Nationally-recognized gun rights leader Alan Gottlieb, who heads two Washington State-based gun rights groups, on Friday filed one of two legal challenges to Initiative 1639, the latest gun control measure backed by a Seattle-based lobbying group.
The other lawsuit was filed almost simultaneously by the National Rifle Association, in Thurston County Superior Court.
Gottlieb is founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, both based in Bellevue. |

Its the anti-gunners worst nightmare, a Supreme Court majority that abides by the Constitution, and accepts more Second Amendment cases; a scenario suggested by a piece in Roll Call regarding the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the vacancy being created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.
The notion even appears to terrify the Los Angeles Times editorial board, which took a dim view of this weeks ruling by a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruling that the Second Amendment protects the right to openly carry a defensive sidearm outside of the home.

Cases of self-defense aren't always simple -- especially in states with a "stand your ground" law. Earlier this month, police say Michael Drejka fatally shot a man who shoved and knocked him to the ground in an argument over a parking space in Florida. Although critics say Drejka's use of deadly force was uncalled for, the Pinellas County sheriff declined to arrest him, citing the state's "stand your ground" law, which gave him immunity. The decision sparked outcry and calls for reform.

Considering much of the recent rhetoric surrounding gun control an issue of contention between most liberals and conservatives some may be surprised to find members of the Washington County Democratic Party hosting their own marksmanship competition.
Founded by party executive committee member and 2016 7th House District candidate Mike Morgan, Safety On! is a gun and shooting club focusing on firearm safety and "responsible ownership." |

In a state that is home to two of the deadliest mass shootings in recent U.S. history, Floridas Democratic and Republican gubernatorial primaries enter their last month with guns emerging as a central issue on both sides. Well-financed Republican Adam Putnam has seen his lead slip away in most polls to President Trump-backed rival Ron DeSantis, amid a cascade of criticism over how, as agriculture commissioner, he mishandled the states concealed weapons licensing program.." |

Until recently, the prevailing opinion about the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is that they generally side with gun control, especially regarding the Peruta v. San Diego decision. As a brief refresher, the court held in an en banc decision that concealed carry was not an absolute Second Amendment right. However, the Ninth Circuit has just handed down a new ruling holding that open carry is a protected Second Amendment right in one of its most recent decisions, namely George Young v. State of Hawaii. You can see it here in its unbridled glory, in PDF format. |

Like so much else in Canada, the debate over guns typically happens more quietly than it does in the United States. But on rare occasions, a tragic moment will come along and propel the issue to the top of the public agenda. When that happens, the country abandons the decibel range of polite discourse and begins to argueloudlyabout gun control. |

In the long hot summer of television, gun control hasnt been a big issue in the news media, which is not acceptable to its rabid cousins in the world of entertainment. For them, guns are the root of all evil, so let the story be told! Take for example, a show called The Bold Type, that airs on Freeform (formerly ABC Family), about young women working at a magazine in New York City called Scarlet (think: Cosmopolitan). The July 18 episode features two roommates and workmates who get into an argument.

Lets face it folks, as the old saying goes, None of us are getting out of this one alive. And it could be logically argued that while in this mortal coil, with every breath and step, we thread the fine line between death and delight. But the ultimate truth is that life is a wonderful experience and there is much that we can do to both enhance and degrade the adventure. Take the shooting sports for example; while many in the media continually insist that guns only represent a threat to society, many more persons -- with both knowledge and real-world experience -- know that this is simply and emphatically not the case.

Australias gun enthusiasts arent particularly enthused about 3D printed plastic guns. Any experienced shooter is likely to say no thanks, I like these five fingers. And two eyes! said Graham Park, president of the Shooters Union, which represents around 200,000 of the country's firearm owners. In shooting circles theyre considered a joke because theyre so bad. No one wants one because most people are terrified theyll blow up in their hand, he said. |

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that firearm-related homicides surged during Barack Obamas last two years in office. According to the CDC, the number of firearm-related homicides was relatively stable during 20102014, then firearm-related homicides sharply increased. PEOPLE WHO are barred from purchasing firearms or want to own a gun that is illegal in the jurisdiction where they live may soon have an easy way to get around the law. All they would need to do is download a computer file and use a 3-D printer to stamp out a gun. No background check would weed out felons, those with mental illness, domestic abusers or possible terrorists. No serial number would allow police to trace a weapon used in a crime. And there would be no problem getting past metal detectors with a gun molded from high-quality plastic.
