Dictator George W Bush is now trying to sneak another infringement on our liberties past us. He used his sycophant Alberto Gonzales to draft the legislation and provide for another of his toady’s Democrat Senator Lautenberg to introduce it in the Senate under the guise we need it to stop terrorist threats. The legislation is presented as a law that will permit the Attorney General to increase public safety by permitting the Attorney General to deny the transfer of a firearm or the issuance of firearms or explosives licenses to a known or suspected dangerous terrorist. What a crock... |

The Supreme Court has made it clear that a person is entitled to the benefit of "self-defence" only if it was proved that the killing was committed in apprehension of his own life being in danger.
In other words, the accused should prove that the deceased was responsible for provoking the murder.
"It (self-defence) should not be allowed to be pleaded or availed as a pretext for a vindictive, aggressive or retributive purpose of offence,"a bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and D.K. Jain said, while dismissing the appeals filed by two brothers convicted to life imprisonment for murdering their creditor. |

That's all because of guns in the wrong hands, said Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Chief Michael Berkow. |

Saying he was "not a hired gun for the defence," a blood spatter expert testified Thursday that an RCMP constable could not have shot Ian Bush in the way he has described.
Const. Paul Koester earlier told the inquest he shot Bush in self defence while the two were struggling in the interview room of an RCMP detachment in Houston, B.C.
He described Bush choking him from behind on a couch when he drew his gun and fatally shot Bush in the back of the head on Oct. 29, 2005.
Joe Slemko, who analyzes blood patterns, said that would have been impossible and used a graphic photo of Bush's body to explain his theory. |

"I like your commercials and all that, but the big issue around here is the Second Amendment and gun rights,' said one man who leapt to his feet as soon as Richardson finished his stump speech. "I'd like to know how you feel about that."
Richardson said he supports the Second Amendment but believes instant background checks are necessary to prevent two key groups of people from getting guns - criminals and the mentally ill. |

The Firearms Control Act will have to be amended to allow 18-year-olds, who are now regarded as adults, to possess firearms, Freedom Front Plus spokesperson Pieter Groenewald has said. He said on Wednesday that the Act had to be amended after sections of the Children's Act came into effect on July 1, lowering the age of majority from 21 to 18. |

Downtown resident Eva Castorena said she heard the story from an elderly woman who said she saw the shooting on her street.
"There's fear and distrust in the community," she said. "One of the residents could be mistaken for an undocumented (immigrant) and shot. It's not safe for us."
About 300 families from the El Paso area and in Southern New Mexico have signed a petition circulated by the Border Network asking for a thorough investigation and a review of Border Patrol lethal force protocols, Border Network officials said. The group is also organizing a protest scheduled July 28, officials said. |

The suspected shooter, Matthew Eperjesi, 29, of Somerset Township, originally was charged with homicide. Those charges were withdrawn after District Attorney Jerry Spangler said prosecutors could not contradict Eperjesi’s claims he acted in self defense.
Eperjesi maintained he was defending himself and his younger brother when Zimmerman, Terry Mostoller, then 32, of Berlin, and another man tried to barge into their apartment early that morning.
...
The three told the Eperjesis they came for a party. Police later determined the party in question was at a nearby home. |

Ten years ago this past March, Wilma Bragg was shot to death in her home near Stella when she surprised Alis Ben Johns, a wanted murderer who had broken into her home to steal supplies he needed to stay on the run during what turned into the largest manhunt in Missouri history.
On Tuesday, Bragg's daughter, Vickie Guinn, and her granddaughters, stood by as Gov. Matt Blunt signed into law the Castle Doctrine, a bill which supporters say clarifies when a person can use deadly force to defend that person's home or vehicle.
Vickie Guinn said the law might not have been of much help to her mother the way things turned out, but it could have spared her some grief and legal problems had she been able to break free and defend herself. |

In what supporters called an early Independence Day celebration, Gov. Matt Blunt signed a bill Tuesday at Arena Park that will give people the right to stand their ground, even use deadly force, if attacked.
Though the legislation, commonly referred to as the "Castle Doctrine," officially removes the requirement of someone to retreat or step back when defending their "castle," or residence, against a threat, a Missouri Supreme Court decision has given them the same right for more than a century.

Police in Johnson County say they need a place to shoot their guns. But the proposed site has some nearby residents pulling the trigger on a protest. The land is in rural Johnson County near Kalona. The home owners are not going down without a fight. People living around the site say they do not want gun shots in their back yards. They moved into the county to get away from the noise.
People have different reasons for living out in the country. But most agree they like the peace and quiet. They like hearing nothing, not shooting. But Iowa City police and the Johnson County sheriff might buy land close to homes for a shooting range. |

The truth is, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away after the phone call. No matter how diligent and motivated they are, police are virtually always in a reactive mode. It is not their fault. They have no legal obligation to protect an individual, and even if so, there will never be enough of them.
The Second Amendment is not about guns, as the NRA claims. It is about the inalienable right of the individual to effective self-defense. This is why the DC handgun ban was overturned and why 80 percent of the states are shall-issue in terms of concealed carry licenses. |

The Criminal Code allows for a person to use a firearm to shoot a criminal threatening his life with a knife, but the federal government fails to issue authorizations to carry firearms for defence to anybody except well-connected politicians, making it impossible to exercise one's full right to self defence. This lack of logic in firearms legislation must be fixed fast or violent crime will continue to be exercised by armed criminals against unarmed citizens. |

Women of all ages will gather this summer for the Ladies Action Pistol Camp, a four-day, three-night how-to camp on handguns. So far, the age range of participants is 25 to 65, according to Sheila Brey, of Parish, one of the organizers of the camp at the Pathfinder Fish & Game Club in Volney. The camp will run Aug. 23 to 26. "Many of them have never held a firearm before," Brey said in a news release. "Our goal is to teach them that shooting is a safe, enjoyable and rewarding sport for women of all ages." |
