Attorneys for a state open carry advocacy group claims that Clio schools do not have the legal authority to ban firearms from its buildings, and the district has turned to "hoplophobia" to support its gun ban.
Herman filed the lawsuit March 5 in Genesee County Circuit Court against the Clio Area School District, claiming he was denied access to Edgerton Elementary multiple times while attempting to pick up his daughter because he was open-carrying a pistol.
State law prevents people from carrying concealed firearms on school property. However, the law allows individuals with concealed pistol licenses to openly carry their firearms in schools. Herman is a CPL holder.

A Miami woman was justified in fatally shooting an unarmed man during a brawl sparked by on-stage rap taunts at a Kendall strip club, a judge ruled on Friday.
The ruling means Kimberly Matthews, 32, is free and clear of a second-degree murder charge for the April 2014 killing of Terrance Henderson outside The Office strip club.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Rodolfo Ruiz ruled that Matthews, cornered against a wall and believing one of several men attacking her brother was reaching for a gun, had no choice.
Her repeated efforts to put an end to the brawl were to no avail, leading Matthews to believe that discharging her firearm was the only way to prevent death or great bodily harm, Ruiz wrote in a 15-page order released Friday. |

The Second Amendment a well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
The purpose of the Second Amendment is often missing from discussion or was never learned. The right to self defense is a natural law existing from inception of humanity, well before the Constitution and Bill of Rights. When the founders codified the Second Amendment, they did not bestow this right; they memorialized the fact that free people have the unalienable right to defend themselves, their family, friends and property from all threats, including the threat of a tyrannical government. |

A local gun store in Funkstown, Antietam Firearms, brought in so much revenue, the business required a bigger building that holds more inventory and better keeps up with sales.
Last year, the gun store doubled their sales. The store's co-owner, Parker Bandy, said that's a huge accomplishment for a gun shop.
"We were crowded in the old place. We had about 800 sq. ft., and we were falling all over each other," Bandy said. "We wanted to get a larger facility, but we wanted to get the right facility."
Known as Funkhouse, Antietam Firearms' new facility is the oldest building in Funkstown, which was built in 1769. After many repairs, the new location is open for business at 35 W. Baltimore Street. |

Since when was killing an animal such a big deal? A big game hunter now receives death threats and his business is about to be closed down? Insanity. I feel bad for this guy who happened to kill an animal with a human name, not because he killed the lion, but because wackos want him dead and are crucifying him in the media and social media. Why? Whats the big deal? Who cares?! There are more important things to worry about. Theres no need to make such a huge deal over something so miniscule. |

When an emergency suddenly arises, its very likely the only gear you'll have immediate access to will be those items already on your person. The situation may allow time to lay hands on preparedness items stored in your home, workplace or vehicle. But in many cases, especially when out and about, what you've got is all you'll get. The equipment tucked away in pockets, purses or sports bags, is commonly referred to as an EDC, or Every Day Carry set. |

The tragic shooting on July 16 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, illustrates the continuing threat to (Department of Defense) personnel in the U.S. homeland posed by homegrown violent extremists, he wrote, asking for a consolidated set of plans to review by August. 21.
That directive says military personnel shall be appropriately armed and have the inherent right to self-defense.
The defense secretary said now is the time for the four branches to develop plans for the option of arming personnel, particularly 7,000 recruiting and ROTC stations that have no security and rely on local police. Few Americans would expect posting online about car engines, fertilizer, or general engineering principles to land them in prison. But if the aspiring censors at the State Department get their way, such innocent discussion would be prohibited as exports of military technology.
The Obama administration announced last month that it intends to require anyone discussing broad categories of technical data to ask for government permission before posting the information online. Ostensibly it is an effort to keep weapons out of the hands of foreign militaries under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). But technical data is defined so broadly as to outlaw much of the Internet. |

In 2013, the Los Angeles City Council proposed an ordinance declaring magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition (so-called large-capacity magazines) a public nuisance subject to confiscation and destruction.
Though not directly prohibiting their possession, the initial proposals ultimate objective was to remove currently legal magazines from the hands of countless Los Angeles gun owners. Emboldened by recent moves to flatly ban the possession of such magazines in San Francisco and Sunnyvale, however, Los Angeles City Attorney presented an amended ordinance in June 2014, banning large-capacity magazines within city limits and criminalizing the transportation of such magazines through the city. |

Does the right to bear arms apply to emoji arms? It's actually a somewhat serious question; activist nonprofit New Yorkers Against Gun Violence aims (excuse the pun) to disarm the iPhone by pressuring Apple's CEO to remove the gun icon from its emoji catalog.
"The iPhone is ubiquitous. [Guns are] on the iPhone as an option," the executive director of NYAGV, Leah Barrett, told Fast Company. "We thought this was a way to bring attention to the issue [of gun violence]." |

Starting in September, a bill will protect holders of concealed handgun licenses from being arrested if they have handgun in their bags going through security, as long as they immediately leave the area after screening.
Were just glad to see it going into effect so we can bring common sense back to our laws, much like some of the other states in the United States that have this same action, said State Rep. Drew Muenster, R-Gainesville, an author of the bill. |

THE WEAPONS OF Afghanistans long decades of war can be seen almost everywhere, from the burned-out hulks of Soviet tanks to the Kalashnikov assault rifles slung over policemens shoulders and helicopter gunships roaring overhead.
It should be no surprise then that young children play police and Taliban, chasing each other around with toy guns and weaponry designed to mimic the real thing. And like the real war, there have been casualties.
At least 184 people, nearly all children, suffered eye injuries over the recent Eid al-Fitr holiday from toy weapons that fire BB pellets and rubber shot, health officials said. In response, authorities have banned toy guns. The order read: |

A judge has ordered that a man's gun collection seized last year by police must be returned to him, but Lincoln ordinances won't let him have them in the city.
Gun rights proponents say the case highlights the need for a state law ensuring consistent regulations statewide so cities can't enact stricter gun laws than the state. Supporters of gun control and city officials contend the ordinances ensure local leaders can protect citizens by keeping the weapons out of the hands of irresponsible owners. |

An attorney for the fiance of the mystery man whose body was discovered in an SUV on Palisades drive says the 6.5 tons of ammunition police found in the mans home will likely be destroyed.
The attorney, Harland Braun, made that statement known while relaying the interest gun dealers have shown in purchasing some of the approximately 1,500 weapons kept in a Pacific Palisades home by the mystery man.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the majority of the guns are in mint condition, as the dead man appears to have been a collector rather than a shooter. But Braun said the guns will be tied up for the foreseeable future as the LAPD is still running background checks on the weapons.

This summers spate of mass shootings has raised questions about why people like John Houser and Dylann Roof were able to buy a gun. Both of the men passed the federal background check system (NICS), despite records of severe mental health issues and illegal drug use, respectively.
To better understand how NICS works, its helpful to look at why gun purchases do get denied. Since its inception, the system has put a stop to over 1.2 million transactions at federally licensed firearms dealers (FFL). |

But elections are not the only thing that contribute to class numbers. |

A state attorney generals opinion about Tennessees new guns-in-parks law says city and county governments and third-party contractors who run such events as concerts and festivals in public parks cannot ban handgun-carry permit holders from going armed into those events.
That interpretation poses serious safety challenges to communities across (Tennessee), state Senate Democratic Leader Lee Harris of Memphis, who requested the opinion, said Friday in a telephone conference call. |
