enthusiast" who is now a victim of "anti-gun hysteria."

MA: Anti-gun Boston Mayor finally coming to his senses?

In response to a recent crossfire shooting of a kid, Boston's notoriously opportunistic anti-gun mayor is finally whistling a bit of truth. Said Mayor Menino:

'I don't have a solution, I won't mislead people.'

That'd be nice -- he sure was misleading people in his attempt to force gun manufacturers out of business. (The city was forced to drop their bogus, irrational lawsuit in March.)

'We as a government can put program after program into place,' Menino said. 'But there has to be some sense of caring about life and a focus from parents on their children.'

Gee -- why didn't we think of that. The only difference in philosophy between gunowners and people of Menino's ilk is that Menino thinks a "law" is going to make a bad person good -- gunowners, on the other hand, will make a bad person lay down on the ground and whimper for mercy while waiting for police to arrive.

Pro-firearms advocates have been in a defensive posture for too long on this issue. Rather than forever reacting to the threats by anti-gun advocates, pro-gun advocates should seek a legislative affirmation of the individual's right to bear arms

This is interesting if for no other reason than to see the X-ray -- especially so when you realize this guy survived and is already back at home.

It probably won't be very easy for him to convince any friends to go spearfishing with him any time soon -- a risky scheme at best. Next time he goes out after the fishies, hopefully... he'll use his head.

This article was written by a new U.S. citizen -- been a citizen for about a year -- named Fareed Zakaria. Keep that in mind...

"Ashcroft has warned against even discussing violations of civil liberties, saying, 'To those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: your tactics only aid terrorists.' "

"But who is the greater help to terrorists today, the American Civil Liberties Union or the National Rifle Association? The FBI is finding out all it can about the 1,200 people rounded up since September 11except whether they have ever bought firearms. Its not that the government doesnt have that information, but the Justice Department will not share it because of an NRA-sponsored law that says that information about people buying gunseven illegal immigrants!can never be shared with anyone. Ashcroft defends this policy. Perhaps someone should remind him that we are at war."

"We're not an anti-government group. We just concerned that our freedoms are going down the toilet," organizer Wayne Hicks of Osage says. "We're concerned that our rights are being ripped away from us by a government no longer constrained by the Constitution."

"We're not a bunch of gun-toting militia anti-government nuts," he said. "We're just having a big Fourth of July party. I am probably fairly well known to the government as the man who is trying to keep everything peaceful."

"His organization, the Fourth Branch Clubs of America, believes that when the administrative, legislative and judicial branches of government won't protect individual rights, a fourth branch - the people - needs to rise up."

"People have brought 517 firearms, 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of explosives, 850 bombs, 1,600 detonators and 172,500 cartridges since the program started 1 1/2 years ago, said police spokesman Vadim Reshetnyak. He said someone even handed over a gun taken off a military aircraft."

"Police have paid 685,500 rubles ($21,420) in exchange for the weapons, the spokesman said."

"Big enough to blow the press away, cracked the mayor, sotto voce, raising a chortle from aides and picked up on some tape recorders."

"In its 2001-2002 term, the U.S. Supreme Court attacked civil rights and liberties, striking
blows to the separation of church and state, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the privacy rights of students and other fundamental rights. The number of close decisions -- often by 5-4
votes -- that were led or joined by Associate Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas points out the grave risk presented by future appointees in the mold of these two right-wing activist justices."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
