Michigan State Police are searching for an assault rife that was stolen from a trooper's vehicle near Detroit's Eastern Market.

It happened near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and Riopelle Street.

The officer stopped at Louie's Ham & Corned Beef for lunch and when he came back out, the rear passenger window was smashed and the weapon was gone.

Louisiana's treasurer is usually focused on how to get the best deal for taxpayers when the state turns to Wall Street to float bonds for roads, bridges and other public works.

But last week, John Schroder, an Army veteran and one-time narcotics detective, used his office to stand up for gun rights by persuading a state commission to banish Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc. from a $100 million debt sale -- a punishment for their stances on firearms. He said he shouldn't have any trouble finding banks willing to step in for the two biggest underwriters, who between them handle more than one-fourth of all state and local government bond offerings.

I see a lot of TV ads for Maura Sullivan trying to get the citizens of New Hampshire to send her to Washington. Recently she is said to be from Illinois and that might be a good place for her to be. With her anti-gun attitudes that dont seem to have helped her home state much why would we want to copy them? A quick internet check shows Illinois to be the least friendly state for a gun owner to live so it should be the safest state for a non-gun owner to live.

Economists from Kentuckys Transylvania University argue that decreased gun production is responsible for the drop in homicides among black men experienced during Americas boom in private gun ownership.

The economists, Geoffrey Williams and his colleague W. Alan Bartley, claim a rise in homicides among black men was the result of an influx of cheap handguns and that crime descreased as the production of such weapons tapered off.

Following on the success of our previous affordable firearm roundup, where we focused on 10 AR-15s found for sale under $500, heres a look at another hot segment of the market: concealed-carry guns.

With a growing number of concealed-carry permit holders in the country, the demand for personal-defense pistols continues to rise, and manufacturers across the world are stepping up to fill orders. However, many of these models are potentially out of reach for many budget-minded consumers, and Shooting Illustrated often receives complaints that some of the guns we cover are far out of reach of the average firearm enthusiast.

Iraq has legalized the buying, selling, and possession of handguns and semi-automatic rifles. Since the end of the Hussein regime in 2003, the countrys illegal weapons market has been saturated with looted guns from police stations and military bases. Buyers ranged from jihadists to citizens seeking self-defense in a lawless environment. The latest law seeks to curb the illegal market and introduce government oversight through regulation, where authorization and identity cards will connect individuals to owned weapons.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. JAMES MADISON
