AK: Shooting from your hind legs aka offhand shooting isnt easy, but it can be useful

Now you need to shoot from your hind legs, I said to Christine.

Looking at me as if I had three heads, a look Ive grown accustomed to, if not fond of, she said, I dont have hind legs, I have arms and legs, Im not a Labrador.

Its a phrase I imagine I picked up from some old shooter years ago who had told me I needed to learn to shoot from my hind legs. It worked for me, and the fact it causes Christine to fret forces me to use it every chance I get when in her company.

I expect there are fair number of folks who have heard it as well. But for those who are wondering what the hell Im talking about, it references shooting while standing with no form of support other than your arms (or front legs) and the hind legs.

Smart Guns And Mandatory Storage: Two Bad Policy Ideas Cut From The Same Tattered Cloth

Whenever a tragedy strikes that involves a firearm, no matter how statistically rare the event may actually be, you can count on anti-gun extremists to try to exploit it. The responses from those opposed to the Second Amendment upon hearing that a fatality resulted when a firearm was used by a criminal, or accessed by someone who should not have access, tend to sound fairly similar. If a ban isnt the response selected from the handful of ideas gun control advocates have been promoting for decades, then added restrictions on law-abiding gun owners is the policy du jour.

In the wake of the mass shooting at a Virginia Beach municipal building that claimed 12 lives in May, the worst in the Commonwealth since the Virginia Tech massacre, Governor Ralph Northam called a special session of the General Assembly to address the scourge of gun violence.

In the weeks following, my colleagues and I coordinated with the Northam administration and gun safety advocates to introduce a robust, evidence-based package of legislation to reduce senseless tragedies.

Julian Castro, though, is a little tougher to nail down. You have public statements, but mayors, especially in states with pre-emption, like Texas, often leave little more than those statements and policy proposals. What has been locatable, though, points to a candidate who gives lip service to the Second Amendment.

Lip service, though, is all law-abiding citizens who seek to exercise their Second Amendment rights would get. Heres the scoop. In 2012, Castro and his brother were interviewed by ABC News in the wake of the Sandy Hook mass shooting.

As a follow-up to the insulting, aggressive, and ineffectual attacks on free speech and self-defense that were her response to the March 15 murders of 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand, NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has taken a great leap forward in the annals of 21st Century state tyranny.

She has proposed a statute that will designate the right to keep and bear arms as a government-provided privilege.

Gilroy shooting is yet another indictment of U.S. gun laws

But what is known stands as yet another indictment of the country's broken gun laws. Security was tight at the festival, with the presence of armed officers and the public subject to bag searches and metal detector wands. The gunman apparently gained entry by cutting through a perimeter fence and, using an assault-style weapon, sprayed gunfire from side to side, seemingly indiscriminately. Police said they shot and killed him within one minute. Let that sink in - one minute and three people dead, others wounded, many terrified.

Ed.: If anything, it is an indictment of victim disarmament and 'gun-free' zones, once again.

House Majority Floor Leader Jon Nichols, R-Oklahoma City, is a bit more outspoken.

In the recent state legislative session, three bills were passed that if they become law, will restrict the Second Amendment rights of New Hampshire residents.

House Bill 109 would impose universal background checks on the sale of firearms. Under present law, all commercial sales of firearms (ones done through a licensed dealer) require a background check.

Florida State Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried said she doesnt want to appeal a judges ruling which says local officials can't be fined or removed from office for supporting gun safety laws.

However, Governor Ron DeSantis and State Attorney are appealing that ruling, claiming it violates the state constitution.

The 15-page ruling is from a Leon County Circuit judge who ruled that city or county officials can't be punished for passing their own gun laws.

Imagine being careless enough and cruel enough to allow someone to punch such holes in the world deliberately, repeatedly, in the name of a lie. The lie is that we have no choice in this matter. The lie is that any effort, however common-sense, to restrict firearms or lower the capacity of magazines, is part of a vicious scheme to strip you of your freedoms.

The purpose of this column is to explain what has recently transpired at NRA, and to refute the false narratives being spread about the Association. Responsible board members have remained silent until now for legal reasons, but I believe what follows should be said.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well-regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right. [Nunn vs. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243, at 251 (1846)]
