NC: Defending your rights and celebrating our nation

Earlier this year, President Joe Bidens ATF established a new pistol brace ban which turned millions of combat wounded veterans and law-abiding citizens into felons overnight. These braces were first designed to help wounded veterans continue to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Following the Biden administrations latest regulation, I took to the House floor to sponsor the legislation to block it and am proud my bill passed the House with bipartisan support.

The ATFs brace rule illustrates the dangers of an unchecked federal agency that is willing to go around Congress and the millions of constituents we represent.

Talking about common sense gun control measures in the immediate aftermath of a mass shooting is a shameful politicization of a tragedy; the only respectful and appropriate response is to wait at least a week, after the funerals have been conducted. And since we average more than one mass shooting per day in America, there will never be an appropriate time to talk about gun control.

The founders clearly anticipated AR-15s, bump stocks, and high capacity magazines when drafting the Second Amendment, but they were just kidding around when they included that prefatory clause about well-regulated militias.

Twenty-two-year-old Edgar Gonzalez was fatally shot in the parking lot at 1871 South 5th St. on June 4, in what prosecutors are now calling an act of self-defense.

A second victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at an area hospital, authorities said then.

Now, the DA's Office says the gunfight followed an "altercation and confrontation" between two groups of people that began at the nearby Taco Bell parking lot on South 4th Street.

Villarreal was acquitted by a jury last month of both second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Raymond Delval in August 2019 in Oxnard, but still faced sentencing Thursday for three associated firearm convictions.

Worley sentenced him to a total of four years and four months in prison for those crimes: possession of the illegal short-barreled rifle he used to kill Delval, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. But he does not have to serve a day in prison because the sentence is less than the credits awarded for the nearly four years he spent in local jail.

Pullan decided that if she couldnt beat Americas gun culture, she would join it. So last year, she took a free class with the Liberal Gun Clubs Wisconsin chapter. And late last year, she purchased an AR-15-style rifle made in Wisconsin by Bravo Company MFG. She isnt the only left-leaning person to arm themselves.

According to the Pew Research Center, 40% of Americans live in a home with a gun. Despite the stereotype of gun owners being white conservative men, gun owners are a diverse group: 20% of Democrats own guns, 22% of women, 24% of Black people, 18% of Hispanics and 10% of Asians, according to Pew.

onservatives are promoting a false narrative that the suspect charged in a mass shooting in Philadelphia is transgenderafter similar claims about a school shooting in Nashville.

Kimbrady Carriker, 40, was arraigned on Wednesday morning on five counts of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons counts of possession without a license and carrying firearms in public, prosecutors said. He is accused of killing a man in a house and then gunning down four others on the streets on Monday, before surrendering to police.

Even before Carriker's name was released by the authorities, however, some Republican lawmakers were posting on social media labeling the suspect as transgender.

Two days after the shooting in Philadelphia that resulted in the deaths of five people, city officials have filed lawsuits against two ghost gun parts suppliers.

The only link was subjective: The shooter used a firearm made up of polymer parts that didnt have registration numbers. There was no claim that those parts came from the suppliers. There was no claim that the suppliers violated any laws. The move was political from the start.

Americas multi-year spike in homicides may finally be receding.

At the midway point of 2023, the murder rate is down roughly 11 percent in 100 major U.S. cities. Thats the conclusion of a new report from Jeff Asher, a widely-cited crime analyst and AH Datalytics co-founder. He found the overall murder rate is still about 12 percent above pre-pandemic levels. But the numbers are currently on track to result in approximately 2,500 fewer murders nationally than the post-pandemic peak in 2021.

At first glance, the Biofire Smart Gun is different from other firearms. The large handgun looks part Halo, part Cyberpunk in design.

Its an appropriate look since the gun is made with new technology ripped straight from science fiction. Its unlocked biometrically, meaning it can only be activated with an authorized users fingerprint or face. That, in turn, means only authorized users can shoot it.

Kai Kloepfer is the CEO of the Broomfield-based company Biofire. He said making a gun like this was impossible until very recently.

The text message that flashed across Jasmine Barksdales cellphone a few weeks ago felt familiar.

One of the women in Barksdale's Rochester-area gun club was struggling to disassemble her new firearm. The woman's set of long, acrylic nails kept snagging in the slide, nearly ripping off every time she tried to break down the weapon. She needed advice.

Barksdale, 32, knew the frustration all too well. Its what led her to take firearm safety into her own hands ― literally ― by becoming a certified instructor through the National Rifle Association last fall.

The U.S. Supreme Court, which last year expanded gun rights in a landmark ruling, is set to return to the issue in a major case testing whether a law that keeps firearms away from people under domestic-violence restraining orders violates the Constitution.

It is one of the biggest cases that the court, with its 6-3 conservative majority, has agreed to hear during its next term, which begins in October. The justices wrapped up their latest nine-month term last week with important rulings rejecting affirmative action in collegiate admissions, undermining LGBT rights and invalidating President Joe Biden's student debt relief after a year earlier overturning abortion rights.

Ive joined 23 AGs asking the 9th Circuit to affirm a lower courts ruling tossing out a California law that would make handgun ownership nearly impossible, Griffin announced today in a tweet. The Second Amendment still applieseven in California.

Ken Paxton is Americas most conservative and most successful Attorney General. He has won landmark cases in the Supreme Court to stop [President] Joe Bidens lawlessness and willful disregard of our constitution. But his success in defending religious liberty, the right to life, the Second Amendment, and individual freedoms have made him a target of Democrats and the establishment Republicans who enable them. That is why Attorney General Paxton was impeached by the kangaroo court in the Texas House, Buzbee said a statement.

Lets say we as a nation have a horrible enemy. Lets say we want and need to cause them great harm, but without being blamed.

How could we do that? Bombs? Na. Missiles? Nope. Too obvious. So what could we do? Simple. Get them to pass a Second Amendment just like ours.

Soon, the enemy nation will experience a surge in mass murders everywhere, childhood school shootings, thousands of gun homicides, and a massive number of gun suicides. Eventually, just like America, more and more people will die from guns with every passing year. The enemy wont feel safe mall shopping, in church, at a movie, concert, or sending their children to school. Imagine how horrible it will make their lives.

Which brings us back to bullets. Why is it easier to buy bullets than a prescription at CVS? In much of the country, you can walk into a store and buy a box of ammunition, no questions asked, writes Jennifer Mascia in The Trace. Federal law is next to nonexistent, and few states fill the gap.

Turns out, Chris Rock is a policy genius. Bullets, after all, enjoy no Second Amendment protection. In a 2014 ruling, the 9th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals found that The Second Amendment protects arms, weapons, and firearms; it does not explicitly protect ammunition.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens]
