"A Thai woman killed herself by jumping into a pit of more than 100 crocodiles, shocking crowds of onlookers at a Bangkok reptile farm."

[Betcha won't see that one on Animal Planet.]

"The woman, 40, climbed a two-meter high fence and jumped into a concrete enclosure at the Famut Prakarn Crocodile Farm on the outskirts of the Thai capital."

"A crocodile dragged the woman into a pond and several animals swarmed over and tore her body apart. "

One question for Sarah Brady...

Now, just how does gun control prevent suicide?

Malaysia: Stricter checks on gun-permit holders - 80,000 asked to "justify their need to carry arms"

"More than 80,000 people have been asked to justify their need to carry arms, following recent high-profile shooting cases"

KUALA LUMPUR - "More than 80,000 firearm owners were made to undergo more stringent checks to determine their need for a gun during a nationwide licensing renewal exercise last month."

"The move came in the wake of several high-profile shooting cases involving licensed gun owners over minor disputes that had prompted calls for stricter gun control laws, the Malay Mail reported yesterday."

"During last month's licensing renewal exercise, gun owners, especially those who carried revolvers and pistols for personal protection, were asked to justify their need for a gun."

"Those who had failed to do so would have their firearm licences and carry-and-use permits revoked, said the newspaper."

"The authorities were also more strict with gun owners above the age of 65, as well as with new applicants."

"New applicants were required to prove that they needed firearms for personal protection."

"Kayne Robinson of Des Moines vows to continue Charlton Heston's legacy of aggressively campaigning for pro-gun political candidates as he assumes leadership of the National Rifle Association."

"Robinson, the former Des Moines assistant police chief who has served as the NRA's first vice president since 1998, said he expects to be elected president in April 2003 when Heston's term expires and the organization meets to choose a successor."

"NRA officials also expect Robinson to assume the top spot."

" 'I expect that to be the natural line of succession,' said executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre."

"Robinson, however, said he cannot compete with the big-screen persona and convincing oratory Heston brought to the organization with 4 million members and a $200 million budget."

"Robinson, 59, has long been considered Heston's successor and was originally set to be elected president in 2001, but the two agreed Heston should run again because of what Robinson called Heston's 'star power'."

MA: Women line up in droves to ask for permission to carry mace after latest assaults

"After another sexual assault on a woman, more than 150 people from several Boston neighborhoods packed the Precinct 14 police station in Brighton yesterday seeking permits to carry pepper spray and mace."

'Women are defenseless. I am petrified when I am out alone,' Joan Bumila of West Roxbury said. 'It's about time something is being done.'

"A steady flow of frightened and outraged applicants passed through the doors of the Brighton police station yesterday. Because of the large turnout, many were forced to stand and fill out firearm identification cards required to carry pepper spray and mace. Others formed a line that stretched around two hallways for picture IDs and fingerprints."

KABA NOTE: A horde of women standing in line to ask a bunch of men for permission to protect themselves ought to alert the National Organization of Women that something isn't quite right.

'The city is going in the wrong direction,' said one local permission-requesting subject. 'Every citizen has to protect themselves. That time has come for me.'

Of those who are turned down, many will disobey the law after realizing that the State isn't their daddy anymore -- to protect themselves where government fails to do so.

UK: Muggings Are Six Times More Likely In London Than New York City

"Over the past several years, crime has risen in Great Britain. Today, the chances of a person being mugged are six times greater in London than in New York City."

"In her new book, 'Guns and Violence: The English Experience,' Joyce Lee Malcolm explains Britain's crime epidemic. Malcolm argues that two major changes in British law created the current crime prone environment: the criminalization of self-defense and the increasing restriction on handguns, culminating in the 1997 ban of handgun ownership."

"In 1997, after the Dublane Massacre, Britain outlawed all handguns. The penalty is 10 years in prison. However, this has not decreased gun crime, but encouraged it:"
During the two years following the 1997 handgun ban, the use of handguns in crime rose 40 percent.
During seven months of 2001, armed robberies in London rose 53 percent.
Moreover, the British government forbids citizens from carrying ANY article that might be used for self-defense. This has led to bizarre scenarios:
In 1994, the police arrested a homeowner for using an imitation gun to detain two burglars who had broken into a home.
A British Petroleum executive used an ornamental sword blade to defend himself against attack and was later convicted of carrying an offensive weapon.
Thank goodness America's founding fathers killed as many redcoats as they did; our level of degenration would be much worse than it already is if the gene pool hadn't been so thoroughly cleansed.

Now let's compare the chances of being mugged in New York City against the chances of being mugged in a major city where people can carry a firearm for self-defense without the threat of being thrown in jail by some oath-breaking, sub-Constitutional public "servant".

"A Hadleigh father, who didn't want to be named, spotted primary school children firing ball bearing guns at passers-by."

"Police chiefs have launched a major investigation into soaring levels of gun crimes after Home Office figures showed a 40 per cent increase in firearms offences since 1997."

"The Association of Chief Police Officers has set up a new working group to look into the problem."

"There is particular concern about the rise in so-called gangland shootings and drive-by attacks. A 21-year-old man was shot at point-blank range last month, outside the celebrity haunt Browns nightclub in Great Queen Street in London's West End. Police suspected it was a gangland killing. It was by no means an isolated incident."

"Acpo is expected to make recommendations to the Government later this year, which could include calls for tougher gun laws or the expansion of police initiatives already used by the Metropolitan Police to a national level."

"The latest crime statistics showed a marked increase in the numbers of crimes involving handguns, from 2,648 in 1997 to 4,019 in 2000/1, despite the ban on these weapons that followed the Dunblane massacre." [emphasis added]

"We are finding out what the picture is nationally and will make recommendations to the Home Office once the research is complete."

"In old western movies, the sheriff would stand before the townsfolk and announce the crime. Then, having everybody's ear, he'd call on these same folks to form a posse to bring the varmints to justice."

"He'd give them guns and maybe even a badge and, oh yes, a rope and they'd all ride off in a cloud of dust."

"The merits of a posse were debatable then; they remain debatable now, particularly with what amounts to a new type of posse being proposed by the government a posse of spies."

"While lawmakers, pilots and the National Rifle Association continue their campaign to arm pilots with guns, United Airlines has placed its faith in a different weapon --- the Advanced Taser M26."

' 'Following Sept. 11, we considered everything from firearms to chemical sprays to collapsible batons . . . and we found that the taser ultimately represented the best overall weapon solution,' said Chris Brathwaite, spokesman for the airline."

"United has spent $1 million on 1,300 of the nonlethal weapons, which shoot darts that incapacitate people. The airline has also trained its force of 9,000 pilots to use the guns, which it plans to put in every cockpit, pending government approval."

"Alex Harris pushed his 18-month-old son in a stroller between aisles of tables displaying handguns, rifles and other weaponry at a gun show inside Regency Mall."

"Last month's accidental shooting of a 13-year-old boy at an Atlanta gun show won't keep him away."

"His sentiment was expressed by many patrons attending the Saturday morning show."

" 'It (the incident) shouldn't keep people from coming out,' said Cesar Aponte, who recently moved to Augusta from the Bronx borough of New York."

"On July 15, Stephen 'Bray' King of Prattville, Ala., was shot in the head at a vendor's counter during the Eastman Gun Show at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Gwinnett County. The boy, who was with his father, died a day later from a single bullet from a .38-caliber revolver that struck his right eye and lodged in his brain."

" 'That was a tragic incident,' said Leslie Branson of North Augusta. 'But more children are killed in unattended backyard swimming pools and while riding bikes,' said the father of two young children."

"New rules which would put hundreds of pistols back in the hands of marksmen are being considered just six years after the tragedy in which 16 schoolchildren and their teacher were murdered by gunman Thomas Hamilton."

"The highly controversial move follows a one-off relaxation of the ban - which outlaws handguns in Scotland, England and Wales - to allow small-calibre pistol shooters to take part in the recent Commonwealth Games in Manchester."

"A National Park Service ranger at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument was killed in a shootout with suspected smugglers Friday afternoon, said deputy Nicole Feldt of the Pima County Sheriff's Department."

"At least one other man, believed to be a Mexican citizen, was also shot and killed and another was in custody, said Edward 'Bud' Tuffly, president of the union of Border Patrol agents in Southern Arizona."

"The ranger's identity was being withheld Friday pending family notification."

"Mexican officials said the shooting is linked to a quadruple murder that occurred in Mexico on Thursday."

"Thursday night, federal police arrested a 19-year-old who said he had participated in the contract murder of four people, said Miguel Francisco Lopez Castro, regional head of the Sonoran Attorney General's Office."

"Reports of the shooting's exact location varied, but Feldt said it took place near Puerto Blanco Loop Drive, a dirt road that runs through the national monument west of Arizona 85."

"He was helping the Border Patrol and got shot for it," Tuffly said. "They help us out a lot when they can, but that's not part of his job description, interdicting smugglers down by the port of entry. But if we need backup, they'll help us out. It's real unfortunate."

"Because life has become so automated and easy, the American adventure lust burns more brightly than it ever has. People are plunging into so-called extreme sports to kindle that base urge even as the imperatives of family mount and the number of remote controls multiply. To many, the thrill is sparked in the mountains or woods. I choose the ocean and spearfishing because there is risk, a rewarding meal waiting below the surface and an adventure that I will be able to capture for several more decades."

"Friends of Donald W. Matthews, a 61-year-old former Steelworker who quoted the U.S. Constitution like a preacher thumbing a worn Bible, say he was suspicious of government."

"But nobody knows why he chose a routine traffic stop Friday night to make his final stand, fatally shooting a Massillon police officer in the back before he was killed himself in return gunfire."

"He might have been returning home from a constitutionalist study group in Cleveland when a state trooper pulled him over for speeding."

"The trooper stopped him near Edwards Road in the short stretch of state Route 21 that crosses Wayne County. It was near sunset. He asked Matthews -- a big man weighing more than 300 pounds by some estimates -- to give him his driver's license. The Jackson Township resident held it up, but he wouldn't hand it over."

"Perhaps he felt such a demand violated his constitutional rights. Or that the trooper was out of his jurisdiction or had not properly sworn his oath of office. Or maybe it was the legitimacy of the seat-belt law."

"These were common gripes discussed at the study group Matthews led several times a week."

KABA NOTE: Read the full article at the link above -- it's surprisingly fair.

This isn't the first time a strict Constitutionalist took a stand, paid for it with his life, and took a "law" enforcement officer with him. And unless redresses of grievances begin being taken seriously, it won't be the last.

SEE ALSO: Canton Rep's three reports on this event; Cincinnati Enquirer's biased "coverage"; and Newsnet5.com's "report", which dishonestly states:

"It's still not known why Matthews refused to give up his license or why he fled."

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. -- "Franklin County's director of public safety was charged with driving under the influence after his car crashed into a barbed-wire fence in the county, state police said."

"Claude Webster, 50, was driving south on Grassy Hill Road when he lost control of the car rounding a curve about 3 p.m. Saturday, police spokesman Mike Stater said. The crash damaged the fence and the car but Webster was not injured."

"Webster was released on bond and a preliminary hearing was set for Aug. 21. Stater did not know what Webster's blood alcohol content was when he crashed or what led police to believe he was driving under the influence."

"Webster was suspended without pay for a month in February after he was convicted of brandishing a firearm during an argument with a woman in front of him at a Wendy's drive-through last December. Webster testified that he pulled out a .22 caliber handgun after arguing with the woman over a long wait for an order."

AL: Men indicted on weapons charges

"A federal grand jury in Birmingham indicted three Huntsville men Thursday on allegations they bought pistols in Hazel Green, filed off the serial numbers and conspired to smuggle the weapons to New York state."

"The investigation was pursued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, New York police officers and the Madison County Sheriff's Department."

"Sheriff's Sgt. Charles Berry said he was able to restore the serial numbers to determine where the pistols were bought and who bought them."

"The defendants allegedly purchased 70 pistols between November and March from James Longshore, a licensed firearms dealer in Hazel Green. No charges have been brought against Longshore."

"Cassimy, Derrick and Gage are charged with conspiring to transport, sell and receive guns with obliterated serial numbers and dealing in firearms without a license."

"Each count of the indictment carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The men have not been arrested but are scheduled to be arraigned in Huntsville Aug. 15."

KABA NOTE: While the "politically correct" position to take in this case would be to sit back and applaud the efforts of law enforcement -- especially if you're a Sarah Brady worshipper -- consider the following:

1) The serial number system is a system that allows registration of firearms. Registration has led to confiscation on American soil on numerous occasions.

2) America's founding fathers, if told by King George that serial numbers were required on firearms, would've told him to lick their boots.

3) Requiring a "license" to deal in firearms, in 1776, would've received a hearty laugh and a middle finger.

4) The market for handguns in New York was created by their own anti-gun policies. Those policies directly defy the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Demand creates supply -- See: War On Some Drugs -- and there are people willing to risk imprisonment to fill that demand. The anti-rights crowd in New York created this type of black market, just like the anti-drug crowd created the black market on the handful of drugs from which the federal government doesn't overtly profit.

So who is really guilty here? This news story doesn't say these men were trying to arm true criminals. (True criminal: one who commits a crime against another person, where there is a real victim involved.) It could be that their customers were merely people who would like to have unregistered firearms to protect themselves where government fails to do so -- the story doesn't say; it just demonizes people who were exercising their right to keep and bear arms by sidestepping the Second Amendment Infringement Systems government has in place to control the people.

"Dozens of workers at a bulletproof-vest plant abandoned their assembly lines in protest Friday, staging a partial walk-out that union leaders predicted would grow strong enough to cripple the Oakland Park factory."

"The country's leading textile union is trying to organize Point Blank Body Armor's 320 workers at the plant, which produces flak jackets for soldiers and police officers. The union effort, launched last month, quickly became volatile as both sides accused the other of intimidation, and labor leaders enlisted members of Congress with influence over Point Blank's government contracts."

"Friday's protest drew between 50 and 200 workers, depending on which side's count was accurate. A company executive said the exodus was small enough that he could keep the plant running, but a union spokesman said more than half the workers walked out and that more are planning to join Monday."

"In a letter, NRA Political Victory Fund Chairman Chris W. Cox said the gun rights organization is backing David Fischer because of his 'outstanding support for the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans in stark contrast [with] the incumbent, [who] has rarely cast a vote in favor of the rights of many gun owners and shooting sportsmen in the 1st District.' "The problem is most extreme in major cities and the forces surrounding London. Official figures show that one in five of all officers in the Thames Valley and West Midlands forces has less than two years' experience."

"State governments are imposing unconstitutional laws beyond the authority given them in respective state constitutions, including those based on the damnable USA PATRIOT Act, Homeland Security, and FEMA. The state governments are merely following the lead of the US Government and wiping out what little was left of the US Constitution. Well, seems this has fallen by the wayside and [is] rarely mentioned."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. George Washington
