"www.sportsmenforkerryedwards.com today announced the availability of an information resource for those researching John Kerrys history with gun control."

"John Kerry goes hunting. John Kerry goes trap shooting. John Kerry says that he supports hunters and the Second Amendment. What actions has Kerry taken on gun control? What is his voting record? Which lobby organizations support him and which ones do not?"

"Whether voting for Senate Bill 2619 which would outlaw virtually all hunting ammunition or cosponsoring Senate Bill 1431 which could outlaw many, commonly used hunting rifles, John Kerry has shown himself to be anything but the sportsmans friend."

"Disabled gun control activist Jim Brady weighed in Wednesday on Republican U.S. Senate nominee Alan Keyes' declaration that the U.S. Constitution grants private citizens the right to own and carry machine guns, calling the remarks an 'insane' call for a return to 'the Al Capone days.' "

-------
What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand, Mr. Brady?

And why is it do you think Al Capone reached such infamy as a criminal? Couldn't be because of Prohibition which gave government control of substances private citizens put in their bodies and created a profitable black market for alcohol, could it?

"Alan Keyes, the Maryland resident running for the Illinois Senate, said yesterday that machine guns should be legal."

"Not semiautomatic assault weapons, mind you -- the guns that were outlawed 10 years ago. Mr. Keyes is for legal machine guns, which came under extraordinary federal regulation in the 1930s after the guns were misused by another guy named Al -- Al Capone."

"The manufacture of new machine guns was banned under the McClure-Volkmer Act of 1986."

" 'The founding fathers did not intend us to live in a culture with police on every corner,' Petka told reporters. 'People should be able to defend themselves.' "

In other words, he supports government granted privileges, not rights. He wants to tell gun owners when, where and how they should exercise their "right" to keep and bear arms.

He seems to forget. A fundamental right is not the government's to grant or control.

"A proposal before the Washington County commissioners would make it illegal to fire a gun -- except in cases of self-defense or at a target range -- within the urban growth boundary. Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and fined as much as $100 or sent to jail for as many as 60 days, or both. However, such ordinance violations are enforced only if an officer witnesses the infraction."

"If passed, the ordinance is most likely to affect hunters. It would expand the county's Restricted Shooting District. Currently, hunting is allowed in unincorporated areas inside the urban growth boundary, as long as hunters hold licenses and tags and are not trespassing." ...

However, I was always taught that you don't have to love the truth, but you have to live by it. The three points I would like to make are frighteningly (to some) true, reasoned and refreshingly without emotion:

1. Good people with guns = less crime.

3. Only bad people with guns = a lot more crime.

"The argument that criminals will suddenly descend on hundreds of homes in a weapons-stealing frenzy is suspect at best. If, as many gun-rights proponents argue, criminals stay away from people who are armed, why would they chance crossing paths with a homeowner who has a firearm at the ready?"

OFCC reply:

"Ask any law enforcement officer if criminals want to risk facing ANY homeowner, armed or otherwise, and they will tell you 'no'. These same law enforcement experts will also say that criminals are well-known for casing their targets, figuring schedules for when they can expect the dwelling to be unoccupied. Criminals who want to steal guns are being aided by the Toledo City Paper."
