A recent court ruling that allows a father to openly carry his gun in a Michigan elementary school has bolstered the confidence of plaintiffs who filed a similar suit against Ann Arbor Public Schools.
In April, Michigan Gun Owners and Ann Arbor parent Ulysses Wong filed a lawsuit against the district and Superintendent Jeanice Swift, claiming policies the Board of Education enacted in the spring that effectively ban guns from schools violate Michigan law.
The policies and subsequent lawsuit stem from a March 5 incident...
While state law prevents people from carrying concealed firearms on school property, individuals with concealed pistol licenses can openly carry their firearms in schools. |

Whats needed to curb violence is a focus on mental health, not more gun laws, Del. Thomas A. Tag Greason said Friday morning.
I really believe we have some troubled souls out there, and if we spend more time helping them on the mental-health side of this, I think we would be far better off at reducing the number of atrocities versus passing another law that is just simply going to be broken by a bad person with bad intentions, Greason (R-32) said to a audience gathered at the Ashby Ponds retirement community. |

Oregons universal background check law became effective Aug. 9, and already expectations are tempered. The states Public Broadcasting network ran a story featuring a skeptical county sheriff who summarized the measures likely effects as follows: [T]he bad people are going to get the guns regardless. So I truly think its a waste of time. Meanwhile, the Register-Guard editorialized, Oregon gun-sale background checks law gets off to a rough start. The article goes on to report, Several sheriffs in mostly rural counties have said they simply wont enforce the law at all. Yet advocates of civilian disarmament know that they cannot succeed unless the state knows which Americans actually own firearms. |

A new Pew Research Center poll released yesterday contains some bad news for at least some hardcore gun rights activists, but at the same time also further paints Democrats into a corner of their own choosing: That of the Party of Gun Control.
According to the Pew poll, taken July 14-20 among 2,002 adults, 85 percent of Americans support expanded background checks. That includes 88 percent of Democrats and 79 percent of Republicans. By a wide margin (79 percent) they also support laws prohibiting mentally ill people from buying guns, and 70 percent overall support the creation of a federal database to track all gun sales.

Gun-grabbers are pushing hard to get what they call Universal Background Check (UBC) legislation passed at the state level. They have recently been successful in Washington State and Oregon.
Universal Background Checks (UBC) are where all gun sales, including private sales, must be run through a government background-check system.
While that seems innocent enough, it isnt.

Guns and college campuses are a dangerous combination as shown by an incident last month at the University of Florida.
On July 27, a gun was fired on the UF campus after an argument at a nearby bar. University police reported that the argument escalated into a fistfight in a campus parking lot, ending when a 25-year-old man allegedly pulled out a gun from his girlfriends purse and fired it into the ground.

On Monday, the Seattle City Council unanimously passed two anti-gun ordinances.
As previously reported, these ordinances disregard Washingtons preemption law and victimize law-abiding gun owners and licensed firearm dealers. The first ordinance seeks to levy reparations from those who lawfully engage in the expression of their Second Amendment rights by imposing a tax on each firearm and round of ammunition that is legally sold in Seattle. |

Two Florida bills, SB 68 also known as HB 4001 and SB 72, which aim to arm people in public school and on college campuses, were filed Aug. 3 for the upcoming legislative session next year.

If there was one controversy which has been plaguing the 3D printing space for the past few years, it would have to be the potential dangers of 3D printable guns and more specifically guns designed and 3D printed by one man, named Cody Wilson and his organization, Defense Distributed. Wilson, known quite well within both the 3D printing space as well as among gun rights activists, is the man behind the much publicized, often scrutinized 3D printable Liberator gun. |

An Inland assemblywomans bill that would let gun owners under a gun violence restraining order transfer their firearms to federally licensed dealers was recently signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown.
Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore, said her bill is a victory for gun owners rights.
Under the new law, those who transfer their guns to a gun dealer can get them back once the restraining order ends. Before, someone who was the subject of an order had to either sell their firearms or surrender them to law enforcement. |

The District of Columbia government has agreed to pay $75,000 in legal fees to Alan Gura, the lawyer who successfully challenged the citys prohibition on carrying firearms in public for self-defense.
U.S. District Judge Frederick Scullin Jr.a New York judge sitting by special assignment in Washington struck down the ban on public carrying as unconstitutional in July 2014 and rebuffed the citys request to reconsider that decision several months later. |

The giddy 13-year-old boys oohed and aahed as they stared down the black shotgun barrels and aimed at clay targets they imagined whizzing through the air.
You guys are welcome to test any of these out, said Dusty Minke, a sales agent for Browning, as the teens elbowed each other for spots at his kiosk. Weve actually had a couple of kids who did so good on the test range that they were like, Can I use this for my rounds? We let em, and their scores went up and theyll hopefully go and buy one. |

Nerf's new Rival blasters are not just some puny dart guns. Revealed back in February, this new line of guns fire tiny, dimpled balls that exit the barrel at speeds of up to 70 MPH. The first pair of Rival gunsone an air-powered model (the Apollo XV-700), the other a battery-powered flywheel rifle (the Zeus MXV-1200)are clearly aimed towards older kids and kids-at-heart that are leaning towards the paintball end of the recreational gun spectrum. |

Shooting is an incredibly popular activity, and attracts people from all walks of life, for all sorts of reasons. Though once thought of as an activity practiced in rural areas, and passed down from father to son, interest in firearms is boomingaround the country, with young, urban, and female shooters being the fastest growing demographics. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004) |
