A Cleveland woman who was found dead in her jail cell tells prison officers she fears for her life in body camera footage released by police on Tuesday.
Ralkina Jones, 37, discussed her medical needs with Cleveland Heights jail officers in a video filmed roughly 15 hours before they discovered her dead last month, the Northeast Ohio Media Group reported.
Im not asking for any exception to any rules, but I will tell you this: I dont want to die in your cell, Jones said, pointing at the room where she was later found dead. |

Facial recognition software, which American military and intelligence agencies used for years in Iraq and Afghanistan to identify potential terrorists, is being eagerly adopted by dozens of police departments around the country to pursue drug dealers, prostitutes and other conventional criminal suspects. But because it is being used with few guidelines and with little oversight or public disclosure, it is raising questions of privacy and concerns about potential misuse.
Law enforcement officers say the technology is much faster than fingerprinting at identifying suspects, although it is unclear how much it is helping the police make arrests. |

Well, heres a sad poll regarding the Second Amendment: there is a consensus that gun owners should have to register their firearms into a national database. In fact, its an overwhelming consensus, according to the YouGov poll. In all, 64 percent of Americans support a registry. Of that figure, 59 percent of men and 68 percent of women agree. Additionally, concerning race, 61 percent of whites, 75 percent of blacks, and 68 percent of Hispanics also agree. Regarding income, from under $40k to over $80k, on average, 63 percent support a national database. |

When Lake Jackson Police arrived, the found a 15-year-old boy on the front porch of the home with two bullet wounds.
They soon learned he was a burglary suspect, and the shooter was a contractor who was working at the home, painting the garage.
"All of the evidence does indicate they were acting in self defense," said Lake Jackson Police Chief Rick Park.
Park says officers found a weapon underneath the wounded boy. The contractor told police he saw that suspect point a weapon at him before he opened fire.
"Any time that you display a weapon, whether you're licensed or not," added Chief Park, "you should be aware that you may not be the only one with one." |

Bizarrely, it turns out that even the police arent sure whether what the Oath Keepers were doing was legal. NBC reported that the St. Louis County Police Department said it would consult with the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorneys Office about the legalities of the issue. Missouri, like many other states, allows open carrying of assault rifles under certain conditions. In this case, Missouri law says that people with concealed carry permits may briefly and openly display the firearm anywhere in the state unless the firearm is intentionally displayed in an angry or threatening manner, not in necessary self defense. |

On October 10, 2012, Breitbart News reported that Cook County Officials were pushing a gun and ammo violence tax to offset the cost of gun violence in Chicago. The tax was implemented in 2013, homicides rose in 2014, and they are higher now than they were a year ago at this point.
On August 10, 2015 the Seattle City Council passed a similar tax$25 for every gun and five cents for every bullet sold in the cityunder the same premise; that a punitive tax will somehow punish those behind gun crime, perhaps reducing it.

National Rifle Association past president and Florida gun lobbyist Marion Hammer promoted the NRA's plan to force Florida colleges and universities to allow students to carry guns by claiming that opponents of the measure are "engaged in a war on women," given the epidemic of campus sexual assault.
The NRA has increasingly co-opted the issue of sexual assault on college campuses to push legislation that would allow guns on campus, even though no evidence exists that more guns would make campuses safer for women. In fact, research has repeatedly indicated that where there are more guns, women are more likely to be murdered, often by an intimate partner. |

That means that West Poplar residents and antiviolence groups - about 50 people attended Wednesday's hearing - will have to wait at least another month to learn whether Zalzman can open a gun shop in his North Percy Street building.
In Philadelphia, gun shops are normally allowed only in industrial zones, and only if situated more than 500 feet from a church, school, or residence. Zalzman's business, the Gun Range, at 542 N. Percy, is in a commercial zone, but is surrounded by new housing and is across the street from the artists' studio 915 Spring Garden. |

Sheriffs from all over the state are coming together to fight a proposed gun legislation.
The bill would allow people in Alabama the right to carry a loaded gun in their vehicle without a concealed carry permit.
The sheriffs are calling it a battle of freedom and public safety.
As the law stands now, it is legal for someone to have a gun in their car without a permit, but there are rules to follow: the gun cannot be loaded, and it must be put in a locked box out of reach of any passengers in the vehicle. |

On August 13, Floridas League of Women Voters (FLWV) will start building a coalition to oppose Republicans push to arm women for self-defense on college campuses.
FLWV will launch coalition efforts at a Gun Safety Summit at Orlandos First Unitarian Church.
According to WUSF News, the goal of the summit will be to build stronger opposition to legislation that would arm women and other law-abiding citizens for self-defense. FLWVs Patti Brigham said, College campuses are safe places. Guns have no place there unless carried by police.

Melendez said that, after returning from a trip abroad, he entered his home and was assaulted by an unknown man near his front door. The assault continued inside of the home and Melendez was able to access a firearm that was kept near the front door, and shot the man several times in self defense.
Melendez cooperated with police throughout the investigation and independent witness statements corroborated Melendez's version of events. |

So many people who complain about armed self-defense are relatively young and relatively healthy with little experience with violent crime. They delude themselves into thinking that they can either defeat an attacker with a punch or kick, which is typically something theyve imagined, but never practiced, and certainly not against a living opponent who is likely much stronger, faster, and resistant to punches than they ever imagined. Alternately, they think they could somehow get away from an attacker, summon help that will arrive in a timely manner, or use some sort of chemical spray or other less lethal alternative at contact or near-contact distances, which again, theyve never actually practiced. |

Hosers hurk stopped for fuel in Ireland, where an odd thing happened. A gentleman met the plane in an old, tattered NRA hat, which kinda stuck out, he said. I said, I gotta get you a new hat. He raised an eyebrow, so I handed him one of my NRA American Warrior cards.
We had a short talk; He believed in the cause, having seen what had happened in his neck of the woods. His NRA membership had lapsed, though he still received his magazine. I told him Id see what I could do about it.
As Hoser and his crew were prepping to leave the next morning, the man handed him an envelope containing $200.

A key plank in Grishams platform will be a push for constitutional carry, which allows gun owners to carry a firearm, openly or concealed, without a permit. He describes the principle this way: If you can legally possess a firearm, then you should be able to carry that firearm, openly or otherwise, without having to beg the government for permission. Grisham views Texass current concealed-carry law as an unnecessary burden, and considers the various fees involved in the process which altogether total some $250 as onerous.
I believe in the exact same barriers, licensing, and training laws that were present when the Second Amendment was ratified, he says. If it wasnt present in 1791, I dont want it now. |

The obligatory parenthetical remark, of course we respect the Second Amendment, hangs at the end of the phrase, commonsense gun laws, like a puppy dogs tail. The gun grabbers wag it in our faces as if to suggest that American citizens who wish to exercise their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms should be sensible about guns as if we arent and, so, must be made to be. |

The New York State Bar Association has published a new book focusing on a single phrase in the U.S. Constitution that long has been a source of heated debate: the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
The book, Understanding the Second Amendment, Gun Regulation in America Today and Yesterday, examines the legal framework that governs ownership, possession and use of firearms in the United States. |

Unfortunately for him, he has miscalculated the rest of West Virginias voting demographics. West Virginians care deeply about their right to bear arms, across nearly every walk of life. And we are going to remember his betrayal of our heritage and our rights.
Do not be fooled by the Senators on-again off-again inconsistency in the media. I have sat face to face with him. We have discussed the Second Amendment.
Senator Manchin told me directly that self-defense and defense from tyranny are not functions of the Second Amendment in his view, even when faced with the words of the founders. |

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives says its not an agency within the meaning of a Freedom of Information Act statute cited in a civil suit over a records request.
The ATF is not an agency within the meaning of the FOIA, 5 U.S.C. 552(f)(1), and is, therefore, not a proper party defendant, the agency wrote in its answer to a complaint filed in federal court in June.
Since it was unclear if the answer meant that the ATF operated under a different FOIA statute or if the plaintiffs simply cited the wrong law, we sought clarification from attorneys representing the ATF, but efforts were unsuccessful. However, we were able to reach legal experts who specialize in the gun and constitutional law. |
