"Banning guns from the workplace seems like the obvious way to prevent workplace violence. At least that is the policy at ConocoPhillips and many other companies. ..." ...
"Gun-free zones may appear like the solution to violence, but consider an analogy: Suppose a criminal is stalking you or your family. Would you feel safer putting a sign in front of your home saying, 'This Home Is a Gun-Free Zone'? The answer seems pretty clear. Since law-abiding citizens will obey the signs, such 'safe zones' simply mean that criminals have a lot less to worry about. Indeed, international data as well as data from across the United States indicate that criminals are much less likely to attack residents in their homes when they suspect that the residents own guns." ... |

"'The circumstances of workplace homicides differ substantially from those portrayed by the media and from homicides in the general population. For the most part, workplace homicides are not the result of disgruntled workers who take out their frustrations on co-workers or supervisors, or of intimate partners and other relatives who killed loved ones in the course of a dispute; rather, they are mostly robbery-related crimes.' --National Institute for Occupational Safety And Health"

Lancaster police will soon be better armed with new pistols, and high-powered rifles that can pierce body armor.
Last month police found body armor while they hunted a shooting suspect.
They're seeing more people involved in crimes dressed in this kind of gear.
That's one reason a new grant will help buy high-powered rifles.
The $35,000 grant also buys new radar equipment, and computers for patrol cars.
Chief Hugh White said some criminals are better armed than they are.
White said nearly all the equipment the department buys is purchased through grants. |
