A town official opened fire, injuring a suspected bank robber in Hatboro, Montgomery County.

The alleged thief had just left the bank with a bag of money when a dye pack inside the bag exploded.

Borough councilman George Forgeng, who was standing nearby, witnessed the pack go off and gave chase.

Forgeng, who was carrying a licensed firearm, finally confronted the suspect a few blocks away on the 200 block of South Warminster Road.

Steele explains, "There was a number of requests for the suspect to get on the ground. He did not comply with that. He was shot. He then got on the ground, and police arrived shortly afterwards."

The gun used by a Mexican illegal immigrant when he allegedly shot and killed a 32-year-old woman at a San Francisco pier belonged to a federal agent, a source confirmed to Fox News Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear how Francisco Sanchez, 45, would have obtained the weapon. However, the San Francisco Chronicle reported sources told the paper the gun had been stolen during a car burglary in June.

This past 4th of July weekend in Chicago was particularly bloody.

In approximately eight hours, gun violence took the lives of eight people, including a 7-year-old named Amari Brown, and wounded 55 others. This is just another in a long list of examples, including Newtown, and Charleston, that shows why we need drastic change in our gun policies.

Gun rights advocates seem astute at blaming everything from lack of mental healthcare to pervasive poverty for gun violence. Some even justify gun ownership for self-defense. Strangely, it appears like it is everything, but the gun.

After the Fourth of July, a Coweta County woman woke up the following morning to find a distressing surprise her windshield had been struck by a bullet some time during the night.

It was not as if someone shot at her vehicle directly, though. Carol Long believes the bullet fell from the sky. The bullet struck her windshield close to the edge on the drivers side, and although it did not pierce the glass, it left a large dent and a spiderweb of cracks.

I think people ought to know better than to shoot guns in the air, Long said. Its got to come down somewhere.

Think the great state of Texas is the best state for concealed carry of firearms in the United States? You might want to reconsider.

Guns & Ammo magazine evaluated firearms laws in all fifty states as well as the District of Columbia, then ranked the states from the most restrictive to least.

Surprising are the rankings of states that are surrounding Texas, with Oklahoma ranked at number 28, Colorado 33rd, Arkansas 37th, and New Mexico at number 40.

States topping Texas on the list include Virginia, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire.

FL: Lies and misinformation about semi-automatic weapons

The June 16 editorial, Why assault rifles sales are booming, was full of misinformation, myths, and lies. An assault rifle is a machine gun which, if you hold the trigger down, keeps firing automatically until the clip runs out of ammunition. Semi-automatic rifles require one to pull the trigger, wait for the gun to fire, and then pull the trigger again.

One progressive principle is lie long enough and people will begin to believe the lie. A semi-automatic rifle is not an assault weapon, but liberal and progressive writers having been calling semi-automatics assault weapons since 1968, a year Congress passed new gun control legislation.

The death penalty is primarily about us: If we don't have the right to kill except in immediate self-defense, how can we delegate such authority to the state, which already possesses the powers of arrest, judgment, and incarceration (for life, if truly necessary)? When we enable the state to kill in our names, we've exchanged justice for vengeance.

The 1st District Court of Appeal next Tuesday is scheduled to take up a case filed by the group Florida Carry Inc., which says people have a legal right to possess firearms in their homes, including in university housing. An Alachua County circuit judge last year sided with the University of Florida in rejecting the group's arguments in the case.

In court briefs, Florida Carry pointed to a state law that seeks to ensure people can have firearms in their homes and to the U.S. Constitution's 2nd Amendment. It said the state law about guns in homes supersedes another law that generally bars guns at schools and colleges.

Brown is a much sought-after speaker on Black masculinity, social justice, street violence and the relationship of Black masculinity to street violence. The man I talked to was not the angry Black man some would suspect from his #WeWillShootBack Twitter profile. Instead, he calls himself a student of Stokely Carmichael and Malcolm X and cites a number of historical references from slave revolts to homesteaders surviving the Jim Crow South, that support the notion that for African Americans there has always been the right to self-defense.

An NRA News investigative report by Ginny Simone captured the raw feelings of many gun owners at the time. Two thousand Australians gathered outside Parliament, chanting We want justice! Collector Raymond Carn said, It was 40 years of collecting I felt sick. I had to hand them in, because if I didnt I was going to jail. A retired chief inspector of police summed up the matter thusly: Its become very, very obvious that the expenditure of half a billion dollars has done absolutely nothing to reduce crime.

Maine will allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons without a permit, a practice called "constitutional carry" by Second Amendment advocates, under a bill signed into law on Wednesday by Republican Governor Paul LePage.

The measure will make Maine the fifth state to pass a law legalizing the carrying of a handgun, either openly or concealed, without the requirement of a government permit.

Maine joins Alaska, Arizona, Wyoming and Kansas in voting to allow the practice, according to National Rifle Association spokesman Lars Dalseide. Vermont has never required a permit. Arkansas and Montana also allow more limited forms of constitutional carry.

I was talking to a friend last week, a benefactor-level life member of the NRA. Compared to him, Im somewhat of a piker.

I mentioned the blizzard of emails I receive, including some from new groups and individuals seeking recognition or donations for their support of the Second Amendment.

I told him of some methods I use to separate the posers from the true Second Amendment supporters.

Have you shared these with your readers? he asked.

My apologies, folks. I havent.

For the last couple weeks, I guess Ive had my head up my brass.

Here are some red flags I look for when evaluating a new group:

However, some open carry activists said they would rather have their gun than their favorite Whataburger meal. "I eat there three or four days a week. I eat breakfast there quite a bit. Now I am going to have to find somewhere else to eat because if they are not going to support guns, I can't support them."

Although Whataburger is asking customers to not openly carry guns inside, it will continue to allow concealed carry.

Gun owners can legally open carry in January, at least in the businesses that allow it.

With Democratic Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) and Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Clybrun called on Congress to expand Brady background checks and vote on the bill Thompson and Peter King (R-N.Y.) introduced earlier this year.

The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act would require background checks for all gun sales to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and people who are mentally ill.

If the Thompson-King bill were law, Clybrun said he has no way of knowing whether it would have prevented the Charleston shooter from purchasing a weapon.

Burgess told The Seattle Times he expects the city would be sued if one or both of his proposals become law, because the state prohibits municipalities from regulating firearms.

Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation, says state law makes the proposed Seattle gun violence tax "dead on arrival."

"They're wrong, and they know it," Gottlieb said. "They're just wearing their anti-gun philosophy on their sleeves."

He cited a lawsuit brought by his organization and other parties that in 2010 forced Seattle to scrap a rule banning guns in parks.

Gov. Maggie Hassan put the brakes this week on a bill that would have eliminated the licensing requirement to carry a concealed weapon.

Senate Bill 116, which passed both the State House and Senate this legislative session, was vetoed by Hassan. Currently, those who want to concealed carry must apply through their town usually through the police department to obtain a permit for a small fee. SB 116 would have eliminated the requirement to obtain a license to carry a concealed pistol or revolver.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There is no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Ayn Rand in her must-read novel, Atlas Shrugged
