A shooting early Friday morning left a masked intruder dead on Madisons north side and has raised questions about whether the action by one of the homes residents to kill the intruder was justified under the states castle doctrine.
While it is a decision that will ultimately be made by the Dane County district attorney, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes indicated at a Friday morning news conference that it might apply to the shooting. |

A federal judge has struck down a Texas law preventing individuals aged 18 to 20 years from carrying handguns in public, in the first major court ruling on Second Amendment rights since the Supreme Court recognized a constitutional right to carry firearms in public for self-defense.
Previously, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit upheld the state law, but that was before the Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling. |

A federal judge ruled Thursday that a Texas law that restricted adults under 21 from carrying handguns was unconstitutional.
Texas state law has prohibited adults under the age of 21 from obtaining a concealed carry permit or carrying a handgun outside of their home, according to the Texas Tribune.
The Firearms Policy Coalition, a firearm rights nonprofit organization, filed a lawsuit on behalf of two plaintiffs who claimed that their constitutional rights were being infringed because they could not legally carry their firearms. |

Judge Mark Pittman ultimately found that based on the Second Amendments text, as informed by Founding-Era history and tradition, the Court concludes that the Second Amendment protects against this prohibition.
To the extent that Texass statutory scheme prohibits law-abiding 18-to-20-year-olds from carrying handguns for self-defense outside the home based solely on their age, this statutory scheme violates the Second Amendment, as incorporated against the States via the Fourteenth Amendment, Pittman said in his ruling (pdf). |

The University of Findlay Office of Campus Safety recently reminded the campus community that a new law regarding guns in Ohio went into effect over the summer and explained how it applies to them.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed the legislation into law on March 14 and it took effect in June. The new law allows people to carry concealed firearms with no training, background check, or permit. |

The Deerfield Police Department is strongly urging residents to adhere to strict gun safety and storage. To assist in the practice, the Department has made gun-locks available at no cost to Deerfield residents at the Police facility, 850 Waukegan Road, according to the Village's weekly e-newsletter.

The 1911 has been with us for more than a century. One would think that everything that could be done to this category of firearm has already been attempted. The new product development team at Kimber may disagree. Each year Kimber, in Troy, Alabama, pushes the aging platform further and further into the future while maintaining many of the attributes that have made it a classic. This latest evolution is the Scorpius, which is part of the Rapide family. The Scorpius combines time-tested features with new and interesting lines. The Scorpius begins as a full-size 1911 with a stainless steel framenothing too exotic about that. But thats about where the traditional lines end. |

A federal judge in Texas on Thursday struck down a state law barring adults under 21 from carrying handguns, ruling that the age limit violated the Second Amendment.
U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman said the Constitution didnt put an age restriction on the right to bear arms, meaning adults 18 to 20 shouldnt be prevented from carrying handguns outside the home.
The 23-page opinion leaned heavily on originalism, the conservative legal theory that judges should interpret the Constitution based on the way it was understood when it was written. |

This weekend marks Misississippis annual Second Amendment Tax Holiday.
As FOX13 found out, it just about makes the state stand alone.
In the past, we have had ten percent sales, and that doesnt do good, Danny Metcalf said.
Danny Metcalf owns a gunshop in Horn Lake. He said, while the tax break has brought in crowds in the past, he has never understood why. He said the bigger sales hes held in the past havent even brought in the crowds he sees on the Second Amendment Tax Holiday.
But, you have a seven percent off your sales tax, and its a boom, Metcalf said of the holiday weekend. |

Hunters were among the principal users of public lands when Congress imposed the tax 85 years ago, with the passage of the Pittman-Robertson Act. It seemed reasonable, then, to make them pay for their use of the public domain.
But as hunters have become an increasingly smaller slice of American gun owners, it seems reasonable now to ask if they should continue to benefit from a windfall largely financed by gun buyers who dont hunt. Nearly 19 million guns were sold in the United States last year, a number surpassed only in the previous year, when 21.8 million were sold. Most of these weapons will never be used to fell a deer or duck. More than a few will be used to shoot humans. |

Two new sickening billboards have appeared in Los Angeles and San Francisco featuring a hooded figure wearing sunglasses along with a menacing facial expression.
The Texas Miracle died in Uvalde. Dont move to Texas, the billboards disgustingly say, along with the slogan Dont mess with Texas crossed out, the Western Journal reported.
The ads appear to be a desperate move to slow the ongoing U-Haul trucks moving residents from the Golden State to the Lone Star state. |

Today our schools have an even graver responsibility, to protect their students from the violence of a mass shooter. Teachers are taught to direct their students to get under their desk; supposedly this action would protect them from a weapon of war? Why are these weapons even sold to the ordinary citizen?
For the first time in several years, the government has passed laws that touch on protecting our students but it is not enough. Parents are outraged that automatic weapons are readily available. The writers of the Second Amendment certainly never meant for any citizen to own weapons such as these. |

Key to understanding what the media gets wrong about gun violence in the District is race and racism, which Muhammad thinks is crucial for journalists to handle with nuance. In terms of gun violence, the vast majority of both victims and suspects are Blacknearly 90 percent, he said. But the additional context that is extremely important is that the vast majority of Black people are not involved in gun violence in D.C. |

As many people know, the latest restrictions passed by the New York State Legislature on those who have concealed carry weapon permits take effect on Sept. 1. Because of this new law, the county pistol permit office has been overwhelmed with many questions from current permit holders and received an unprecedented number of new applications for processing. As of Thursday, over the past nine days the pistol permit office had accepted 700 new applications, compared to 1,429 applications in all of 2021.
I want to acknowledge and thank the pistol permit office staff for their efforts to process this voluminous paperwork, and let those who have waited in long lines to submit their applications know that we appreciate their patience. |
