"Michael Osborne couldn't decide where to start when he walked through the doors of the National Guard armory in Elgin."
"Overwhelmed, the 8-year-old scanned the expansive assembly room, but then made a bee-line for the weapons on display."
"He fingered the 40 mm grenade launcher and picked up the M-16 machine gun almost reverently."
" 'This is the closest I'll ever let him get to a gun,' his mother, Laura, said, watching her son with bemusement."
------- There's no salvation for the ignorant. By not allowing her child proper firearms education, this woman is condemning him to a lifetime of fear of an inanimate object, curiosity about the "forbidden fruit" and possible tragedy due to ignorance. |

"When this town's seven police officers go on patrol, they never reach for their guns. That's because Hooper Bay is the only known municipality in the United States whose police officers are forbidden to carry firearms."
"Town leaders say they fear guns will just make the village more dangerous, even in the hands of cops. Police say town leaders are being unreasonable and insist guns can make the town safer."
------- So in Hooper Bay Alaska, the only people who are armed are the criminals. While the cops can only wave their hands and scream, "Stop! Or I'll say 'STOP!' again!" |

"Since 1976, D.C. residents have lived under the nation's most restrictive gun laws: Police enforce a citywide handgun ban, and local statutes require residents to keep long guns disassembled, unloaded and locked up. The law even forbids target shooting. Those who envision the United States as a violent cowboy nation might take comfort in knowing that this regime offers more restrictions than the laws anywhere else in the United States, in Canada, or indeed, in any major European Union nation." |

"Blaming firearms manufacturers and dealers for what criminals do with guns is like holding baseball bat makers responsible for the Tigers' anemic hitting, right?"
"And courts in Michigan and other states have overwhelmingly rejected the argument that the gun industry should be held accountable for the costs associated with handgun violence, right?" ...
"But in Michigan and elsewhere, lawmakers indebted to the gun industry and its insurers have made sure that dealers and manufacturers don't have to answer to anyone, no matter how irresponsibly they behave." |

"Residents in seven metro Denver counties have filed at least 2,223 applications, most under a new statewide law that took effect May 19, the latest figures show." "But sheriffs had taken action on only 450 applications - a little more than 20 percent." |

"On Friday, a Memphis federal jury acquitted FedEx pilot Vernice Kuglin of six counts of felony Tax Evasion and Willful Failure to File tax returns."
"Ms. Kuglin's attorneys, Tax Honesty Movement barristers Larry Becraft and Robert G. Bernhoft, told reporters that Kuglin was indicted seven months ago and had refused to plead the case out for a lesser sentence. During her testimony Kuglin testified that since 1995, she had sent numerous letters to the IRS requesting that they inform her of what law required her to pay the Individual Income Tax. To this day, she has not received an answer." |

FULL STORY BELOW:
A teenager fatally shot himself Saturday during what was described as a game of Russian roulette.
Gary Brandon Wellman Junior of Sand Gap, 19, was with three friends in an apartment when the shooting happened at about 2:20 a.m., Jackson County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Hacker said.
According to witnesses, Wellman removed five bullets from a pistol before putting the gun to his head and pulling the trigger.
The official cause of death was an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot, Hacker said.

FULL STORY BELOW:
The militants in Chechnya killed a secondary school teacher, RIA Novosti was told on Monday by a spokesman for the regional operational headquarters for controlling the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus.
"The crime was committed last night in the village of Ulus-Kert, the Shatoi district," said the spokesman. According to him, the bandits burst into the house of Said-Ahmed Arsakhanov, 32, and his wife.
"The militants cruelly beat Arsakhanov and then killed him by two shots from a pistol into the head and set the house on fire," reported the headquarters spokesman. Arsakhanov taught physics in the local secondary school.

"Chicago Police were noticing an uptick in crime at Cabrini-Green in the early morning hours after plainclothes tactical teams went off-duty. So they adjusted their schedules as part of a new 'rapid deployment' initiative, hoping to throw gang members a 'curve ball,' according to one official. The tactic worked when East Chicago District officers nabbed a 17-year-old suspect minutes after he and two cohorts allegedly robbed a man, pistol-whipped him and stole his 1992 Toyota."
------- Unfortunately, this is what happens when law abiding, peaceable citizens are forcibly disarmed by their government. They become victimized by armed thugs, who don't abide by the law. |

"Coming out in September 2003, 'Supreme Court Gun Cases' dispels the myth that the High Court has been quiet on the subject of guns. The book runs 672 pages, covers 92 gun-related cases, and this is the bottom line: the Supreme Court has upheld the legal tradition and historical record of private gun ownership, self defense, and armed self defense, since the country began. The days of saying Americans have no individual gun rights are now over." |

For that matter, background checks should not be done on anyone, but that is an issue for discussion elsewhere. Psychology is so out of touch with reality that it is impossible to tell what next might be considered a personality disorder... that would then be used to expand the number of persons prohibited from owning guns." |

It would seem that establishment-recognized experts scoff while those who effect change do the work and pay the price -- that the pedantic blindness of the former does not become evident until after history has run its course.
