Weve seen a call to eliminate no knock raids, and further calls to eliminate or modify qualified immunity for police officers. That may be a good start, but it doesnt go far enough. It is time we held government employees accountable for what they do, and for what they fail to do.
We shouldnt have to live unarmed, unprepared, and in fear due to a bureaucrats delay as we try to buy a gun. |

The NC House upheld the veto of H652 - Second Amendment Protection Act - which would have allowed, most importantly, carry in churches that had attached schools. Currently, they are classified as education property and firearms are forbidden. It only applied to non-public schools.
The bill had passed in late June with a veto-proof majority in both houses of the NC General Assembly. However, six House Democrats switched their prior Aye votes and voted against the bill when it came up for an over-ride. The veto was upheld by a vote of 66-48. It needed 69 affirmative votes to over-ride. |

In a June 29 ruling the Colorado Supreme Court threw out the conviction of a woman who stabbed a man in the neck during an altercation and ordered a new trial due to prosecutorial misconduct, as well as reaffirmed Colorados no duty to retreat rule, which, as Justice Hood wrote in the state high courts decision, permits non-aggressors to stand their ground when acting in self-defense.
Sheila Monroe was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and five habitual criminal charges and sentenced to 98 years in prison after she was tried for stabbing James Faulkenberry on the #16 Colfax Avenue RTD bus in Denver in October, 2011. |

Around 9:45 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a report of a possible armed robbery with shots fired. Deputies found a man on the ground outside the business with a gunshot wound to the chest, and despite lifesaving efforts, he died at the scene, officials said. |

Virginia gun sales soared to historic levels in June, the second record spike in three months, in a tumultuous year marked by the long-term uncertainty of COVID-19, the economic turmoil it brought, protests over racial injustices and activists demands to defund the police.
Estimated firearm sales based on mandatory criminal background checks on buyers have smashed monthly records this year first in March with 80,228 transactions, and again in June with 81,204 transactions, according to newly released figures from the Virginia Firearms Transaction Center, which electronically conducts the checks on state retail gun purchases. |

If you support the Second Amendment, oppose mob anarchy and reject the monumental madness gripping America, then you stand with Steven Baca.
If you have been outraged by the persecution and prosecution of brave patriots across the country defending their homes, their families, our downtowns, our national heritage and history -- like the armed St. Louis couple, or the armed pregnant Michigan mom, or the armed citizens in the Fishtown suburb of Philadelphia, Boise, Idaho, and Provo, Utah, facing down the saboteurs of civil order, then you stand with Steven Baca.

Last week, this column addressed the expectation of revolution and the exhilaration of freedom that pervaded the 13 colonies during the summer of 1776. This summer in America, we are approaching the end of a civilized and free society as we have known it.
The freedom to walk outside without worrying for your life and the reliance that constitutional freedoms are guarantees that the government will honor have dissipated. The effects are anarchy in the streets and a loss of liberty for everyone.
The root cause of both is the failure of government. |

Anderson County is now a Second Amendment sanctuary, with a newly-approved county ordinance expressing support for gun rights.
The County Council approved the measure 5-1 Tuesday, the final required vote after several months of earlier approvals and delayed meetings due to coronavirus changes.
It appears to be the first such ordinance in the state. Other counties, including Pickens, have approved resolutions expressing support of the Second Amendment but unlike a resolution, an ordinance approved by a county or municipality has the force of law in the county or municipality. |

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomos policy that gun retailers are generally not essential businesses and could be ordered temporarily closed to help stop the spread of COVID-19 was upheld in a federal court ruling on Wednesday.
The ruling by U.S. District Senior Judge Lawrence E. Kahn dismissed a lawsuit filed by a gun distributor alleging that Cuomo's closure order violated several aspects of the U.S. Constitution, particularly the Second Amendment bestowing the right to bear arms. |

In order to prove that a crime was committed by the driver, the prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the driver did not act out of necessity or in self-defense, or defense of others, when he acted. Based upon a thorough review of the video evidence in this case and interviews with the parties involved, no charges can be filed. This decision is based upon a number of factors relating to self-defense and necessity. Specifically, the driver of the vehicle relayed he did in fact fear for his safety and the safety of his passengers, and it appears the driver fled the threat without inflicting serious injury to anyone. Upon exiting the area, he immediately responded to the police station to report the incident. |

If someone illegally trespasses on your property you have every right to protect yourself and your family from any threat those trespassing may pose to you. Self-defense is one of the most basic of human rights.
Thankfully, we are afforded that human right under the Second Amendment.
Since the tragic death of George Floyd in late May we have watched on a daily basis lawless acts such as burning of private and public buildings, rioting, looting of stores, destruction of historical statues and attacks inflicting injury and even death on law enforcement officials. |

The height of the summer is usually a quieter time for gun retailers. Trends over the past two decades show that gun purchases rise in the lead-up to Christmas and through winter, and subside in the summer months. But 2020, once again, has defied normality.
June 2020 marks a new all-time record for the number of initiated background checks for firearm sales, with 3.9 million checksa figure 71% higher than that of June 2019, and 103% more than in June 2018. Of the top 10 weeks with the most background checks ever requested since the FBI established the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), in 1998, seven are now from 2020, including all four weeks of June. |
