For 80 years, give or take a decade, the double-action (DA) revolver was the premier self-defense sidearm in the U.S., for law enforcement and private citizens alike. The entire idea behind the DA wheelgun was that, in a hurried, reactive situation the revolver could be drawn and fired instantly in double-action mode (the name derived from the fact that the trigger performed the double actions of cocking the firearm and firing it). However, if a more precise or difficult shot were needed, then the shooter could cock the hammer with their thumb and take advantage of the lighter single-action trigger pull. |

They say you arent supposed to talk politics and religion, but who are they, and why on earth not? After all, those are the most interesting, and consequential, things. If you practice a religion, its probably a component of that religion to spread its good news to other people. Theres nothing wrong with that, even though Christians, in particular, are told to essentially sit down and shut up regarding the Bibles take on things. But despite this, many Christians continue to spread the Gospel to their communities and the rest of the world, and thats a good thing. |

Will Some Conservatives Hand the Left a New Constitution? Were in a battle for the future of our country, former Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) told the annual convention of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) on Friday. Were either going to become a socialist, Marxist country like western Europe, or were going to be free. Sadly, if the proposal for a Convention of the States pushed by Coburn and ALEC were to actually succeed, the chances of the United States being transformed into a socialist democracy like Germany or France would greatly increase. |

It's not often that I find myself in agreement with Dana Loesch, spokesperson for the National Rifle Association. But on one crucial aspect of 3D-printed guns, she's right: Pandora's box has been opened. The blueprints are circulating. Loesch is probably much happier about that than I am. Her organization has fought tooth and nail to stop any regulation of firearms. The new 3D-printed guns defy the very possibility of regulation.

For many people cleaning their gun consists of wiping the dust off of the slide and putting it back into the safe once they leave the range. However like any mechanical device, your handgun requires regular maintenance and cleaning. The question of how much cleaning it needs is determined by how much you shoot and the conditions in which you are shooting. In the era of Glock and other durable handguns, some might argue that pistols dont need to be cleaned very often. I personally encourage you to clean your gun after every shooting session. |

Like most shooting enthusiasts, my personal firearms interests evolve regularly. Variety keeps the shooting sports fun and fresh. However, self-defense is not a sport. When it comes to the guns I rely on to protect my life and the lives of the ones I love, Ive found myself increasingly resistant to change as years go by and new and noteworthy advances in firearms design emerge. The new-and-improved fascinates the consumer, often quite justifiably, and I am no exception. |

The owner of a St. Charles County gun shop was cleaning up broken glass for the second time in just 2 months. Alien Armory Tactical owner Frank Bahr said crooks broke his storefront glass at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Sunday in an apparent burglary attempt. A similar break-in occurred on June 16th. In both cases, the suspect left empty-handed. No firearms were taken. |

Well, we all knew it wouldnt last. Weeks after two different Ninth Circuit panels surprisingly upheld Second Amendment rights by blocking Californias confiscation of large-capacity magazines and Hawaiis ban on open carry, the nations most progressive circuit returned to form. In a ruling earlier this month, it upheld one of the most bizarre and nonsensical gun regulations in the nation. It did so by essentially ignoring the plain language of Heller and approving a legal regime that will naturally and inevitably lead to diminishing options for citizens who seek to lawfully exercise their constitutional right to self-defense. |

One small island of sanity in the generally insane ocean of American gun culture is the near-complete federal ban on civilian possession of fully automatic weapons machine guns. The nation got a bitter taste last year of what wed be facing on a regular basis without that ban. On a Las Vegas night in October, 64-year-old businessman Stephen Paddock sprayed a music festival with more than 1,100 rounds in just 10 minutes from high in a nearby hotel, killing 58 people and wounding a surreal 851.

I am a big fan of compact carbines and a companion pistol that can share the same caliber of ammo and magazine. What a great approach for a survival/hunting package. Some folks may not realize that Kel-Tec offers what I consider to be a great duo of guns in the 22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire); the CMR-30 and its companion the Kel-Tec PMR-30 pistol also in 22 Magnum. Aside from survival and hunting applications either of these two guns have practicality in defensive and target shooting uses. Additionally the 22 magnum cartridge has been time tested for hunting small to medium size game (there has also been more than just a few deer taken with the 22 magnum).

If you see me walking the floors of a trade show, like the annual SHOT Show held in Las Vegas, don't be surprised if I enthusiastically swerve off the wide carpeted paths to handle the Old West-style firearms like those offered by Cimarron F. A. Co. Some folks believe that high-quality replicas of the cartridge-firing wheel and lever guns of the late 1800s are just for history buffs and cowboy action shooting competitions. In truth, these guns are some of the most fun and satisfying models to run on the range or carry in the field. Don't let the patent dates on the frames fool you; those designers knew what they were doing.

The states Wildlife Resources Commission is allowing residents to hunt in Hyde County starting on Sept. 1, marking the first legal hunt in 45 years. Theres a big catch to this plan however: only 20 permits will be given out for the month-long hunt. Hundreds of hunters have reportedly already applied for the $250 licenses, which will be randomly selected by computerized lottery. The News & Observer noted that the odds of securing an alligator permit may be worse than getting a ticket to see Hamilton at the Durham Performing Arts Center this fall.

The idea behind Production Division in IPSC and USPSA competition shooting was ostensibly to give the entry-level shooter a place where they could come compete without investing a ton of money in a specialized race gun. Internationally, that just meant a lower cost of entry to the sport of action-pistol shooting, but here in the U.S., it theoretically meant that a shooter could show up with their everyday carry pistol and have a division in which to compete with it. |

The Johnson vs. Monsanto verdict is a win for all of humanity and all life on earth, Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America exulted in a Saturday AFP report. The founding executive director of the non-profit group was commenting on a California jury award of nearly $290 million in a case that argued products containing the chemical compound glyphosate, Roundup and RangerPro, contributed substantially to groundskeeper Dewayne Johnsons terminal cancer. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd. Alexis de Tocqueville |
