Goodman: This is an example of where an issue bubbles up from our grassroots. Weve been working on gun safety not gun control for Florida for the past three or four years. Weve worked the past two years on both campus carry and open carry, and have been able to beat those against the most powerful lobby in this state, the National Rifle Association.
...
Were asking for two things: Universal, expanded background checks for the state of Florida; and a ban on assault weapons, specifically the type used in the Pulse shooting that includes large clips of ammunition. |

Getting a gun is getting easier. We discovered private sellers on social media trying to either trade their guns or sell them for money. Also, it's not illegal.
Everyone we talked to seemed concerned over the situation because practically anyone can offer to buy that gun.
"They're probably doing it unlicensed, unwarranted, unsupervised," said Fort Myers resident David Dubouse.
He doesn't like guns, doesn't own guns, and hates what they're capable of, but Peter Babock wouldn't take your second amendment rights away.
"I would not deny anybody the right to own a gun as long as it was done legally," he said.
The law says it's legal to sell firearms on social media. |

It makes a world of difference who you vote for: a self-centered business tycoon or a political liar. Although you may disagree with Donald Trumps brashness, many of his statements have value unlike those of the biased media whose goal is to destroy his character.
Hillary Clinton lied about Benghazi and emails. And we certainly don't need another Clinton or Obama lover in the White House. Nor do we need higher taxes or prohibitions on the Second Amendment. The truth is, politicians from both aisles are panicked that if Trump succeeds, they could be out of their cushy jobs. |

On August 18, Under Armour confirmed they were ending sponsorship of Sarah Bowmar, wife of Josh Bowmar, the American hunter who recently made news by killing a black bear with a spear in Alberta.
Breitbart News reported that Josh Bowmar affixed a GoPro camera to a spear and videoed himself hunting bear in dense wilderness in northern Alberta. The Edmonton Journal reported that Alberta officials condemned Bowmars hunt on August 15, describing it as archaic and unacceptable. And they asked fish and wildlife officers to investigate details of the hunt to see if Bowmar did anything illegal.

In his Aug. 14 Letter to the Editor, John Stiegelmeyer said, "If Hillary Clinton is elected president, the Second Amendment would be in peril and should be a worry for all law-abiding gun owners." It appears that Stiegelmeyer is in as much a dire need of reading the Constitution as the candidate whose words he tried to defend. |

The leader of the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has spoken out in favor of people arming themselves with guns and self-defense devices following a series of violent attacks last month.
The anti-immigrant AfD has won growing popular support in Germany due in part to Europe's migrant crisis, which has seen more than 1 million refugees arrive over the past year, and it now has seats in eight of Germany's 16 state assemblies.
After two Islamist attacks and a shooting rampage by a mentally unstable teenager last month, Germans are on edge and the AfD is expected to make a strong showing in votes next month in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. |

Breitbart News recently pointed out that an expert who works at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) is sounding the alarm about firearm possession amongst the elderly. Perhaps not coincidentally, that expert also claims that firearm ownership is most common in America for those aged 50 or older.
Dr. Shannon Frattaroli of the Bloomberg School told New America Media that the typical gun control focus on crime and mass shootings leaves out the risks of firearm possession among older Americans. [A]ny conversation about guns has to include a conversation [about] gun ownership among older adults, she said. Theres definitely more to be done on that issue in the United States.

What could be the the final NorthEast Arms Collector Association's Arms Fair at the Saratoga Springs City Center will fire off this Saturday and Sunday.
David Petronis, presenter of the semi-annual trade show, has been told by the City Center that no dates were available for gun shows beyond August 2016.
But Petronis, who says he can't find a venue large enough to replace the City Center, is not surrendering. He is pinning his hopes on state Sen. Kathy Marchione who plans to attend the show from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. She will ask gun enthusiasts to sign a petition to persuade the City Center to reverse its decision to no longer host the event. The petition is also online at Marchione's website. |

Its a statistic that is sometimes hard for women to hear; nearly 40 percent of women in Alaska experience rape or sexual assault.
When it comes to protecting yourself, Tara Lampert can probably help you out.
For Lampert, selling Damsel in Defense protects at places like health and wellness expos is a second job.
The women's studies professor at UAA says getting into it just kind made sense for her.
Being able to offer something, not only just a shoulder and an ear but hey take this pepper spray with you, it doesnt hurt to have it, said Lampert at an expo Friday afternoon at the Denaina Center. |

The Guilford County District Attorneys Office has determined that the death of a man who was shot multiple times last month was justified.
Nathaniel Anthony Brown, 27, of Greensboro, was shot while robbing a man on July 13, said Howard Neumann, chief assistant district attorney. Neumann said Brown was with another man at the time of the shooting that he described as a co-conspirator. Dujuan Marquis Cole, 26, of 15-D Laurel Terrace, is now facing charges in the robbery. |

Its embarrassing how shamelessly the Washington Post is shilling for Hillary Clinton nowadays.
On Monday, the Posts fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, said that the NRA's new TV ad is wrong, in claiming that Clinton doesnt believe in your right to keep a gun at home for self-defense.
Kessler took his shot at the NRA after we outlined how the Posts editors were disingenuous, at best, in their attempt to fool the public into believing that Clinton is anything but a staunch gun control extremist. |

Two quantities that are important for small arms design: pressure and bolt thrust. The latter well discuss in a later installment, but today well discuss pressure, and why it is important for both the downrange performance of a bullet, and the design of a firearms mechanism.
In physics terms, pressure is simply the average force applied perpendicular to a surface, per unit of area of that surface. The best way to convey this meaning is to think about a balloon. Taking a balloon out of the package, its limp and unstressed. However, fill it with air and the pressure inside increases. Fill it too much and it pops! |

And it appears we have to remind De that while owning a firearm is a constitutional right, becoming a doctor is not. Becoming a doctor is a privilege to those who dedicate themselves to that career path who also have access to the substantial means to pay for the education to do so.
Even with the highly selective and strenuous lifestyle that is necessary for people to become doctors, medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (behind only heart disease and cancer), accounting for more than 250,000 fatalities a year. This is almost ten times the number of annual deaths attributable to firearms, including the some 20,000 that occur by suicide, despite the rigorous requirements described by De. |

While some of his prior comments on the topic give his critics pause, his activities during a campaign stop in North Carolina on Thursday has earned him some Second Amendment credibility.
According to recent reports, Trump made an appearance in Iredell County, meeting with a group of local law enforcement officers while he was in the area.
During that visit, Sheriff Darren Campbell confirmed the brash billionaire showed off his marksmanship by firing an M-4 rifle at targets in an adjacent shooting range.
Ive got to say, Campbell said of the experience, this man can shoot. |
