A Genesee County school district voted to appeal a judges ruling that says a father can carry his pistol openly inside his daughters elementary school. And the district superintendent said the Legislature needs to take action to remove ambiguity in the law that allows some to carry guns openly in school.
Circuit Judge Archie Hayman on Monday ruled in favor of Kenneth Herman and the gun-rights advocacy group Michigan Open Carry. Herman filed a lawsuit in March against the Clio district, arguing he was denied access to Edgerton Elementary multiple times while trying to pick up his daughter because he was carrying his pistol openly.
"The ruling today does not come as a surprise, the law is the law," Herman told the Flint Journal ... |

From Fort Smith comes the news that Bruce Coleman, a man who is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, traditional marriage and is pro-life, to boot. is seeking the District 81 seat in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
If elected, he will represent folks from Alma, Chester, Mountainburg, West Work and Winslow.
Like all conservatives, he will work to cut all of that infernal red tape which bedevils small businesses, so that more good-paying jobs may be created. He also vows to fight for the conservative values which he believes that the folks of Crawford and Washington Counties hold so dear. |

A gun rights activist announced Tuesday he will ask Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden to formally investigate the Madison County Sheriffs Offices use of certain fees.
Dan Roberts, a logwright and 25-year Madison County resident, requested the inquiry after IdahoReporter.com revealved the sheriffs office spent concealed weapons fees on guns and a used car, as well as tile and carpet for an office.
It seems we have reached a stalemate, as the sheriff has said he has no culpability, the commissioners have washed their hands of it and the people looking into it want answers, Roberts said in a prepared statement. |

As most people know, Florida has some of the loosest gun laws in America.
It's easy to get guns here. And you can take them most anywhere.
Still, there are a handful of places guns have long been banned including college campuses and legislative meetings.
Florida politicians, however, want to change that ... well, part of it anyway.
They want to lift the ban on college guns but keep the ban at the Capitol.
That's right, the legislators want guns around students, but far away from themselves. |

New demonstrations in Ferguson, Mo., led to a standoff with police and the arrests of 23 people Monday night, one day after a vigil for Michael Brown was marred by gunfire. The arrests came as police in riot gear tried to force people to disband and leave the street.
The night also brought a new development to Ferguson: Sometime after midnight, "a group of five white men who call themselves the Oath Keepers arrived on the scene," St. Louis Public Radio reports. "They carried assault weapons, which raised alarm from protesters."

According to multiple media reports, a group of at least four or five heavily armed white men showed up on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, overnight on Tuesday, following the street unrest around the one-year anniversary of the killing of Mike Brown and Sundays shooting of another man who allegedly fired on police. The men told reporters they were members of the Oath Keepers, a militia group that describes itself as nonpartisan supporters of the United States Constitution and says it includes many current and former U.S. military personnel, police officers and first responders. |

'Guardians and defenders'
Founded in 2009, the Oath Keepers group says it is reaching out to both current and former military, police, and first responders "to teach them more about the Constitution they swore to defend, and to inspire them to defend it".
It describes itself as a non-partisan association, telling members not to obey "unconstitutional orders". These, its website says, include orders to disarm the American people, to conduct warrantless searches, or to detain Americans as "enemy combatants" in violation of their ancient right to jury trial.

Gillibrand (D-NY) said it takes "regular people coming to Washington" to speak to lawmakers and change their point of view on issues.
The senator noted that the majority of Americans "support common sense gun reform" and want "good, honest Americans to be able to go hunting and have their Second Amendment rights."
But laws should be harsher on criminals, she argued.
As for Congress, "They're in their bubble, they're out of touch, they don't realize there are very significant gun reforms that you can put in place that actually keep guns out of the hands of criminals. It's not a Second Amendment issue."
She is sponsoring a bill that prevents gun trafficking from states with weaker laws to states with more stringent laws. |

Three years later, the shooter, who most likely still lives in the neighborhood, remains at large. The failure of the police to find justice for Akeal and others like him has led her to one firm and yet seemingly counterintuitive conviction: stop and frisk should be reinstated to save lives in the black community.
Instituted in New York City in the 1990s by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and then police commissioner Bill Bratton to fix a city crippled by crime, stop and frisk aimed to improve quality of life in a far more serious manner than Broken Windows, which had focused primarily on petty criminals turnstile jumpers, squeegee men and graffiti taggers. |

From the police departments side, Chief Jeffrey Horvath said the idea of enforcing something he sees as unconstitutional is untenable.
The Delaware constitution says you have the right to keep and bear arms. Thats exactly how its worded, Chief Horvath said.
I dont want to be in a position where someone is insisting Its on the books, youre not enforcing it, he added. I think we need to be able to tell the police officers that this is what youre supposed to do because its the right thing to do. |

District Judge Thad Balkman on Tuesday denied a request from a gun advocacy group to make a temporary injunction forbidding a ban on guns at a music festival into a permanent order.
The Legislature would be the proper forum to seek a permanent way to prohibit enforcement of a no-guns policy at public events, Balkman said.
Balkman ruled in April in favor of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association, which asked for a temporary restraining order to prohibit organizers of the Norman Music Festival from enforcing a no-guns policy on public areas encompassed by the festival. He said businesses, however, had the right to enforce gun bans on their property. |

Seattle wants to raise money for research and programs aimed at preventing gun violence. City leaders say the gun tax could generate up to a half-million dollars a year. But gun rights advocates say it will cost the city business.
I dont think they are going to collect anywhere near that. In fact, they might end up with a business deficit if these businesses leave the city of Seattle, said Dave Workman, of the Second Amendment Foundation.
If the foundation has any say, the new gun tax won`t hold up in a court of law.
I am absolutely certain there will be a lawsuit filed and there could be more than one, Workman said |

Dozens of homeowners in Greene County are upset about a proposed shooting range.
The Durrer family wants to convert two acres of their farm land into a semi-outdoor shooting range. The proposed range would be built near Route 29 and Route 33 in Ruckersville, close to Big Iron Outdoors, LLC.
A group called Greene County Neighbors (GCN) is opposed to the Durrer family building the gun range so close to homes. Group members are citing safety and noise as two major factors that could ruin their neighborhoods.
"We like the views, we like the safety of living here in Greene," said homeowner Lance Pickett.

Alabamas sheriffs are speaking out about what they call serious concerns with the states gun laws, according to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.
Flanked at the Russell County Courthouse Tuesday morning by a dozen sheriffs from Morgan County in the north to Marengo County in the south, Taylor used recent Louisiana theater shooter Rusty Houser, a former Phenix City resident, as an example of how legislative changes to Alabamas gun laws have handcuffed law enforcements ability to protect the public. |

Two years after a controversial gun violence tax was adopted by the Cook County, Illinois board, the homicide count in Chicago stands at 281, according to the Chicago Tribune, leaving critics of yesterdays unanimous Seattle City Council vote to adopt a carbon copy measure wondering what Council President Tim Burgess and his colleagues were thinking.
On April 1, 2013 the Huffington Post quoted Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who said the $25-per-gun tax would go toward offsetting the high cost taxpayers shoulder as a result of gun violence. Last year, the Chicago Tribune said there were 434 slayings. If the bloodbath continues there at the current rate, one might say the gun tax has been a failure.

Open Carry activists in Michigan and beyond are celebrating Monday's ruling by a circuit court judge that a Genesee County man can openly carry a sidearm into an elementary school to pick up his daughter, but yesterdays Detroit Free Press said the school district may appeal the decision and also lobby state lawmakers to clarify the states carry law.
The newspaper said Kenneth Herman was joined by Michigan Open Carry in the legal action after Herman complained in March that he had been repeatedly denied entry into Edgerton Elementary School to pick up his daughter. |
