King wrote the 4th Circuit's 10-4 majority opinion in February 2017 that upheld a Maryland state ban on assault rifles.

"Put simply, we have no power to extend Second Amendment protection to the weapons of war," King wrote.

The following month, King and all his colleagues on the 4th Circuit weighed the Trump administration's effort to restrict travel into the U.S. from six Muslim-majority countries.

In 2013, I stood next to then-Vice President Joe Biden and then-President Barack Obama in the White House Rose Garden after the Senate failed to pass background checks legislation championed by Sen. Pat Toomey and others on a bipartisan basis after Sandy Hook. In the years since, nearly 40,000 lives have been lost to gun violence every single year thats more than 300,000 Americans dead. Meanwhile, Congress has failed to pass a single significant gun violence prevention bill.

North Carolinas Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper is expected to veto a bill that would have repealed the states Pistol Purchase Permit law despite the bill being backed by the N.C. Sheriffs Association, who called the law duplicative.

Pointing to what it described as the irrationality of the ban, the National Rifle Association has urged a federal appeals court to reject a 2018 Florida law that prevents people under age 21 from buying guns.

NRA attorneys last week filed a 61-page brief arguing that the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals should find that the law, passed after the mass shooting at Parklands Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, violates Second Amendment and equal-protection rights.

Department of Excuses Politicians Give Us the Same Wrong Answers About Guns

Some politicians want to confiscate guns from civilians. I might be talking about what happened half a century ago in Cuba. Gun confiscation happened again a decade ago in Venezuela. It happened again last week when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. The excuses are the same, and the results are more government violence and oppression. Today in the United States, the excuses are too glaring to ignore.

The Second Amendment Protection Act bars state and local police from working with the feds to enforce any laws, rules, orders or actions that violate the Second Amendment rights of Missourians. Any officer who deprives Missouri citizens of their right to pack a gun could be liable for $50,000 in damagesincluding cops. Although it doesnt go into effect until the end of August, advocates, local police and federal officials have said its already hurting shooting investigations in a state where they are rampant.

Its hideous, Sherry said of the law. They talk so much about the rights of gun owners, as if non-gun owners and the rest of the population have no right to feel safe.

A Pennsylvania woman will not face any criminal charges for fatally stabbing her lover last year in Berks County as her actions were those of self-defense, authorities said.

The woman, solely identified as the paramour of Terance M. Myers Sr., "was reasonable in her belief that she was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury due to Myers actions of advancing and lunging towards her with a knife," Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said.

So Hercules contacted me. He wanted to talk about guns and freedom. Go figure. Hollywood must love this guy!

When he popped onto my screen for a video interview (you can watch it at A1F.com and on NRA Publications YouTube channel), Kevin Sorbo looked exactly like the actor I remembered from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and so many other films, TV shows and commercials. The same jutting jaw, disarming smile and long, straight hair framing a big, beaming face. Behind him was his sword from Hercules.

Beginning Sept. 1, most Texans will have the option to carry a handgun in public without going through training or having to obtain a permit under House Bill 1927, the Firearm Carry Act of 2021.

The House approved HB 1927, 82-62, and the Senate passed it with a 17-13 vote. The bill allows Texas residents, 21 and over, to carry handguns without obtaining a license as long as they are not prohibited from owning a gun by state or federal laws. Current law requires citizens to obtain a license which includes submitting fingerprints, completing a four to six-hour training course and passing a written and shooting proficiency test.

Beginning Sept. 1, a new state law takes effect that allows many Texans to carry a firearm without a concealed handgun license. Its the first time since Reconstruction that Texans have been allowed to openly carry a holstered gun in public, unless they are a licensed peace officer.

Another provision of the law has received much less publicity enhanced criminal penalties for those who are charged with unlawfully possessing a gun.

Anyone who meets any of several conditions cannot possess firearms, despite the loosened restrictions on those without a history of violent offenses.

The DA can confirm that it has received more than 113 000 signatures rejecting the draft Firearms Control Amendment Bill which, among other contentious aspects, seeks to remove self-defense as a valid reason to own a firearm.

The DA will today submit these signatures to Parliament to ensure that the voice of every South African who signed this petition is heard. We thank everyone who signed the petition and submitted objections against this draconian piece of legislation.

Texans have had the right to carry a gun in public since 1995, when then-Gov. George W. Bush signed concealed carry into law.

More gun-friendly legislation followed over the years. In 2007, the Texas Motorist Protection Act made it legal for people without a handgun license to keep a firearm in their vehicle. The state Legislature authorized guns on state university campuses and open carry in 2015. But you still needed to obtain a license to be able to take your gun outside your home or vehicle.

That's no longer the case come Sept. 1 after lawmakers passed Senate Bill 1927, which allows anyone who can legally own a firearm to carry it in a holster in public, for the first time since Reconstruction.

The National Rifle Associations Institute for Legislative Action is warning of more potential shortages of ammunition since the Joe Biden administration is banning the importation of Russian ammo.

The organization confirmed word has come from Bidens Department of State that a ban on importation of Russian ammunition is looming.

The federal department said, New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial.

The policy appears to prohibit the importation of both firearms and ammo, but those firearms already were heavily restricted, which means the new policy primarily will affect ammunition that originates in Russia.

Media outlets love reporting the results of polling on hot-button policy issues, but they rarely tell you if the people supporting proposed legislation (especially when it's restrictive) are the same people who would be affected by it. That matters in several important ways, not least of which is that getting a law passed is not the same thing as getting people to obey. Nowhere does that matter more than in the heated debate over gun laws.

The public comment period for the proposed rule-change expired last month. BATF is set to draft its final proposed regulation this fall. Once posted, it can be adopted 60 days later.

But Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and a coalition of 20 Republican state Attorneys General say BATFs move is unconstitutional and should be reversed immediately.

By sidestepping Congress, BATF has far exceeded its authority as a federal agency, attempting to regulate unfinished metal parts, Schmitt said in a statement that accompanied a letter from the 20 AGs to BATF Acting Director Marvin Richardson.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens]
