"A 2004 search of illegal firearms in defendant Michael A. Crooker's Feeding Hills studio apartment turned up no weapons, but did produce evidence of what seemed a passion for guns."
"According to testimony in U.S. District Court yesterday, local and federal law enforcement officials found two books, entitled 'Guerrilla Warfare Weapons: The Modern Underground Fighter's Armoury' and 'The World Guide to Gun Parts,' plus a 52-page typed document titled 'Legal guns for prohibited persons' during a search of Crooker's former residence."
"Crooker is on trial for attempting to mail a sound muffler, which prosecutors have labeled a silencer, accompanied by an air rifle to an Ohio man two years ago. ..." |

"But heres the rub: overall violence and crime are not on the rise. The number of shooting victims during the past 10 weeks is twice as high as it was during the same period last year, yet the total number of aggravated assaults is actually lower, as are the number of rapes, robberies, burglaries, larcenies, and vehicle thefts. In fact, other than a relatively small increase in aggravated assaults over the past three years, all major crime categories have either remained stable or declined, while the number of gunfire victims has tripled." |

"Here are some facts about what the U.N. is doing in New York:"
"The leaders of the U.N. gun ban scheme are longtime anti-Second Amendment activists Rebecca Peters and shadowy billionaire George Soros. Do some research on them. I will guarantee that will change your mind about what the U.N. has planned for the Second Amendment."
"Of the countries that sent delegates to the conference, many are decidedly undemocratic. It should not be surprising that ruthless dictators would be willing to support binding international legislation." |

"WARRNAMBOOL'S Garry Sheppard is among the district's gun enthusiasts who will be affected by changes to the Victorian Firearms Act."
"A collector for the past 40 years, Mr Sheppard has had to outlay $250 for a new licence because his collection includes two antique handguns."
"'The firearms are already registered in my name on my collector's licence, but they're making you get a separate licence for pre-1900 antique handguns,' he said. 'It's just another revenue-raiser.'" |

"...Furthermore, it is not the guns that kill; it is the thugs that pull the trigger who kill and who present a problem for law-abiding citizens who desire to keep and bear arms. However, some of our so-called leaders have failed to address the public safety problem and youth violence, so they are working in overdrive to outright ban all handguns." "I am opposed to any more gun restriction laws on law-abiding citizens who own guns legally. Elected officials who try to ban all firearms are not addressing the problem, nor are they bringing solutions to real problems of the city of Boston. The thugs and the criminals will continue to get guns illegally by way of stealing them or purchasing them on the black market." |

"During testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee at a hearing held in Philadelphia, Bloomberg said: 'Although they broke the law by illegally crossing our borders ... our city's economy would be a shell of itself had they not, and it would collapse if they were deported. The same holds true for the nation.'"
"That comment drew the ire of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), which accused the mayor of being "a blooming idiot" for preferring to see the country overrun by illegal aliens than give a break to law-abiding American gun owners." |

"There's a notion that interest in the sport of hunting is on a decline in Michigan, especially among our young people."
"Hunting license sales are dropping by about 1-2 percent every year, according to the state Department of Natural Resources."
"And that's bad for Michigan because the state is losing revenue from those sales, money that typically funnels into wildlife management programs." |

"The public was invited to clear out old guns and other weapons from attics, garages, basements and cupboards between June 1 and 30, and by the end of the period Nanaimo RCMP had collected some 200 weapons." ...
"Const. Shawn Parker, who coordinated the amnesty program, said often family members inherit old guns, then don't know what to do with them until a gun amnesty comes along."
"Mostly they were guns people have had since childhood. Maybe they used them on the farm to get rid of rodents, or for pest control." |

"Academic studies of safe-storage and gun-lock laws have also overwhelmingly found no evidence that they reduce the total number of suicides -- although a few studies have found some small reductions in suicides committed with guns. There are simply too many ways to commit suicide. If people are intent on killing themselves, they will still do it, with or without a gun."
"Yet, gun locks also pose real risks. Besides the costs that may deter poor people from buying guns, locked guns are also not as readily accessible for defensive gun uses. Since potentially armed victims deter criminals, storing a gun locked and unloaded may therefore increase crime."
"Exacerbating this problem are serious reliability issues." |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
China reportedly has launched a new crackdown on illegal guns across the country.
The China Daily newspaper reported police nationwide have told the public to turn in their guns, including airguns and replica firearms. It said those who fail to comply could get up to two years in prison.
In Beijing, police seized 100 guns last month and detained 98 people. Even though most of the guns were replicas, a police official said such guns can cause "unnecessary nervousness" for the public.
Police in a province in southern China seized nearly 6,700 guns in April and May, nearly all of them replicas. The crackdown is aimed at enforcing a 1998 law tightening Chinese gun control. |

"This morning's vicious New York City subway attack by a madman armed with cordless electric power saws is just more proof that Mayor Michael Bloomberg's on-going campaign against guns is misguided and myopic, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."
"One man was brutally slashed across the chest, and other subway riders were terrorized by the unidentified assailant, who grabbed the saws off a workbench."
"How many times must we remind Bloomberg that it's the criminal, stupid, not the weapon he uses..." |

"The sad evidence is most Americans dont even know what rights are. We speak of the Second Amendment granting a right to keep and bear arms unaware of the Founders understanding of rights as 'unalienable' and 'endowed by our Creator,' that is, inherent in the condition of being human. We have seemingly forgotten that governments are created by men, with powers delegated from the people. Rights are not privileges that if granted could be revoked dispensed from on high."
"The shameful truth is, most of our countrymen and a good number of gun owners are ignorant of basic rights that in another era would have provoked rebellion should any have been haughty enough to 'approach that jewel.'" |

"A new law that kicks in next week gives Kentuckians the right to use deadly force without fear of being prosecuted or sued if an intruder breaks into their home or occupied vehicle."
"That measure, dubbed the 'castle doctrine' by its sponsors, is one of two bills passed during the 2006 regular session of the General Assembly that attempts to expand gun rights in Kentucky."
"The other exempts concealed carry permits from the state open records law, bars law enforcement officers from seizing weapons during disasters and allows employees to keep firearms in their vehicles on the premises of their employers. It was sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Belcher, D-Owingsville." |

"Doylemason's best friend, Darren Kretchmar, 21, and an 18- year-old friend were shot and killed in Fernandez Park in Pinole, California on July 30, 2005 by a young man with a felony record who could not legally obtain a gun. The illegal gun was never recovered. He was shot, news reports said, because the friend he was with was wearing a red shirt. A gang member mistook him for a member of a rival gang."
"He left behind a battered, nonworking 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit that Matt Doylemason and his friends swapped a new motor into the evening before the funeral. At the funeral, friends wrote loving messages to Darren all over the car."
"I plan on driving Darren's Rabbit on a cross-country road trip called the 'End The Violence Rally... I want the nation to see this car and what it represents. I will also be carrying large poster boards for people to leave messages. I will also have a box for donations. At the end of the trip I will make the donation to the Million Mom March Chapters of the Brady Campaign to help end violence in our streets and parks."
------- KABA Note: So to avenge the death of a friend who was killed by a felon who wasn't legally allowed to own firearms anyway, he will raise money for organizations that work to prevent those who are allowed to own firearms legally from exercising their Constitutional rights. Does that make any sense? |

"Indiana is the first state in the nation to offer residents lifetime handgun permits under a new law that went into effect this month -- a move hailed by Second Amendment supporters and blasted by gun-control advocates."
"The law, which also increases the cost of obtaining or renewing a four-year license, went on the books Saturday. The change is expected to bring in more money to the state and the Indiana State Police."

"As the current state legislative session passes, it's comforting to learn that our state legislators were busy protecting us from the essentially nonexistent 'assault weapon' threat and, as usual, sponsored basketfuls of restrictive bills aimed at ending firearm ownership in New York."
"Much of this self-righteous activity is motivated by genuine concern for re-election, not public safety, but with an electorate increasingly dominated by supportive urban voters, the day when New Yorkers will be stripped of any right to possess a firearm of any type is not only foreseeable, it is well nigh upon us. Residents of New York City are, for all practical purposes, already there."
"This year saw the revival of the perennial crop of self-serving proposals. There were bills to raise license fees to untenable levels, impose stealth registration in the form of storage requirements for all firearms, impose license renewal, add licensing requirements for shotguns and rifles whether defined as 'assault weapons' or not, make ammunition too costly for most to acquire, and simply outlaw, without compensation, such firearms as the .50 BMG, whether they've ever been used to commit a crime or not. It's the 'death by a thousand cuts' strategy promoted by several radical anti-firearm advocacy groups." |
