A new state-of-the-art firearms facility could open in Milford by early spring.

After a series of long meetings held during the past several months to hammer out details, the Milford Township Board of Trustees conditionally approved a proposal for a 37,500-square-foot training and educational facility proposed by Huron Valley Guns owner Ed Swadish.

The $5.4 million facility is slated for an 8-acre acre parcel on Milford Road just north of Pontiac Trail in the townships south end.

Swadish said the facility will consist of 25 lanes for where private individuals can shoot, as well as six lanes dedicated to local police department training.

The business will also sell firearms and accessories, and include an outdoor archery range.

The Punta Gorda policeman who tragically shot and killed a retired librarian when he fired real bullets instead of blanks at her during a citizens academy is a former Miramar officer with a troubled record, forced to resign from his job at the end of his rookie year.

Three years before the shooting that led to the death of 73-year-old Mary Knowlton on Tuesday, Lee Coel was accused twice of using excessive force and relieved of his duties before investigators found he violated department policies and was allowed to resign.

This year, he was sued in Punta Gorda after he ordered his K-9 to attack a bicyclist who was stopped for riding without a light at night, inflicting severe injuries that required surgery.

The soul of America is dying. Hate, fear and guns a deadly combination.

It didnt have to be this way.

What if the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled 4-5 instead of 5-4 on the 2008 Heller case that ultimately decided an individual, outside of a militia, had the right to bear arms?

What if Congress governed with the understanding that the Second Amendment, in accordance with the Heller decision, does not entitle an individual to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose?

Schwartz recently hosted a press conference at the San Diego County Administration Building to announce that SDCGO has formed a coalition to oppose Proposition 63, backed by Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democratic candidate for governor in 2018. If passed, the November ballot measure, billed as the Safety for All Initiative by supporters, would tighten Californias gun control laws by requiring background checks to buy ammunition, outlaw possession of normal capacity ammunition magazines and require people to report their gun stolen in a timely manner.

The remaining third of firearm deaths are mostly homicides, with accidents contributing a negligible number. So is the American College of Surgeons expanding its mission? Do ACS members believe their surgical skills endow them with some power to teach responsibility to habitual violent criminals?

This was apparently a woman openly carrying and a robber not paying attention to that detail. Another armed puke bites the dust.

Her decision to leave the scene and going home to call 911 was not a bad idea. There is always the risk the robber was not alone. If there are no missing details, this will be a no charges filed case.

As mentioned previously, there is risk in drawing against someone already pointing a firearm. The surprise and a practiced smooth draw really make that work!

In a new multi-million-dollar ad buy, the NRA attacks Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintons stance on guns.

Clinton, the ad says, doesnt want gun owners to be able to protect themselves. The National Rifle Association said its spending $3 million on the ad in North Carolina plus other "key battleground states" of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Nevada.

"Shes one of the wealthiest women in politics," the ad begins. "Combined income: $30 million. Tours the world on private jets. Protected by armed guards for 30 years. But she doesnt believe in your right to keep a gun at home for self-defense."

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval came out against a background check initiative supported by gun control advocates on the November ballot, saying Thursday it would "unnecessarily restrict rights of law-abiding Nevadans."

"The governor does not support Question 1," Sandoval spokeswoman Mari St. Martin said in a statement. It said Sandoval wasn't satisfied the measure addressed "the complex issue of keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals."

Police are investigating the case of a Houston man who was shot in the neck by his neighbor. The neighbor allegedly became enraged upon seeing the victim beating his dog.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday morning when the victim, a man in his 20s, was reportedly seen beating a dog that was apparently barking all night long.

But as he was beating the animal, a neighbor, in his 60s, confronted the younger man over the cruelty.

...

Police reported that the older man would probably not be charged because the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Ed.: Here in TX, animal cruelty is a felony.

We think Carry Lifers should take a look at Patrick Blanchfields Theyre Coming for the Ones You Love over at the Nation. While we ran a couple of highlighters dry marking the not-so-subtle mockery, eye-rollers and inevitable outlier quotes, his treatment of self-defense considerations and training is usefulif not exactly importantin several ways.

In fairness, an initial prop is due: It is candid, albeit from a subtle anti perspective. Our public discourse on Second Amendment issues, and specifically concealed carry, is in desperate need of such candor, especially as a pivotal election approaches.

More than 17,000 people in the state of South Dakota have a concealed carry permit.

And one man is now facing criminal charges for using his firearm during a robbery.

Police are requesting a warrant for 22 year old Austin Hier who police say shot at suspects, Yuriah Anderson and Jaumal Shangreaux as they were running away from the scene of a robbery of a Corner Pantry on East Fairmont avenue June 22nd.

According to police because Hier did not witness what when on inside the store and he was never threatened by the suspects so police are calling his use of a firearm reckless.

In the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Germany and throughout Europe, its clear that the German public and German politicians are moving in opposite directions on the issue of gun rights and the fundamental human right of self-defense.

On one hand, record numbers of German citizens are applying for weapons permits to protect themselves. On the other hand, German politicians are moving to further restrict Germans access to, and ownership of, firearms.

Its a disconnect we see here in the United States as well.

There is no mention of flag-burning; no mention of computers, Twitter, Facebook or the internet; no mention of radio; no mention of television or satellites.

The Second Amendment states, "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

The same people pushing for a broad interpretation of the First Amendment always want to redefine the meaning of the Second Amendment. Nowhere in the Second Amendment does it say for hunting. Nowhere does it say for muskets only, and does not include modern semiautomatic weapons.

Still numb from the latest mass shooting, in Orlando, it's easy to imagine that guns have always divided us this way. But a close look at survey data over decades shows they haven't.
There was a time when most citizens favored banning handguns, the chief gun lobbyists supported firearm restrictions, and courts hadn't yet interpreted the Second Amendment as guaranteeing a personal right to bear arms for self-defense at home.

Theres a lot of ambiguity regarding the new gun laws, and how do we effectively manage and run all of our venues with the direct laws that are in place that are applicable to most of the states, said Mark Herrera, director of education for the International Association of Venue Managers at the workshop The Impact of New Gun Laws on Public Venues.

The half-presentation and half-discussion workshop was held at the 2016 IAVM VenueConnect conference at the Minneapolis Convention Center on July 23. With a special eye kept on new open-carry laws for firearms in many states, the workshop began with an educational portion, in which experts shared their findings and experiences with second amendment rights as they pertain to venues.

Rhode is against increased gun regulation. Though she says she understands the push for more controls, she doesnt agree with them.

We should have the right to keep and bear arms, to protect ourselves and our family, Rhode said. The Second Amendment was put in there not just so we can go shoot skeet or go shoot trap. It was put in so we could defend our First Amendment, the freedom of speech, and also to defend ourselves against our own government.

A gun rights group filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday challenging a New Jersey law that bans private individuals from owning stun guns, Tasers and other electronic weapons as unconstitutional.

The complaint, filed by the New Jersey Second Amendment Society in U.S. District Court for New Jersey, cited a U.S. Supreme Court decision in March that suggested possessing such arms was protected by the U.S. Constitution.

Gun rights advocates filed a similar lawsuit a week ago to invalidate a stun gun ban in Washington, D.C.

In addition to New Jersey, several states including Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island have outlawed electronic weapons like Taser guns.

A local group is celebrating a year of teaching women how to handle guns safely.

A year in, the Fort Wayne chapter of The Well Armed Woman, "Hilda," has 90 members.

Don't let their manicured nails fool you, these ladies aren't messing around.

Sure, there's some socializing, especially on a day like this Thursday, when there's reason to celebrate.

Some came in to the group with experience, but others?

Ive been a handloader for over two decadesinitially out of financial necessity, and subsequently because of the benefits of rolling my ownand I've come to rely upon my own ammunition in a wide and diverse range of hunting situations. Ive been told I was insane for using handloaded ammo on dangerous game hunts in both North America and Africa; Ive been told that in no way, shape or form could I match the potential of factory ammo; and Ive been told that reloaded ammunition is dangerous. I wholeheartedly disagree on all points.

In a case that has spurred a town-wide debate on the second amendment, the owner of an ammunition store in Lacey Township will not be permitted to sell firearms, the townships Zoning Board of Adjustment has ruled.

William Malcolm, a retired captain of the Union County Sheriffs Office, owns Jersey Sportsman on Route 9. He qualifies for a federal permit to sell firearms in his shop, however he cannot receive the permit until the municipal government confirmed zoning approval. The townships zoning officer decided that gun sales were not a permitted use in the C-150 commercial zone, forcing Malcolm to seek a variance from the board.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Without freedom there will be no firearms among the people; without firearms among the people there will not long be freedom. Certainly there are examples of countries where the people remain relatively free after the people have been disarmed, but there are no examples of a totalitarian state being created or existing where the people have personal arms. Neal Knox
