This May, a public bus was traveling its usual midday route between the San Salvador airport and the city when a few men hopped on board, wearing the uniforms of road maintenance workers. Then they pulled out assault weapons and started firing on the passengers. Their targets were apparently two prison guards and a police investigator who were on the bus at the time, but three others were also mowed down in the attack. To Harry Penate, an adviser for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) who is based in the region, the incident was horrifying, but not remotely remarkable. Theres examples like that every day on the news, he explained, mentioning a week in early July when warring gangs were responsible for not one but two grenade attacks on the outskirts of Guatemala City. |

Well, Taylor Woolrich agrees to all 3 aforementioned questions. She's a student at Dartmouth in New Hampshire, and her stalker, who was imprisoned for a few years, could be released anytime. |

A federal judge on Tuesday upheld a Maryland ban on 45 assault weapons and a limit on gun magazines to 10 rounds, two key parts of a sweeping gun-control law that were challenged shortly before the law went into effect last year.
Maryland lawmakers approved the measure in response to the December 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, that killed 20 children and six educators. |

A set of 911 tapes that a prosecutor tried to withhold from a grand jury proved instrumental in helping acquit two Phoenix brothers who had been indicted on charges of murder and aggravated assault in a 2007 gang shootout.
On Tuesday after listening to the tapes in detail, a Maricopa County Superior Court jury came back with six not-guilty and six deadlocked verdicts against Jonathon Mena Cobian, 27, and his half brother John Mitchell Mena, 25. |

Police in the embattled town of Ferguson, Missouri shot down another man in the early hours of Wednesday morning, roughly a mile from the site of the towns protests against the slaying of unarmed black teen Michael Brown on Saturday.
MSNBC reported that around 1:00 a.m., St. Louis County Police responded to a report of gunshots and of five or six African-American men toting shotguns and wearing ski masks.
Officers told MSNBC that when they arrived on the scene, a group of men there scattered and ran. One of them reportedly pointed a handgun at police, which they said gave them no option other than to shoot. The suspect was injured and taken to an area hospital in police custody. |

Many already use passwords and touch screens to secure computers and smart phones. Now, some gun manufacturers are working to apply the same technology to safeguard firearms.
One example, the Identilock, saves fingerprints and only works when the gun's owner swipes. Another, the Armatix, only shoots if the user is wearing a special wireless watch.
Soon, "smart guns" like these may be produced in Tennessee because of a state law that went into effect July 1 giving tax breaks to companies that produce them. |

The controversial Stand Your Ground self-defense laws, which have been enacted in 33 states, have resulted in an increase in homicides compared to states without the laws and racial disparities in the outcomes of criminal cases, according to a task force convened by the American Bar Association.
As a result of the investigation by the nations top professional association for attorneys, the ABAs National Task Force on Stand Your Ground Laws recommends that states repeal their Stand Your Ground laws to get rid of this unnecessary and corrosive legislation. |

U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake, a Bill Clinton appointee, ruled Tuesday that Marylands recent draconian gun control law is perfectly fine because its well intentioned. The law banning 45 specific firearms, including semiautomatic rifles, and standard-capacity magazines, Blake said, seeks to address a serious risk of harm to law enforcement officers and the public from the greater power to injure and kill presented by assault weapons and large capacity magazines. Furthermore, it does so without significantly burdening the Second Amendment as interpreted by the Supreme Court. |

Gun owners and Constitutional rights supporters had a hand in this primary election, and we will continue to work toward removing Governor Malloy from Office in November.
Our first step has been to help Senator John McKinney depart from politics as an elected official. We now have a candidate that is far better positioned to beat Malloy at the next level. Mr. Foley did not specifically seek out our help, but it is certainly our obligation to send Governor Malloy back to private life. |

The recent killing of an unarmed teenager by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer incited riots in and around the northern St. Louis area. As usual, the police version and the version of several eye witnesses lie in stark contrast. The police version is, the young man was struggling with the officer and trying to take his weapon from him--and the officer fired his weapon in self-defense. Several eyewitnesses say the young man had his hands in the air and was surrendering when the officer shot him. The latter version is the more popular view of local residents, which prompted hundreds of people to riot. Yes, the victim was a young black man. |

On Tuesday, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke won re-election, defeating Milwaukee Police Lt. Chris Moews, his primary opponent, by nearly five percentage points. While Moews lost the election, however, the biggest loser was former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who dumped $150,000 to defeat Clarke.
Clarke, the pro-gun and pro-self defense conservative Democrat Bloomberg tried to defeat, could not raise anywhere near that much money, Capitol City Project said. Bloomberg, Capitol City Project said, actually spent more than the two candidates did -- and still lost. |

With his opponent conceding, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is a likely shoo-in for reelection in November. This apparently local race has national repercussions.
Anti-rights billionaire Michael Bloomberg spent $150,000 to beat Clarke, more than the two candidates spent together. During the last presidential election, Bloomberg spent as much as the firearms industry and the NRA combined. Hes committed $50 milliontwice as much as beforeto support candidates this fall who will work for him to destroy your civil right of self-defense. |

The August 4 decision is getting attention not only for its resultwhich Alabamas governor says he will appealbut also for the way Thompson compares abortion rights with gun rights.
At its core, he writes, each protected right is held by the individual: the right to decide to have an abortion and the right to have and use firearms for self-defense. |

Pima County sheriff's deputy spokesman Tracy Suitt said the incident occurred in the 5000 block of North Shannon Road at 1 a.m. A 26-year-old man was shot in the face at a residence by his 46-year-old mother's 50-year-old boyfriend. Both men and the woman live at the home, Suitt said.
The mother and her boyfriend had locked the son out of the house, and he pounded on the door until the 50-year-old opened the door, starting a confrontation that led to the shooting.
Suitt said deputies are investigating the shooting as a possible self-defense situation and there may not be an arrest. |
