Anchorage biathlete Maja Lapkass is one of six teenagers who will represent the United States at the Youth Olympic Games early next year in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Lapkass, 16, earned her spot during a series of eight qualifying races six of them on snow last winter, and two of them on rollerskis earlier this month in Jericho, Vermont.

One of the top junior biathletes in the United States, Lapkass won two medals one gold, one silver at last seasons Junior Nationals. She competed for the West High cross-country ski team last season as a sophomore but is spending her junior year at a winter sports academy in Sweden.

Youth Olympics, held every four years since 2012, are Jan. 9-22. They are open to athletes 15 to 18 years old.

Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett, a Republican, runs perhaps the safest city in Michigan, but when Congress returns to the nation's capital a week from Monday, he will be chief among gun control advocates demanding that laws be passed in the wake of deadly shootings in El Paso and Dayton this month that killed 31 people.

Barnett was elected president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, a group representing every city in the country with a population of 30,000 or more, about a month before the Aug. 3-4 shootings.

So you just put a suppressor or an RMR on your handgun. Surprise, those sights no longer work. They're blocked by either the suppressor or RMR. What you need is taller sights. XSsights has a great line of suppressor height sights.

Backers of an approaching law allowing Oklahomans to carry a gun without training or a permit say theyre willing to test compliance with the law by showing up in certain places carrying a firearm.

These so-called Second Amendment audits have already occurred involving weapons, with permits, in parks and the Oklahoma City Zoo. But with a permitless carry law set to take effect Nov. 1, some supporters say theyre willing to visibly bear a firearm without a permit to ensure authorities honor the law.

Accusing their Democratic colleagues of making a not-so-thinly veiled threat, Senate Republicans took the unusual step Thursday of writing a letter to the Supreme Court about a gun-rights case being appealed from New York.

Our colleagues did more than raise legal arguments in favor of mootness, the letter states, with signatures from 53 Republicans led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. They openly threatened this court with political retribution if it failed to dismiss the petition as moot. The implication is as plain as day: Dismiss this case, or well pack the court.

Proliferation inevitably prompted gun control laws. Our 182-year history of taxing, licensing, restriction, purchaser records, background checks, and gun owner protections is lengthy, and can be found on internet websites such as thoughtco.com. State and federal governments have struggled to balance the rights of all citizens alike, pursuant to the Second Amendments protection for weapons carried for self-defense.

Ive opined before that a vote for any Democrat now is support for a party that at its corrupted roots seeks to silence you if you disagree, will not debate policy but simply tag you with vile labels, and will say literally anything, promise everything, and tell any lie to grab and maintain power. And they would have no compunction ginning up a charge to use red flag laws to take your self-defense weapon.

Every major Democratic leader since Bill Clinton, including Barak Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Joe Biden, Diane Feinstein, Harry Reid, to name only a few, have over the years spoken out against illegal immigrants and for border security and deportations.

How Do We Turn California and New York Around?

California and New York are two of the largest states in the country, and until about two decades ago, had been if not Second Amendment friendly (with the exception of New York City in the latter), they were not outright hostile to the right to keep and bear arms. Today, they are so far gone that the former requires a background check to buy ammo, and the latter states governor is abusing his power to attack the NRA.

Why not implement sensible background checks and licensing of all guns? Why not pass a federal law permanently banning bump stocks and rapid-fire, magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles designed for infantry use.

The right to self-defense is largely meaningless if it does not include the right to choose the most effective means of defending oneself, he wrote.

The U.S. Supreme Court later declined to hear the Highland Park case, effectively letting the 7th Circuit ruling stand. Justice Clarence Thomas, joined by then-Justice Antonin Scalia, said the 7th Circuit ruling flouts two of our Second Amendment precedents.

Crenshaw dismissed the idea of confiscating more than 300 million weapons.

Were not going to do what Australia did, Australia doesnt have a Second Amendment.

He also pointed out that the program did not impact Australias crime rate.

During the sometimes heated exchange on guns, Crenshaw ardently defended Second Amendment rights.

The upcoming Supreme Court case New York Rifle and Pistol Association v. the City of New York could be the first major Second Amendment case in almost a decade. It centers around a New York City regulation prohibiting residents from taking their guns to second homes and shooting ranges outside the city, even when the guns are unloaded and separated from ammunition. New Yorks NRA affiliate and some gun-owning residents challenged the regulation, but, in the midst of litigation, New York City changed it raising the question of whether the case was now moot.
