Youve probably seen the above yellow Dont Tread on Me flag and its rattlesnake image. But you probably do not know what this famous American Revolution historical icon truly represents for Americans, why the snake is on it, and what Benjamin Franklins and Colonel Christopher Gadsdens contributions were. And have you noticed the 13 rattles on the tail? Well, I would like to share with you the flags origins, the meaning of its motto, and a brief history of why this important legacy should be accepted as a part of our heritage. This flag is a part of the factual period in our history when the United States was still fighting for independence from Great Britain. |

A federal court in Fort Worth on Thursday struck down a Texas prohibition that limited adults under 21 from carrying handguns.
Texas law bars most 18- to 20-year-olds in the state from obtaining a license to carry a handgun or carrying a handgun for self-defense outside their homes. Two plaintiffs, who fall within that age range, and the Firearms Policy Coalition Inc., filed a lawsuit against the state to challenge the statute. The suit says the Texas law prevented the plaintiffs from traveling with a handgun between Parker, Fannin and Grayson counties, where they lived, worked and went to school. |

The Hawaii Police Department has revised the permitting process for a license to carry concealed and unconcealed firearms following the Supreme Courts ruling on a landmark case out of New York.
The High Courts 6-3 decision in the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen on July 7 ruled that the state violated the complainants 14th Amendment right to carry a firearm for self-defense when it denied a pair of applicants their request.
The case centered around a persons right to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense under the Constitutions Second Amendment. |

A federal judge in Texas threw out the states ban on people between 18 and 20 years old from carrying handguns on Thursday in what appears to be the first major judicial decision since a landmark ruling on weapons rights by the U.S. Supreme Court in June.
The challenge to the Texas statute that bans young adults not in active military service from having handguns in public was filed in 2021 by the Firearms Policy Coalition, a gun-owners rights group. The group said the ban violated the U.S. Constitutions Second Amendment, which says states can organize militias and that the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. |

Its easy to mock House and Senate members for being out of touch with real America, but there is one topic that many are remarkably engaged on: guns.
Just shy of 21% of Congress own guns and thats just those who have publicly acknowledged packing heat. Its likely that far more are keeping their gun ownership private, according to a new analysis and survey.
According to the Pew Research Center, 110 members have said they own guns. |

Carnes has asked the Supreme Court to review his case, and Cato has filed an amicus brief in support of reversing the Eighth Circuits decision. Under the Eighth Circuits holding, anyone who has ever used a controlled substance even once can be permanently disarmed. The Second Amendment requires more.
The Second Amendment protects an individuals right to keep and bear arms and any attempt infringe on this right requires affirmative proof that such action is justified by the amendments text, history, and tradition. The importance of historical analysis was emphasized by the Court in its recent opinion in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. |

Attorney General Rob Bonta was in San Diego Thursday talking about gun violence, but his message was to the rest of the state: Be like San Diego.
Why? Red flag laws are what allows a court to temporarily take away someones firearm if they are potentially dangerous. San Diegans are taking advantage of this.
I've traveled to San Diego today to highlight the good work that is happening in this city," Bonta said. "That is helping us turn the tide
Bonta is praising San Diego's use of a red flag law called a gun violence restraining order, or GVRO. In the last five years, theres been 900 issued in the county.

Homemade firearm kits used to build "ghost guns" are now part of the same legal category as traditional firearms after a federal judge declined a gun advocacy group's request to pause the new regulations brought by President Joe Biden 's Justice Department.
The decision means the main components used to manufacture ghost guns will be assigned serial numbers and purchasers will be required to undergo background checks before they obtain components. Additionally, dealers of these components must be federally licensed to sell the kits, are required to keep sale records, and cannot sell unfinished gun frames and receivers alongside the tools used to complete them. |

When mulling over the question of whats the best caliber for self-defense, the .22 LR is not at the top of anyones list. However, carrying a .22 for self-defense isnt unreasonable for some shooters and some circumstancesand ammo makers have responded to that need.
The Federal Punch line of ammo spans many major self-defense calibers from 200-grain 10mm Auto on down to the 29-grain .22 LR, which was introduced in 2021. |

A man who police say killed another man during a road rage confrontation in Hialeah Wednesday has not been charged with a crime after telling police he shot the man in self-defense, police said. Hialeah police Sgt. Jose Torres said in an email to the Miami Herald that the suspected shooter who hasnt been named is cooperating with police while they investigate the incident as a Stand Your Ground case. Once a suspect claims Stand Your Ground, its up to the state to disprove a self-defense claim. Police identified the man who was killed as 60-year-old Juan Alberto Rocha Marrero. |

However, I fail to understand why an unconstitutional New York State law being overturned causes her to fear guns and their availability. The writer demonizes the AR-15 based on her limited experience during a couple of years in the Navy as a corpsman and having never served outside the United States down range. I also believe that law-abiding 18-year-olds should be afforded the right to own long guns, as many live in rural communities and have grown up hunting and fishing.
As a former New York State resident I can honestly state that the gun control laws in New York are extremely restrictive of residents Second Amendment rights. The law is even more restrictive for residents of New York City. |

And it is applications for these licenses that had skyrocketed. And by skyrocketed, I mean they sextupled from where they were in 2020.
That surge was, no doubt, influenced by concerns over soaring crime numbers and a general feeling among some residents that the city is in a state of chaos and lawlessness. Theres likely another factor as well: The city simplified the application process just before 2021 after gun advocacy groups sued the city, claiming the process was too long and cumbersome.
