"A growing number of Americans are getting permission to carry firearms in publicand under their clothesa development that has sparked concern among some law-enforcement authorities."
"Applications for 'concealed-carry' permits are soaring in many states, some of which recently eased permit requirements. The numbers are driven in part by concern that renewed gun-control efforts soon could constrain access to weapons, along with heightened interest in self-defense in the wake of mass killings in Newtown, Conn., and Aurora, Colo." ... |

"There are times when Americans must take a stand against growing threats of abuse, property destruction and public safety, and according to NBCs TODAY show Friday morning, this may be one of those times when citizens with guns can step forward and make a difference."
"It may be time for an open season on pigs, and this column has already received correspondence from one reader that if he sees one, he will shoot it, but not eat it." ... |

"Ive heard stories of an Army instructor who likes to read the riot act to his soldiers. 'Any soldier engaging in close quarters combat (CQC) deserves to die.' His thinking: if the soldier and his cohorts had allowed the enemy to get close enough to go hands-on, the good guys had all failed at their jobs. Miserably. Im not exactly sure why I told you that; civilians are highly likely to 'engage' a bad guy at bad breath distance. I mean, what perp worth his salt wouldnt attempt to surprise his victim? So what do you do? Well, you could learn the techniques above. Nothing wrong with thatother than the fact that there isnt a range I know where you can actually practice shooting from your nipple. Meanwhile . . ." ... |

"As if a two shot .45/9mm was not a great defensive pistol (not), Heizer plans to release a 1 shot .410/.45lc "shotgun" this fall. Just what I always wanted, a one shot pocket shotgun so if I miss or do not stop my attacker I am screwed. Perhaps we will soon see a no shot pistol. It just looks like a gun but does not fire. It can be used to scare away bad guys but will be thin and easy to carry. I am not in favor of gun manufacturers that cater to those who value ease of carry over all practical self defense situations. Sure one or two rounds can do the job but so could an ice pick and yet, no one carries one of those for self defense. ..." ... |

"Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who survived a January 2011 attack by a gunman that left 6 people dead and 13 others wounded (including the Arizona Democrat), has been in the news this week as she and her husband Mark Kelly take their 'Americans for Responsible Solutions' campaign around the nation."
"Videos of Giffords and Kelly at firing ranges have gotten wide play on news outlets. In this one, you can see Giffords herself firing a handgun. Both she and her husband are gun owners (and were before she was shot) and say they continue to enjoy shooting." ... |

"'Moms Demand Action has teamed up with Michael Bloombergs Mayors Against Illegal Guns Action Fund, placing an ad on the homepage of Thursdays USA Today website, calling for signatures to a petition to 'declare your independence from gun violence,' politico.com reports. 'More than 85,000 people have signed the petition as of Thursday.' Bullshit. MDA was created by a media maven for media mavens, despite the groups indisputable inability to physically assemble a group larger than a quilting bee. If I were a blogger, Id demand that Moms Demand Action submit proof of that number. Oh wait. Anyway, theres another non-group out there using similar tactics (i.e. getting children to wave the bloody shirt) . . ." ... |

"'Massachusetts lawmakers are still grappling with dozens of gun-related bills more than six months after a shooting rampage left 20 first-graders and six educators dead in neighboring Connecticut,' pressherald.com reports. To quote Ellen Foley, STOP RIGHT THERE! Before we go any further, do lawmakers 'grapple' with legislation? Im thinking that 'sleazing' would be more apt. Secondly, what bill can prevent another Sandy Hook-style homicidal rampage? The State Troopers, above, understand the importance of firepower in that regard. And as weve pointed out before, post-Sandy Hook mental health measures can have the exact opposite effect ... Hey, you want gun control? The Bay States got gun control. To wit:" ... |

"'A high-powered rifle lost in the ATFs Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico.' Oh those LA Times wags. Using words like 'suggesting' and 'now' and 'failed gun-tracking operation.' In fact, arming drug cartels was the whole point of Operation Fast and Furious. ... Lest we forget, the ATF let 1,961 U.S. gun store guns walk. And hey, what about this F&F-related massacre . . ." ... |

"Cahill's lawsuit doesn't target Thom, but rather the Springdale police department, its since-retired chief, and another officer who was allegedly present but didn't intervene. The six-page lawsuit contends the department knew Thom had 'violent propensities' based on other allegations, including an incident lawsuit in 2011 that resulted in a $98,500 settlement paid to another person who claimed they were wrongly assaulted by Thom." ... |

"You don't often hear about lawsuits based on the Third Amendment, the one that says "no soldier shall in time of peace be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war but in a manner to be prescribed by law." That usually overlooked provision is cited in a federal lawsuit recently filed by Anthony Mitchell and his parents, Michael and Linda Mitchellan oddity for which we can thank the Henderson, Nevada, police department. The Mitchells, who live in separate houses near each other in the Las Vegas suburb, were forcibly evicted from their homes on July 10, 2011, by police officers responding to a domestic violence report involving one of their neighbors. Here is how it all started, according to the complaint:" ... |
