On Friday, a group of Gun Owners of America (GOA) industry partners known as the No Compromise Alliance sent a letter to Congress opposing the proposed so-called assault weapons ban (H.R. 1808) and the repeal of Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (H.R. 2814).

The coalition consists of Fort Scott Munitions, Classic Firearms, Rifle Dynamics, Alpha Omega Kydex Holster, T.Rex Arms, Kahr Firearms Group, Wolfpack Armory, Freedom Ordnance MFG, and Foxtrot Mike Products. The letter was sent to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Minority Whip John Thun (R-SD).

A federal judge will extend his temporary restraining order that prevents certain new gun safety regulations in the town of Superior from taking effect, while the parties to the legal challenge prepare to make arguments on recently-issued precedent from the U.S. Supreme Court.

U.S. District Court Judge Raymond P. Moore agreed on July 22 to halt Superior's ban on "assault weapons" for 14 days in response to a lawsuit from pro-gun groups Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and the National Association for Gun Rights.

The Supreme Courts ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen has been widely recognized as a landmark case in the development of the courts Second Amendment jurisprudence, but despite its legal importance, and contrary to the exaggerated reactions of some public officials, the decision itself is commonsensical.

The case began with New Yorks requirement that applicants seeking a permit to carry a concealed handgun outside of their property must have a proper cause for wishing to do so.

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022. Cole voted against the legislation.

H.R. 1808 constitutes the greatest attack on the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners that I have seen during my time in Congress, and I vehemently oppose it, said Cole. More importantly though, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution does not allow Congress to take away that right. As I have said before, I believe that any effort to address gun violence must be deliberative and open and must ensure that constitutional rights are preserved for all Americans."

The 2nd amendment was put in the constitution mostly so that the country would not have to have a standing army. Standing armies in Europe became trouble when heads of state would use them for nefarious reasons, often against citizens.

That is why the 2nd amendment has two clauses. The first clause establishes the need for well regulated militias. These militia were to be under control of the government and would be ready to take up arms against enemies Thus we did not need a standing army.

The House passed legislation Friday to revive a ban on certain semi-automatic guns, the first vote of its kind in years and a direct response to the firearms often used in the crush of mass shootings ripping through communities nationwide.

Once banned in the U.S., the high-powered firearms are now widely blamed as the weapon of choice among young men responsible for many of the most devastating mass shootings. But Congress allowed the restrictions first put in place in 1994 on the manufacture and sales of the weapons to expire a decade later, unable to muster the political support to counter the powerful gun lobby and reinstate the weapons ban.

On Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation that revived a ban on semi-automatic guns. This prompted reactions from Western New York politicians.

Republican Congressman Chris Jacobs (NY-27) voted in favor of the bill. Jacobs announced in May that his views on gun control changed following the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas.

Jacobs' change in views led to many political attacks that he cited as his reason to not run for reelection in New York's newly formed 23rd congressional district.

No criminal charges will be filed against a juvenile who was taken into custody after a man was found dead inside an apartment in Broomfield earlier this week.

...

District Attorney Brian Mason declined to file murder charges in the case. His office determined this was a case of self-defense or "defense of others" and requested that the juvenile be released from custody.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Adams and Broomfield County Coroner's Office.

Tonight, U.S. Representative Ken Buck (CO-04) issued the following statement after voting against final passage of H.R. 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022, which does nothing to make our communities safer and undermines Americans right to bear arms.

Despite our national economy continuing to crack under the weight of Biden-inflation, the Democratic House of Representatives dedicated the last day before August recess to strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights. I will always vote to uphold and protect the Second Amendment.

In defense of AR-15, Second Amendment

A recent letter discussed the dangerous capabilities of the AR-15, dubbed by many a weapon of war designed to maim and kill. The absurdity of this claim is apparent to anyone who has spent time with and owns this platform of rifle. From flintlocks in the 1800s to revolvers in the 1900s and AR-15s in the 2000s, firearms have always been tools; ones that can be used for many things. Much as a hammer can be used to drive nails into wood, an AR-15 can be used for many productive tasks and is not simply a killing machine even though it can be used as such.

House passes assault weapons ban in wake of mass shootings

The House passed a bill Friday that would ban the sale of assault-style weapons and high capacity magazines, for the first time since a similar ban lapsed in 2004.

The 217-213 vote saw seven members cross party lines, but Democrats still overcame objections from Republicans, who argued it infringes on Second Amendment rights. Five Democrats voted against the bill, and two Republicans voted for it.

The evenly divided Senate is unlikely to pass the measure, but Democrats argued Fridays vote was a needed step to counter a wave of mass shootings across the country.

KS: Kansas court: Self-defense doesnt apply when bystander hurt

The December 2017 shooting happened after Betts and other officers responded to a call about domestic violence and a suicide threat at a Wichita home. Once inside, the dog charged at Betts, and he fired twice. His shots missed and hit the floor, and bullet fragments hit the girl above an eye and on a toe, according to the court's decision.

Betts argued he acted in self defense. A judge dismissed the case before trial, and the Kansas Court of Appeals upheld that decision. But Supreme Court Justice Dan Biles, writing for a unanimous state Supreme Court, said Kansas law grants immunity from prosecution for force used specifically against an attacker and doesn't mention bystanders.

The killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012 marked the beginning of a new chapter of the struggle for civil rights in America. A mostly White jury acquitted George Zimmerman of the teens murder, in part because Floridas stand your ground law permits a person to use deadly force in self-defense even if that person could have safely retreated. Nationwide protests after the trial called for stand your ground laws to be repealed and reformed. But instead, stand your ground laws have expanded to 38 states.

In response to the U.S. Supreme Courts decision striking down the states 100-year "may issue" concealed carry law, requiring applicants to demonstrate a subjective special need to obtain a carry permit, Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., signed a new bill into law thats even more subjective and more restrictive.

It requires applicants to prove "good moral character" by releasing their social media accounts, and it turns virtually all of New York into a gun free zone.

Gun Owners of America (GOA) filed a federal lawsuit July 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, naming State Police Superintendent Kevin Bruen as defendant.

The governments primary responsibility is to protect our natural rights, including every citizens right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As the Declaration of Independence states, To secure these rights, governments are instituted among men. Congress is failing to protect the lives of Americans from an epidemic of gun violence that is so commonplace that firearms-related injuries are now the leading cause of death among American children and adolescents. Pause and reflect on that for a moment. More deaths among kids and teens from gunshots than from drugs, disease or automobile accidents. This is a huge national tragedy.

The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a show hearing where firearm industry leaders testified on their efforts to keep lawfully-manufactured products out of the hands of criminals. Democrats on the committee broad-stroked the blame from criminals to firearm manufacturers to push for more gun control.

On several occasions, Democrat members ignored facts and blurred details to scapegoat legal firearm manufacturers and buyers. When corrected by Daniel Defense CEO Marty Daniel about the difference between fully-automatic, strictly-regulated military firearm and the commonly-owned civilian semiautomatic modern sporting rifle (MSR), Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) responded, Okay, were splitting hairs here.

The Supreme Court last month struck down a New York law that effectively prohibited ordinary citizens from carrying handguns in public for self-defense.

As some New Yorkers joined gun control activists in decrying the decision as making them less safe, one young woman explained how, for her, the high courts opinion meant she was one step closer to sleeping soundly for the first time in months.

Laura Adkins, a liberal journalist living in New York City, described how, after a recent breakup, her ex-partners increasingly obsessive and harassing behavior made her fear for her life despite the temporary order of protection she got.

Like many Black women in [the D.C. area] , [Patrice Parker had] viewed guns for most of her life as the root of the violence that had wrecked countless lives in her community.

That changed, paradoxically, after her son was shot to death in a parking lot not far from her home. Exasperated with the police response and in despair over the sheer number of weapons on the streets, Parker decided there was only one way to protect what remained of her family. And that was to pick up a gun herself.

Five House Democrats voted against the bill. Soon after the legislation was passed, American Firearms Association President Christopher Dorr sent supporters an email denouncing Jacobs and Fitzpatrick for putting "a knife into the backs of the people who voted them into office."

"Moments ago, Nancy Pelosi rammed her so-called 'Assault Weapons Ban' through the House, aided by TWO TRAITOR Republicans, Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) and Chris Jacobs (NY)," Dorr wrote in the email obtained by Newsweek. "Had the two TRAITOR Republicans above voted against Pelosi, the bill would have failed. They drove a knife into the backs of the people who voted them into office."
