"Jews for Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) approached Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) with a view toward SAF taking over the financially foundering JPFO. Many in JPFO were not pleased. There has been some badmouthing of the Second Amendment Foundation and its leader Alan Gottlieb lately. Having known Alan for decades and having served for many years on SAFs board of trustees, I feel compelled to offer a word or two."
"It was Gottliebs vision decades ago which, through SAF, funded much of the scholarly legal research published in respected law journals which today is recognized as authoritatively repudiating many 'gun control' arguments. ..." ... |

"You may be aware that Ive long been a fan of the organization Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership."
"JPFO has long been way out front in the gun rights fight ... [and] has done some great work. Since the death of JPFO founder, Aaron Zelman, JPFO has been struggling and floundering."
"Ive also long worked comfortably with the twin organizations of Second Amendment Foundation and the [CCRKBA]. Both were founded and have been operated successfully by Alan Gottlieb."
"Now, there is talk about some association or partnership between JPFO and SAF. Critics claim that SAF is trying to 'take over' JPFO and will effectively neuter it."
"In my view, SAF is offering to rescue JPFO from swirling down the drain ..." ... |

"Though gun owners are perceived as being single-issue voters, there is a great deal gun owners have in common with mainstream America; shared values perhaps more than any other demographic. With this in mind, should handgun safety instructors offer a Citizen CPR Course as part of their program for a better voter turnout in the mid-term?"
"My vote is yes. The messaging which is in part what Americans are waiting to hear from someone on 2014 issues can be organized from the liberty community. When 10 million adults decide to become 10 million gun owners, its time to develop a path to reaching the balance of the electorate. ..." ... |

"Through stunning advances in technology, guns are becoming more accurate and deadlier. They are also becoming safer. Crazy as it might seem, gun-rights activists are excited about the former, but opposed to the latter."
"The gun-obsessed might admire computerized, laser-based rifle scopes that turn amateurs into master snipers at 1,200 yards, but offer them 'smart gun' technology that limits a firearm's use to its rightful owner and they get surly."
"Apparently, gun lovers think such a safety feature might become mandatory and, as we all know, anything mandatory constitutes a threat to their absolute Second Amendment rights to bear whatever guns they wish, public safety be damned." ... |

"In 2013, the Maryland General Assembly passed and Governor OMalley signed into law a landmark new gun violence prevention measure, the Firearms Safety Act, which is already saving lives in our state. We believe it should be a model for the nation.
Just this month a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the gun lobby to overturn the laws ban on assault weapons and high capacity gun magazines meaning that these weapons of mass destruction are no longer legal for sale in our state."
"And statewide in Maryland, gun deaths have gone down 23% in the first seven months of 2014 compared to the same period last year. ..." ... |

"Pro Second Amendment forces were up in arms when doctors started questioning and demanding patients give up whether or not they had any firearms in the homeeven when it had nothing to do with the treatment. Well, good news for the defenders of the Second Amendment, because in late July 2014 the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit gave the doctors a lesson in medical procedure. Specifically, the court ruled doctors do not have the right to ask patients if they own a firearm when unnecessary to the patients care." ... |

"The topic of the militarization of law enforcement has come to the fore of late, with the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and the hyper-aggressive police response to community outrage about the shooting. Even the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), so fawningly supportive of unlimited government power as to claim no right to armed resistance against a government that rounds up citizens to be sent to concentration camps on the basis of race or religion, has complained about the militarized police response in Ferguson. Odd, given the fact that their executive director Josh Horwitz has also warned us to 'not put too much on the militarization of law enforcement.'." ... |

Yet it remains glaringly obvious that we can and should do more to combat one of the greatest threats to human life of any color right here at home gun violence. Though it is certain that racist cops and citizens would find another weapon for expressing their vitriolic hate in the absence of a loaded gun, we dont have to continue making execution so easy." ... |

"The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has long been viewed as the 'red-headed stepchild' of federal law enforcement, and now a veteran member U.S. House is attempting to disband the corrupt and unaccountable rogue agency.""For more than three decades, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has gotten a reputation as something of a cowboy operation or even a rogue agency over such incidents as Waco and Ruby Ridge, and operations Fast and Furious and 'Fearless.' Now, veteran Wisconsin Rep. "In Silvester v. Harris, No. 1:11-CV-2137 AWI SAB (ED Cal. 08/25/14), a federal trial court held that Penal Code sections 26815(a) and 27540(a), which require ten days between purchase and delivery of a firearm, are unconstitutional under the Second Amendment as to those who have already been previously cleared for weapons possession by reason of a previous firearm purchase or possession of a concealed weapon carry permit. The decision was stayed for 180 days and an appeal to the Ninth Circuit is probable."

"One of the many nuances that comes with purchasing a firearm in California is the 10 day waiting period. The liberal politicians created this time as a 'cool down' period in case the purchaser was thinking about doing something awful with the new weapon and also so a background check could be run. Why 10 days? Well it is arbitrary number made up by a politician, and realistically would not impact safety one bit if the wait was 9 days or 11 days. Also, if you already own a firearm is the 10 days really necessary? Btw, background checks are damn near instant these days." ... |

"A Georgia gun rights group is appealing a federal judge's decision allowing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to ban firearms at Lake Allatoona and other Corps-managed properties."
"U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy on Aug. 18 said he does not believe that a federal regulation restricting the use of firearms on Corps properties infringes on "the constitutionally enshrined right" of GeorgiaCarry.org or its members to defend themselves."
