"Anti-gun groups are quick to link Militia to state governments, but, as usual, they mislead the electorate. When the Supreme Court and lower courts grapple with the second amendment as a concept of state militia, they err. Still, many wins for the individual right were made possible by a greater adherence to Original Intent than ideas that the Document is a 'living document', that a militia must be a state entity, or that a militia is a hate group." ... |

... "... We have the voting booth to democratize power, but all violence centralizes power. Whether it is the weapons of an army, the paving stones wielded by rioters or the suicide bomber violence centralizes power. ..."
"Only by democratizing violence, through such measures as the second amendment, is there any popular defense against such centralization of violence. But as states grow more complex, they centralize power and monopolize violence, and then become more vulnerable to violence. Populist violence is a more effective lever against a centralized state that has isolated itself from the people. Once a political system becomes isolated, it also becomes tyrannical, and vulnerable. ..." ... |

"In an article in The New York Times on Sunday, Michael Luo examined how states across the country were increasingly allowing people who lost their firearm rights because of mental illness to petition to have those rights restored."
"While several states have had such restoration laws for some time, more than 20 have passed similar measures since 2008. The increase has been traced to a law passed by Congress after the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech that was actually meant to make it harder for people with mental illness to get guns."

"RF recently reviewed the Smith & Wesson Governor. Unfortunately, our Fearless Leader lives in a part of the world where shooting inanimate objects requires a court order and direct supervision by a Plinking Safety Officer. RF suspected that the Governor had a hidden forte: shooting stuff. So he sent Smiths Black Beauty to Arkansas for my 'dining and dancing pleasure.' The star of the show: the watermelon PDXed into red misty oblivion. I think watermelons are more spectacular than cantaloupes ... because they contain so much water. Water doesnt compress very well, and has to go somewhere when a stack of metal disks and pellets slam into it at high velocity. But wait! Theres more . . ." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. Ronald Reagan |
