So why am I concerned about the history of the "V" sign? It's just this. As gunnies, as members of the armed citizenry of the Republic of the united States, we too need a symbol. Something as short, sweet and powerful as the "V". Something that can be painted on the side of a building, or across the face of an anti-gun billboard or re-election sign of a gun grabbing politician. Something powerful. Something easy. Something even a bit scary to collectivists with frayed nerves so as to disturb their beauty sleep. Think of it as freedom gang sign.

A Wabash Valley shooting was justified as self defense.
Last Saturday, police say a fight between Michael Gallagher and Jarrett Nicholson ended when Nicholson was shot and killed.
In a press release sent to News 10 by the Greene County Prosecutor's office during a 911 call, Gallagher said Nicholson entered his residence without permission, threatened to kill him, and then began to beat him. |

Not since the United States Constitution was ratified in 1791 has the country's highest court addressed the issue of whether the founding fathers knew what they meant when they wrote the Second Amendment. On June 26 - in a case called District of Columbia v. Heller - the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms, is an individual right. All gun owners do not have to be police officers or members of the military. It was a rational decision they rendered. |

Letter to Atlanta Journal-Constitution editor:
Mayor Shirley Franklin predicted that cities would pay a heavy price if the Supreme Court declared that there is an individual right to keep and bear arms protected by the Constitution. What Franklin fails to appreciate is that cities such as Washington, D.C., have already paid a heavy price for the mistaken notion that stricter gun control will make a city safer.
D.C. has violent crime rates higher than many Third World countries, in spite of (or because of) its ban on functioning firearms. The crime rates drop dramatically the moment one crosses the Potomac into Virginia, where one can carry a pistol openly while going about one's daily business without even so much as a license. |

I have just finished reading for tenth time an affidavit by Candice Marie Olofson, David Olofson's wife, which describes in detail the despicable, gestapo-like actions of Ms. Jody Keeku, BATFE Special Agent, in the events surrounding the railroading of her husband
You will find a link to that affidavit in the article; please take the time to read it.
We can expect that the sins of Jody Keeku will be visited upon her fellow agents at some point.
And they will curse her bitterly for it.
But what of our sins of omission?
Read the article and think about the answer.

Two United Methodist agencies, disappointed with a U.S. Supreme Court decision on handgun ownership, are urging church members to advocate for legislation that would tighten federal laws on gun control. In a joint statement July 1, the United Methodist Board of Church and Society and the Commission on Religion and Race said they were "deeply disappointed by the U.S. Supreme Court decision to strip local municipalities of the right to enact sensible and necessary gun restriction laws." A week earlier, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 that a Washington, D.C., ban on handgun ownership was unconstitutional. "The Supreme Court's decision stands in direct contrast to the stance of our denomination," the church agencies said. |

Lester Hooper, 35, wrote the summonses - alleging traffic violations in three Westchester towns from Jan. 28 to Feb. 6 - without ever pulling over Derrick Perry, according to the Westchester County DA's Office.

In a sign that federal courts here in New York will defend New York City's restrictive gun regulations, a judge is allowing the city to strip a disabled Vietnam War veteran of his gun license. The decision, handed down this week, is likely the first court ruling to deal with New York's gun-permitting scheme since the Supreme Court declared that the Second Amendment gives citizens an individual right to keep a gun at home for self-defense.
The veteran who lost his gun license, Dominick DiNapoli, said the Supreme Court's decision ought to require that he gets back his gun permit.
"Who needs a gun more than someone like me, who is disabled and can't physically defend his home?" Mr. DiNapoli said in an interview.

For many years, the ACLU claimed that the 2nd Amendment didn't protect an individual right--only a collective right.
So what is the ACLU's position now?
"The ACLU interprets the Second Amendment as a collective right. Therefore, we disagree with the Supreme Courts decision in D.C. v. Heller. "
And in response, there are 130 comments on their blog about it. Not a single one defends the ACLU's position... |

Last year, New York police officers were seen dancing in the streets just before arresting four men in a city nightclub on charges of selling $100 worth of cocaine. It took six months and the men's life savings, but their names were finally cleared when prosecutors took the unusual step of announcing in court that the men had committed no crime.
That's because club surveillance video shows that the undercover cops had no contact with the accused men in the two hours they were in the club.
Now, club owner Eduardo Espinoza says the police are retaliating against him.

Saying the case was simply too weak to take to trial, prosecutors on Thursday dropped all charges against Kevin Welsh — who fatally shot a Longview man in September after their wives got into a fight.
The case was difficult from the start, and recent DNA and other forensic evidence meant it was unlikely Welsh would be convicted, said Cowlitz County Prosecuting Attorney Sue Baur. Instead, the evidence actually bolstered Welsh’s self defense claims, she said.
Welsh, 45, had been released on bail pending his trial and now is free of any restrictions or requirements, |

West, a county public defender, argued that Irigoyen tried to stay out of the dispute -- which he said grew from the victims' dislike of the brothers' choice of jukebox music from the Tijuana, Mexico, area.
But when Irigoyen went outside to check on the situation, he saw that one of the men was slashing at his brother's face with a knife.
Irigoyen stopped firing once both men went down, West said. Without addressing his client's attempt to re-enter the country, West said Irigoyen fled because he feared retribution. |

The “debate” about guns has clogged up the dialogue about a safe society, and I’m wondering what we can do about that.
Last week’s Supreme Court ruling, which overturned Washington, D.C.’s gun ban and reinterpreted the tortuously worded Second Amendment — “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” — as referring to individual rather than collective armed self-defense, has stoked the “debate,” of course. |

A lot can be learned by paging through photographer Kyle Cassidy's Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes. Gun owners are married or single. Some have children. Many have pets, usually cats.
They have clean, almost sparse homes, or messy ones with unmade beds. The men are just as likely to wear camouflage - three - as they are to put on skirts or kilts - four. A few chose suits, one donned a Renaissance Faire costume, one wore his chef's whites.
In short, gun owners can pretty much look like anyone.
It's inaccurate to say the gun issue is hot right now, as it always seems to be. The difference is only in the intensity, and the fires are burning now. |

In the past few years the effort to bring a reasonable concealed carry law into Wisconsin have all been thwarted by our anti-gun Gov. Doyle. Wisconsin is one of only two states to have no provision for lawful concealed carry.
As I look back on it, Gov. Doyle should be congratulated in keeping yet more unreasonable regulations out of our already bloated legal system; especially those regulations or laws designed to infringe upon certain rights of the citizens. As a pro-gun advocate I recognize that Wisconsin has no statute that prevents open carry by residents of the state. |

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has been receiving a lot of criticism around here lately, much of it deserved and some of it from me. I did not like the way he bent over backward in D.C. v. Heller to reassure gun control supporters that existing federal restrictions on firearms are not in danger. His position that the Second Amendment covers only weapons "in common use...for lawful purposes," as opposed to the "unusual and dangerous weapons" that can be banned without violating the Constitutution, is a circular argument that seems designed to uphold the status quo. Neither the federal machine gun ban nor any other form of national gun control was before the Court, so Scalia should have left such issues for another day. |

Over a 48-hour period this Memorial Day weekend, 21 people were shot in New York City, six fatally. A gunman opened fire on a crowd in a shopping district in Queens and wounded five people. A 15-year-old was killed while leaving a party in Manhattan. A 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were wounded in Harlem. This spring frenzy of gun violence has not been limited to New York. Other cities have experienced a similar rash of shootings. In one weekend in June, 14 people were shot to death in Los Angeles County. The police attributed the violence to gang activity. |

Ursula Smith’s Bersa 380 semi-automatic pistol isn’t for target practice anymore.
After her two Charlotte homes were broken into three times in the last 18 months, Smith changed her mind-set to protection. The pistol, which she bought as part of an outdoors training course, is now a self-defense weapon. She also has permits to buy two more weapons.
“Those of us who are honest citizens need to be able to protect ourselves against those who aren’t she said.
The Supreme Court agrees, striking down a District of Columbia ban on all firearms that had been in effect since the 1970s. As a result, gun restrictions across the country may be open for challenges under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. |

The Supreme Court recently ruled that Americans have the individual right to own guns for self-defense and hunting purposes. This is the first major ruling on gun rights in United States history. There was a 5-4 vote ruling in favor of this. It ended the handgun ban in the District of Columbia.
There was a 32-year-old ban on handguns in D.C. Justice Antonin Scalia says the court’s majority opinion is that the Constitution does not allow for “the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home.” |
