It means that both houses of the state legislature have come together to put together a resolution saying that there is interest in moving forward, on a national level," said political science adjunct professor Ian Anderson.

He also said this is just the very first step in creating a new amendment and is one of the two different ways that something can become an amendment.

"This would be the first state to ever really call for something like this. And so when we call for a convention, according to the Constitution in the process, at least two-thirds of the states have to agree to come together for the purpose of amending the Constitution," said Anderson.

Kyle Rittenhouse paragon of the far right, who killed two Black Lives Matter protesters with an assault-style rifle in 2020 and was acquitted of charges is, by all appearances, angling to become a political power player in Texas. The Texas Tribune reports that Rittenhouse, who moved to the state last year, is founding a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring the Second Amendment is preserved through education and legal assistance. And hes not doing it alone: The directors of The Rittenhouse Foundation include the president of Texas Gun Rights and the treasurer of a PAC that funds far-right candidates in the state; its legal representative is an attorney for a number of well-funded ultraconservative groups.

After a major U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year on Second Amendment rights, the Florida Supreme Court could decide whether to uphold a state law barring possession of guns by convicted felons.

An attorney for convicted felon William Edenfield on Tuesday asked the Florida Supreme Court to take up a constitutional challenge to the law. The request came after a three-judge panel of the First District Court of Appeal in May rejected Edenfields arguments.

But Daniels caught a break last week, when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled that his prosecution violated the Second Amendment, a decision that highlights the injustice of a policy that arbitrarily strips peaceful Americans of the constitutional right to armed self-defense.

Daniels committed the same gun crime as Hunter Biden: receipt or possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance. But while the presidents son would have escaped prosecution for that offense under a plea deal that a federal judge nixed last month, Daniels was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

Mark Bardens face looks out from my phone imploring me to contribute to Sandy Hook Promise to stop gun violence about every three minutes while Im watching YouTube videos.

I swipe it away as soon as that five second countdown ends. But it bothers me when I do it.

Yes, Ive contributed. Ive done my part, I say to myself.

But have I? Have we, as a society?

Do we protect our most vulnerable citizens, our children, like we should?

After 105 years of existence, the .380 ACP dang sure aint going anywhere. Hard to swallow as this may be for some folks, it was invented by the same gunmaker genius who gave us the perennially popular and powerful .45 ACP cartridge, the legendary John Moses Browning. And whats more, no less a mans man than General George S. Patton carried a .380 pocket auto as a backup to his beloved ivory-handled revolvers.

With that sense of ballistic and historical perspective, lets look at the best defensive loads for the oh-so-maligned .380 ACP.

After Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill decided not to press charges against a police officer in an "unjustified" shooting, he said that Utah's "use of force" law is making communities less safe by handcuffing prosecutions, affecting not only law enforcement but also other cases.

There are people engaged in violent crimes, who we used to hold accountable, who are getting a pass, Gill told 2News. Weve had multiple cases where people have been shooting at each other, weve even charged them with murder, and those cases have been kicked out.

A question frequently encountered in the cannabis industry involves a cannabis users gun rights. This stems from the ever-present federal and state law tension overlaying marijuana in the United States thanks to the Schedule 1 status of marihuana under the Controlled Substances Act. A Westlaw search quickly reveals that over the past year federal courts across the country have reached varying decisions on this or similar issues. For instance, courts in Texas and Oklahoma have held that, under certain circumstances, the Second Amendment protects marijuana users right to own and purchase firearms, while courts in Alabama and Mississippi have held the opposite.

Hunter Biden's lawyers this week claimed a pretrial diversion agreement that would allow him to avoid prosecution for illegally buying a gun is still "valid and binding." David Weiss, who filed the gun charge in June as the U.S. attorney for Delaware and has since been appointed as a special counsel charged with investigating Biden, rejected that claim in no uncertain terms yesterday, saying "the now-withdrawn diversion agreement, by its own terms, is not in effect."
