Lord Dawson told Ronald Aldred, Charles Clark and Stephen Henderson:
"You have pleaded guilty to what I can only describe as a most extraordinary tale of abduction, extortion, and assault fuelled by the vicious background of high-level illegal drug dealing.
"In all my years in this court, I have never come across such a series of criminal acts. It is really like something out of a 1930s Hollywood gangster movie."

All it took for the police to consider this man "an imminent threat" was the word of neighbors.
They "moved quickly", confiscated his firearms and ammunition, arrested him, charged him -- and released all details to the newspaper.
Think T.I.P.S.
This guy "accused of threatening" may very well have threatened.
But he may not have done any such thing, too.
And there's no mention in this report of any EVIDENCE other than what people said.
Think about that very carefully. |

Because this report will disappear in a matter of a day or two, full text is provided. Note that he's "sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on each count against him." One count is merely about possession of firearms. His total sentence is 150 months. ... ------- Man sentenced on weapons charges By Becky Malkovich
The subject of a COMIT Drug Task Force investigation was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison Thursday.
James R. Kreher, 42, of Piopolis, was sentenced by Judge J. Phil Gilbert in U.S. District Court on gun charges.
The charges stem from an investigation by COMIT, which, after receiving information regarding Kreher, contacted the ATF and obtained a federal search warrant for his Piopolis home.
The search warrant was executed on April 25, 2001, and agents with COMIT, the AFT [sic], the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and the McLeansboro Police Department found a cache of weapons and drugs at Kreher's home.
Among the more than 100 weapons found in the home were three sawed-off shotguns and an AK-47 automatic weapon.
In addition to the weapons, agents also discovered 11 marijuana plants, finished methamphetamine product and drug paraphernalia.
In state court, Kreher was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful production of cannabis and unlawful use of weapons.
Kreher was released on bond after an initial appearance in federal court. However, he later violated the conditions of his bond and was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals.
He was detained until his time of sentencing Thursday.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Carr prosecuted the case and told the Judge that the AK-47 was found with a clip with 30 rounds of ammunition.
"I knew a few of them guns was illegal," Kreher told Judge Gilbert. "I didn't intend to hurt anyone. I never used them or nothing."
Kreher was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on each count against him, to be served concurrently. |

TIME MAGAZINE'S REPORT IS SURPRISINGLY SUPPORTIVE...

"Belgium could soon have one of the world's strictest gun-control laws on its books."
"A bill recently approved by the Council of Ministers would require all firearms in Belgium to be registered - even if they're just passing through - and prohibit their sale except where specifically authorised."
"If approved, the reform would constitute the biggest overhaul of gun-control laws here since 1933."
"Under the plan, all firearms would require registration, regardless whether they are manufactured here or abroad."
"Private citizens applying for registration would have to reveal what they intend to do with the weapon. The only possible options would be for sport or for hunting. Current classifications like 'defence guns' and 'war guns' are to be eliminated."
"But authorisation will not be given unless those living in the same household give their permission."
"The Belgian bill would also ban the sale of arms on the open market, including over the Internet. Guns could only be sold under the direction of the proper authorities, like the police and notaries."
"If Parliament approves the bill this autumn, the law would take effect next year, Lescrenier said. Current gun owners will then have up to six months to comply with the new requirements." |

It also alleged that five deputies were found by the city Police Board to be unfit to carry a gun or wear a badge as security guards because of past arrest records."
"And, the newspaper alleged that two high-ranking deputies drive city-owned cars, which are at their disposal around the clock, and still get $140 a month for car allowance." |
