A Missouri law prohibiting state and local police from enforcing certain federal gun laws has already undermined drug and weapons investigations, the U.S. Department of Justice argued in documents filed Wednesday in Cole County Circuit Court.
As part of an ongoing lawsuit set for a hearing this afternoon, the Justice Department is asking Cole County Judge Daniel Green to block the "Second Amendment Preservation Act," a law approved by the state legislature in May and signed by Gov. Mike Parson.
Among its provisions, the law says law enforcement agencies will face $50,000 fines if they "infringe" on Missourians' Second Amendment rights. |

Round three of the debate concerning Baldwin becoming a Second Amendment sanctuary headlined the Village Boards monthly meeting Aug. 11.
Ive gotten more phone calls, texts or emails on this issue than any other, said trustee Austin Van Someren. A lot for and a lot against.
Village residents who spoke questioned the why?
Your primary focus should be on municipal issues, not political manifestation movements, said Ellen Olson, addressing the Board.
Said former President Willy Zevenbergen: Im not here for or against it, but this is a political quagmire. Its not a position a Board should take action on. |

State senators voted Wednesday to repeal the state's pistol purchase permit requirement.
Current state law requires people who want to buy a handgun to get a permit from their county sheriff's office. The sheriff performs a background check on the applicant.
Gun rights supporters have advocated for the repeal for years, saying it's duplicative because there's now a national background check system, NICS.
Sen. Chuck Edwards, R-Henderson, said the additional permit requirement infringes on gun owners rights. |

The North Carolina state Senate on Wednesday voted to approve legislation that would allow residents to bypass the longstanding requirement to obtain a permit from the local sheriff in order to purchase a handgun.
While Republicans were successful in passing the bill in a 27-20 party line vote, the measure is expected to be vetoed by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, who has repeatedly signaled his support for additional gun control measures and implementing more restrictions on gun sales. |

San Franciscos district attorney on Wednesday sued three online retailers for selling ghost guns, untraceable firearms that can be made from do-it-yourself kits, part of an intensifying nationwide effort to stem the flood of deadly homemade weapons into American cities.
In a civil complaint filed in California Superior Court, District Attorney Chesa Boudin accused the companies G.S. Performance, BlackHawk Manufacturing Group and MDX Corporation of marketing a range of products in the state that furnish buyers with parts and accessories that can be quickly assembled into a functional firearm. |

The proposed Ordinance No. 21-10 prohibits firearms, ammunition, and components in county owned or operated buildings, parks, and recreation or community centers. Though there is an exemption for firearms in private vehicles, they must be in a container or compartment, not carried while occupying the vehicle. There is also no exemption for concealed handgun permit holders. Because this ban includes components, citizens may find themselves in legal trouble for accidentally entering one of these gun-free zones with something as simple as a shell casing forgotten in a pocket or accidentally left in view in a vehicle. |

Alarming reports are emerging from Afghanistan that Taliban insurgents now controlling the capital city of Kabul are collecting weapons from civilians should underscore why so many Americans fight to protect their Second Amendment rights.
Reuters broke the news that an unidentified Taliban official justified the gun sweep with this explanation: We understand people kept weapons for personal safety. They can now feel safe. We are not here to harm innocent civilians.
It is not reassuring that the report came at the same time The Sun was reporting, The Talibans reign of terror has begun as fighters are reportedly going door-to-door with a kill list and women face torture & execution under brutal new rules. |

On Monday throughout Kabul, teams of Taliban terrorists started going door-to-door searching for our former allies, young girls and, of course, personally owned firearms.
Our allies were disappeared. Their fate was sealed. Some have been shot, hung and beaten to death. Their bodies usually turn up on a dusty road several days after they were taken for their families to bury.
The girls including many under 12 are forced to marry Taliban terrorists. Thats rape. Today, the streets are completely devoid of females of any age. |

You may have heard the quote, When seconds count, police are only a few minutes away.
This may come as a surprise to some, but the police are not required to save you or anyone else from danger. The truth is, people are responsible for protecting themselves and their family. Police may respond and may intervene if 911 is dialed, but what happens until they arrive? Bad things, some- times ... but they dont have to. |

It's been a year since Kenosha prosecutors charged Kyle Rittenhouse with killing two people and wounding a third during unrest that followed the police shooting of Jacob Blake.
Since then the case and its characters have provided a constant stream of intrigue, outrage and propaganda, in both mainstream and niche conservative media outlets where he has been portrayed as a patriot and symbol of run rights as ell as a self-defense hero and boy-next-door.
Rittenhouse, now 18, faces five felonies, a misdemeanor and a curfew ticket from the events of Aug. 25. Using an AR-15-type rifle, he killed Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, Anthony Huber, 26, and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz. His lawyers say he acted in lawful self- defense. |

Prosecutors said video evidence supports the defense's claim of self-defense.
They released the following statement on Wednesday on their decision not to move forward on the murder charges.
"Prosecutors met personally with Jesus Maldonado's mother and sister to share our concerns and answer any questions.
Witnesses on different sides of this incident provided differing statements that are not split along the lines of what side of the fight they were on. After an in depth independent review of the evidence, prosecutors concluded the charge had to be dismissed because it couldn't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt." |

Carol Anderson is the Charles Howard Candler professor of African American Studies at Emory University. Her latest book is The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America.
Anderson says when she looks at the Second Amendment, she focuses on how the fear of an uprising of enslaved people drove the creation of the amendment. You had in the Virginia constitutional ratification amendment, Patrick Henry and George Mason arguing that the control of a militia that James Madison had put into the Constitution would leave slaveholders defenseless because you could not trust the federal government to organize the militia and send the militia down if there was a massive slave revolt, she says. |

The Mexican government announced a lawsuit earlier this month against several high-profile U.S. gun manufacturers.
Mexico accuses the U.S. companies of negligent practices it claims are driving gun violence in Mexico by arming drug cartels with military grade weapons.
Put aside for a moment that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act likely bars the lawsuit, or that these companies are not responsible for any lax enforcement of gun laws in either nation. |
