'A skeptic could surmise that a better-armed populace might have made no difference,' the overview for 'Gun Control in the Third Reich: Disarming the Jews and "Enemies of the State"' observes, 'but the National Socialist regime certainly did not think so -- it ruthlessly suppressed firearm ownership by disfavored groups.'

Starbucks says a Newtown, Conn., store closed early Friday before advocates on both sides of the gun issue planned to gather there.
Starbucks vice president Chris Carr said on the company website that the decision was made out of respect to the community, where 20 school children and six educators were slain in December.
Organizers of a Starbucks Appreciation Day said in a Facebook ad that they wanted to thank Starbucks for standing up for their rights to bear arms and would meet at the store.
Gun control supporters were not pleased with Starbucks decision for closing the Newtown store.

Forty-six U.S. Senators voted to give up the Second Amendment to the United Nations. In Colorado, now one of the hot spots for gun control, both U.S. Senators, Mark Udall and Michael Bennett, voted to give away those rights.

Luckily for America, 53 Senators voted to uphold the bill that reads: "To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty." This may have happened on March 13, 2013, however, the debate is ongoing in individual states, as outlined in a Fox News article Latest bills could make California toughest state on gun control.

Eberhardt shared the troubling anecdote last Friday during a public hearing examining so-called stand your ground laws. The hearing occurred during the six-day annual meeting of the American Bar Association (ABA). Individuals such as Eberhardt discussed reasons why the self-defense laws and doctrines, which currently exist in more than half the U.S. states, unnecessarily and disproportionately jeopardize the lives of people of color, especially Black men.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 44 million Americans own firearms. Of the 192 million firearms owned in the United States, 65 million are handguns. Research shows guns in homes can present a serious risk to families. A gun kept in the home is 43 times more likely to be used, intentionally or unintentionally, to kill someone known to the family than to kill someone in self-defense. A gun kept in the home triples the risk of homicide. Lastly, the risk of suicide is five times more likely if a gun is kept in the home.

Although Aug. 9 was declared Starbucks Appreciation Day by Second Amendment advocates, one Starbucks establishments didnt quite feel the love. But instead of denying them entry, it simply decided to declare a holiday Friday and close up shop.

Starbucks has a nationwide policy of allowing customers to openly carry handguns in their stores, so long as they conform to state and local law. When people got wind that gun enthusiasts were planning to hold a Starbucks Appreciation Day, some non-gun carrying customers complained, according to Mr. Conservative.

It's been more than seven months since the murders in Newtown, Conn., and it appears the momentum to get something done with expanded background checks has come to a halt. Do you plan to continue your push for background checks?

Manchin: It was a common sense proposal, it was put together in a very bipartisan way, it was put together with the input of people that come from gun cultures such as myself, and also people out in the state of West Virginia who are real gun supporters. Once they saw what we were trying to do, and the first premise is as a law-abiding gun owner - I'm a law abiding gun owner, I love the guns I have, and no one's going to take them from me - with that being said, I'm not going to sell my gun to a stranger.

About 1.5 million violent crimes are committed in the United States every year. Crime goes up in direct correlation to the economic situation people are in. When the economy fails and people are out of work and desperate, some will turn to crime to survive. Law enforcement agencies arent equipped to respond to every emergency call. By the time they get to the scene, it is far too late for them to do much more than access the situation and write up the report. A well-thought-out plan of defense is the only way we can protect ourselves.

Used for self-defense, the devices temporarily paralyze their target and in rare cases, can even cause death if preexisting medical conditions exist.

In Drake v. Filko, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit held that New Jersey's handgun-permit law, which sets the standards for the issuance of permits to carry a handgun in public, is an acceptable regulation under the Second Amendment. This case is just one of many recent federal decisions on gun law, and it is an issue that is certainly headed soon to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Rising homicides and an increase in gang violence are sparking calls for local gun laws in Gary despite a state law that bars local ordinances regulating firearms.

The state is sending technical assistance to Gary and has ordered city leaders to work with the Indiana State Police to identify needs. The U.S. Department of Justice also is consulting city officials.

Former Gary Mayor Richard Hatcher tells The Times in Munster Gary's problems aren't new. He says lawmakers need to rethink their stance on local gun rules.

Last month we brought you the story of GunByGun.org, an organization that planned to use crowdfunding in an effort to hold gun buyback programs. The organization currently has an active Indiegogo campaign that is seeking $20,000 via flexible funding. It has raised over $14,000 with 20 days to go. The campaign is also a verified nonprofit campaign, so contributions are tax deductible.

GunByGun recently held a gun buyback in San Francisco that netted $157 firearms. The program promised $100 for any firearm and $200 for assault weapons, no questions asked. As long as the gun was in working order it could be exchanged for cash.

A weekend news report on KOMO revealed that some members of the Lakewood City Council are testy about toy guns, so much so that they are apparently pondering whether to get toughby making it a gross misdemeanor to display one in a threatening way.

When kids play cops and robbers or engage in Wild West fantasies or play war without the paintballs, that can get fairly aggressive. Are there any paintball operations in Lakewood? Paintball can get really aggressive.

KOMO quoted one unidentified mom who makes her son leave the Nerf gun at home. He cannot take it in the car.
