What does it mean to stand your ground?

The answer depends on the context in which this question is made.

As children, our parents probably told us to stand ground against bullies and other miscreants.

In the workplace, to stand your ground means remaining true to personal ideas and suggestions, even when these might prove unpopular.

People for and against a proposed shooting range in Greene County came out to a public hearing held by the Planning Commission Wednesday night. More than 200 came out to participate and get information. The crowd was about evenly split on a requested special use permit needed by the applicant, Lyle Durrer.

Durrer says the gun range could keep $600,000 - $800,000 in the county each year. Opponents worry about safety concerns and noise issues for neighbors.

In a lengthy answer that also touched on the centerpiece of his campaign his plan to end illegal immigration the billionaire real estate developer said he would build the greatest wall that youve ever seen.

And rest assured, it wont be an eye sore, Trump assured the crowd. If they call it the Trump Wall, it has to be beautiful, he said. He also touched on gun rights, saying, Im a big Second Amendment person. Big.

Another member of the audience expressed concern that his website only had one detailed policy position, his immigration plan. Could he offer any other specific proposals?

With that stipulation in place, might it be possible to have a discussion that would be considered reasonable and compelling were the number of dead caused by any means other than guns? Is it possible to take stock of the handgun killings in the United States and at least agree that, if for no other reason than that the number is by far greater than it is anywhere else in the developed world, we should be looking for ways to reduce the killing?

The school board also discussed Michigan laws concerning concealed pistol licenses and the lack of regulations pertaining to prohibiting pistols in an open carry manner.

Basically, the laws state that you cant carry a concealed pistol (in a school), but it does not prohibit open carry, Valentine said.

Valentine urged the district to consider a policy pertaining to open carry.

I would strongly urge you, it is crucial, that you allow any person with an open carry in to check in to the office, but they can not go beyond that, he said. You are not impinging on their Second Amendment rights, but do have the ability to say they can not go beyond the office. The student or teacher can be called to the office.

I say this as both a firearm enthusiast and an advocate for strong firearm regulation. It is becoming evident that there is a point when we as a society are just going to have to accept that 3D printed weapons are not going to disappear behind walls of legislation. Will that point be when entire guns can easily be 3D printed and constructed at home? Because it is pretty evident at this point that 3D printable firearms will be here soon, and both sides of the controversial issue are going to have to stop chipping away at each others platforms and start a real conversation about what kind of society we will have when they get here.

Right now White House officials are booking flights to Mexico and theyre not bringing back souvenirs.

Theyre on their way to the UN Small Arms Conference, to be held in Mexico City on August 24 2015.

And theyre planning to bring back the framework for a global gun control regime.

Its important that you contact your Senators right now and tell them to vote NO on any agreement reached at the Mexico UN conference.

When it was announced Monday that the District of Columbia had agreed to pay $75,000 in legal bills to the Second Amendment Foundation for its win in the Palmer case, SAF founder Alan Gottlieb made an observation that should have caused shudders among anti-gun municipal politicians everywhere.

Quoted by the Washington Free Beacon, Gottlieb said about the settlement, I wish the District of Columbia City Council members had to pay the $75,000 out of their own pockets instead of making the taxpayers cough it up. If they had to pay the legal bills themselves these unconstitutional laws would never get passed.

Gun stores across Maine are reporting a spike in sales, ahead of a change in the state concealed carry law this October.

"It's all because of the new law," said John Reid, owner of JT Reid's in Auburn. "More people will be carrying."

This fall, gun owners in Maine will no longer be required to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. They may still apply for one, but it is no longer required. The safety course that had previously been required will also be optional.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts has no problem with the second amendment right to bear arms.

He just wants to extinguish any chance to publicly own flamethrowers in his city before a small spark can become a full-blown blaze: literally and figuratively.

After seeing media reports about a Warren-based company that is now producing flamethrowers available for public purchase, he quickly proposed a resolution at the Aug. 11 City Council meeting that would ban the storage, use and possession of flamethrowers in the city of Warren.

The first reading of the resolution passed unanimously.

The Supreme Court of Missouri on Tuesday ruled [opinion, PDF] that a statute prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms does not violate the Missouri Constitution's right to bear arms. The appellant, Santonio McCoy, was convicted under Section 571.070.1(1) [text] making it illegal for offenders convicted of prior felonies to possess firearms and appealed arguing it violated the Missouri Constitution's right to bear arms as provided by Article 1, Section 23 [text].

Ed.: The controlling version of the MO constitution in this case was prior to the recent RKBA amendment.

Gun control advocates are fond of the word loophole, and if you ask them, they will tell you that U.S. gun laws are full of them.

What they mean by a loophole appears to be anything in a law that doesnt completely prohibit access to, or possession of firearms, including intentionally included limits on a laws reach.

A much better outcome would have been achieved had the homeowner simply watched as the pair of burglars ran away, had not pursued them, had not shot at them as they ran, and had then called the police.

Even that outcome would have been far from pleasant, but, in relative terms, it would have represented a vast improvement over where he finds himself now.

Regal Theaters Checking Purses, Bags to Ensure Law-Abiding Citizens Unarmed

Regal theaters have said, backpacks and bags of any kind will be subject to searches for theater goers safety. At the same time, The Wrap reports the theater chain admits their policy is not without flaws.

Of course, those flaws will result in law-abiding citizens paying a price for being unarmeda price that those denying the exercise of Second Amendment rights are largely immune from paying.

But this is the path society goes down when businesses begin denying the natural rights of their patrons. First, they deny the rights of law-abiding citizens and then, when criminals ignore the denial, they punish law-abiding citizens by searching their purses, their bags, and their backpacks.

Preventing Gun Violence Through Effective Messaging is the public relations guide for anti-gun lobbyists and advocates. The more accurate title would have been, Anti-Gun Hate Speech for Beginners.

Secretly produced in 2012 for New York City Mayor Michael Bloombergs Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) lobby and its allies, it was recently discovered by gun rights supporters. The gun-ban talking points manual is filled with malicious lies about guns and gun owners, along with instructions for how the manuals readers should disseminate those lies to the public.
