... "According to the legend, [William] Tell hestitated not at all in fitting an arrow to his crossbow and letting fly, cleaving the apple without harming his child."

"Tell's feat, and the composure with which he carried it off, were sufficient to impress even the porcine, self-enraptured Gessler."

"As Tell collected his son and turned to leave, a second arrow fell from his coat. Noticing this, a puzzled Gessler asked Tell why he'd bothered to grab a second arrow, since the first shot would either have succeeded or brought about the death of his son."

"Fixing the despot with an unflinching stare, Tell replied: 'That second arrow was for you, if the first had wounded my boy.'" ...

"After a claim by the [ATF] that 90% of Mexican drug dealers' military weapons (machine guns, hand grenades and missiles) come from American gun stores was exposed as a lie several months ago, it's back ..."

"A June 21 CBS '60 Minutes' report ... was clearly coordinated to coincide with release of the GAO report and a similar one by 'activist' Josh Sugarmann."

"You are likely to soon hear and read that the GAO report ... confirms what Mexico's attorney general ... told Cooper: 'Two thousand two hundred grenades, missile and rocket launchers!'" ...

"The facts don't matter. Reinstatement of the federal 'assault weapon' ban that lapsed in 2004 matters, and is nothing short of a fetish among powerful supporters who will tell almost any untruth to achieve it." ...

"'Today's amicus brief reflects an effort by more than 30 attorneys general to defend law-abiding Americans' constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms,' Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said in a statement."

"Abbott and the state attorneys general want the nation's highest court to take up a case from Chicago, in which a resident of a high-crime neighborhood challenged the city's ordinance prohibiting the possession of unregistered firearms." ...

"The most recent issue of the National Shooting Sports Foundation newsletter, Bullet Points, observes that the faux gun group known as American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), has endorsed the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court Justice."

"As former NRA President Sandy Froman recently pointed out, Sotomayor has a narrow view of the Second Amendment that contradicts the Court's landmark decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. Froman says 'Sotomayor's view on the Second Amendment clearly reflects an extreme anti-gun philosophy.'"

"While AHSA sees nothing wrong with the SCOTUS nominee, Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and John Cornyn (R-TX), two stalwart defenders of firearms rights, disagree." ...

"In a bold move today, several of the nation's top gun rights leaders acting as individual American citizens, sent a blistering letter to members of the U.S. Senate opposing the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor as the next associate justice on the United States Supreme Court."

"It comes on the heels of a more temperate letter from the NRAs chief lobbyist Chris Cox, who only threatens opposition should Judge Sotomayor appear 'hostile or evasive' on Second Amendment questions during upcoming confirmation hearings. The letters were sent independently of one another." ...

"Several weeks ago, I suggested that one question be asked Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor whether she knows that police have no duty to protect individuals from the criminal acts of others."

"It is amazing how 90 million gun owners know more about this concept and its significance than officials seem to know. Judges pretty much know it by their rulings of same; Police know it. Some attorneys know, not all, and many officials are not aware of it. Does Sotomayor understand this fact that police have no mandate to protect you? The concept has a tremendous impact perhaps in how she is overturned so often; she's missing something." ...

"Last week we told you how NRA's Past President Sandy Froman was calling on all NRA members to vigorously oppose the nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. She did this in response to the 'wait and see' approach that the NRA's upper management has taken in regard to the Sotomayor nomination an approach that may well allow her to wiggle through and be confirmed."

"The [NRA] sent a letter to Sessions and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Leahy, D-Vt., stating they have 'very serious concerns' about Sotomayor's nomination."

"Two-thirds of the nation's attorneys general have filed an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to grant certiorari in the case of NRA v. Chicago and hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This bi-partisan group of 33 attorneys general, along with the Attorney General of California in a separate filing, agrees with the NRA's position that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms in the home for self-defense, disagreeing with the decision recently issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit." ...

"2) I've always wondered where we draw the line on bearing arms. Again, I am in favor of gun ownership. But, I wonder if rocket propelled grenades should also be protected by the 'right to bear arms.' Mortars? 'Cop-killer bullets?' I wonder if we could ever agree on a definition of 'arms.'" ...

Submitter's Note: Well Ken I hate to call someone I don't even know an idiot, but, you're an idiot. RPG's - yes. Mortars - yes. "Cop killer bullets" - fairy tale. ' Arms' - Portable weapons like firearms, and field artillery. These were the 'arms' that the British were sent to sieze from Lexington and Concord.

"It is a back country wanderer's worst nightmare; arriving at a remote trailhead to find yourself accosted by two growling, snarling off-leash dogs, and then their owner, who threatens to kill you for having taken action to deter the approaching canines."

"That's what retired Arizona teacher Harold Fish told investigators in May 2004 at the end of a dayhike in the Coconino National Forest that put him in a deadly confrontation with a man named Grant Kuenzli. Fish said he yelled a warning to Kuenzli to call off the dogsa warning apparently ignoredthen drew his 10mm Kimber semiautomatic pistol and fired one round into the ground when the dogs were about seven feet from him. The dogs split up, one to each side of Fish." ...

Reports of abuse by those in authority are daily occurrences, and we, as citizen overseers of our employees, need to be alert and need to take action when they come to our attention."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

New developments in the felonious assault case against two Newburgh Heights cops.

Judge Brendan Sheehan did a judicial acquittal for Newburgh Heights Officers Joseph Szelenyi and Bobby Hoover.

Szelenyi and Hoover were accused of holding a Cleveland woman captive for hours at their police station and torturing her with a taser, an electroshock weapon that temporarily incapacitates its target.

The victim took the stand yesterday and was apparently terrible so the defense attorneys asked the case to be thrown out.

The officers will, however, be back in court next Tuesday to stand trial on other charges from a completely separate victim.

"... police and state figures show that so far this year, pistol applications on Long Island are up 50 percent over last year."
