Some Black Creek Conservancy Club members claim members of the Michigan Militia Black Creek Volunteers began infiltrating the club over the past three to five years.
A lawsuit was filed against the the club on Aug.18 in Isabella County, claiming since the infiltration of the club the defendants and their co-conspirators have held military-style events at the club, conducted and encouraged virtual nonstop live-firing on the club's grounds and held a "submachine gun" shooting event against the wishes of the membership, among other things.
Bruce Eggers, president of the Black creek Conservation Club said, "At this point I'm not going to say a lot. And it's their point of view and a lot of it is just fake. It's fake news. |

In its first decision in a school discipline case, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled zero tolerance policies on school fighting cannot deny students the right to assert they were defending themselves. The court said Georgia law gives students the legal right to argue self-defense as a justification.
Georgia Code states, A person is justified in threatening or using force against another whenhe or she reasonably believes that such threat or force is necessary to defend himself or herself or a third person against such others imminent use of unlawful force.
In essence, the states highest court ruled that Georgia law on self-defense trumps school zero tolerance policies on fighting. |

A judge was correct to dismiss a manslaughter charge against a deputy based on Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law after he fatally shot a black man carrying a realistic-looking air rifle, an appeals court ruled Wednesday in a case headed for state Supreme Court review.
The 4th District Court of Appeal agreed that the self-defense law granting immunity from prosecution can apply not only to private citizens, but also to law enforcement officers. |

For too many men and women who have served our country in uniform, however, the status quo does not protect due process and Second Amendment rights. Under the current system, if a veteran or beneficiary requires assistance managing their Veterans Administration benefits, the VA deems them mentally incompetent. Their name is then added to the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS), even if they are not judged to be a danger to themselves or others. The burden is then placed on the veteran to appeal.
That is not how our system should work on behalf of our veterans. |

The day Louisiana hunters have been waiting for is at hand dove season has arrived, meaning other seasons are not far behind.
Dove hunting opens Saturday and, despite muddy or flooded fields and bird populations scattered by Tropical Storm Harveys rains, thousands of adults and youngsters will take to fields from one end of the state to the other for a traditional Labor Day weekend hunt. This is often as much social outing as it is a hunting event.
Hunters may have to wear rubber knee boots instead of leather ones, or even tennis shoes, and theyll look for the highest ground around, but theyll be there. It is, in essence, a New Years Weekend for them. |

There has been a lot of talk recently about suppressors on guns, but we need to be equally concerned about suppressors on elected officials. Something is seriously wrong when legislators who pledged support of the Second Amendment suddenly grow silent when an anti-gun bill comes before them. And this is not just in California, folksit is a problem everywhere. |

Ghost guns exist because of Californias strict gun laws
Interesting read on the ghost guns and black market ( Ghost guns are easy to build, legal and completely untraceable, Aug. 27). But why do they exist?
Ghost guns are an answer to Californias onerous and restrictive gun laws that penalize the average law-abiding citizen but do nothing to stop criminals from getting weapons. Our wonderful state legislators have created another avenue for criminals to obtain firearms and an even bigger black market. |

Once a year, gun rights leaders and activists from around the country get together to discuss the state of the movement, and strategies for advancing the cause, at the Gun Rights Policy Conference, sponsored by the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
The weekend conference is routinely scheduled for the last weekend in September at different locations around the country.
This year's conference is taking place in Dallas, Texas, beginning on Friday evening September 29, and wrapping up on Sunday October 1. An Alternative Mass Media Conference is scheduled to take place in conjunction with GRPC this year, running all day on Friday the 29th. |

Marcina Cole with the group Observers in the Courtroom said support from the public kept Plummer from serving an even longer sentence.
The public pressure and the media coming out here with the supporters, in conjunction with the attorneyyou know, I think that it helped quite a bit, Cole said.
Layla Hamdan was also among those supporters of Plummer who sayy it was not fair he could not use self-defense in his case. And Im just here supporting Juwan and his family cause I dont want to see another young black man in jail, she said.
Plummer could have been sentenced to 10 years in prison if he was convicted as initially charged. |

The right to drive cars, trucks, vans, etc. is not protected by the U.S. Constitution. Obviously, motorized vehicles were not in existence at the writing of our great constitutional document. And even though animal-driven vehicles existed, the courts have ruled that it is a privilege to drive motorized vehicles on the roads.
There is a constitutional right to bear arms. And it is true that, just like the horrible situations discussed above, guns are often used improperly in acts of violence and/or terror.

A federal court judge in Illinois has denied a City of Chicago motion for summary judgment and refused to dismiss a case challenging a ban of firearms sales within city limits that is backed by the Second Amendment Foundation.
It is the latest in a string of court battles between Chicago and SAF, causing SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb to observe;
Weve already beat Chicago three times, in the McDonald case before the Supreme Court, and both Ezell 1 and Ezell 2 before the federal court of appeals. Im reminded of the folk song by Peter, Paul and Mary that asked, When will they ever learn? |

Humboldt County farmers have been complaining of stray bullets hitting too close to home, prompting the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors to ask the sheriff's office and the county's attorney to draft an ordinance to put an end to reckless shooting on public land.
Shakefork Community Farm in Carlotta sits on prime land just east of Highway 101. Owner Kevin Cunningham said the sound of bullets is common in his area.
"The property is bordered by the Van Duzen River, as well as Cummings Creek on the side; it's about 45 open acres. The entire property is about 85 acres, so we got about 40 acres of river and trees," said Cunningham. Cunningham said his land by the creek and river make it a perfect spot for recreational shooting. |

Indiana legislators should not eliminate a state law that requires a license to carry a handgun.
A legislative committee met last week to start talking about a proposal to do just that. Similar legislation has failed the past two years.
Most if not all police organizations oppose such a proposal. Law enforcement officials argued at the hearing last week that the current law should be kept in place. Its not as if the current law is onerous toward law-abiding people who want to carry a handgun. But it includes this very reasonable language: |

We cannot tip-toe around this subject: It is time to ban weapons from protests and rallies.
Public safety is at stake. Police cannot adequately monitor potentially incendiary gatherings, with rhetoric running long and tempers spiking high, when participants are brandishing guns and rifles. And for multiple reasons, the zeitgeist in the country right now is compelling throngs of citizens with varying ideals and beliefs to protest.
We firmly support the rights set forth in the First Amendment for freedom of speech and for the people peaceably to assemble. This means all people, not just the ones whose views align with ours. |

I wasnt always a gun girl. As a matter of fact, only 5 years ago, my knowledge of firearms was limited to what little Id learned about the hunting shotguns our family used during my childhood.
Once I started traveling often and alone, however, I decided to buy my first handgun simply for protection. Still, I had acquired very little knowledge except the basic shooting skills and cleaning.
When I first took a job at a local gun shop, I was a bit overwhelmed. There seemed to be so much to learn about so many things. After a few years of working in the gun industry, Im still far from an expert. But I have had the opportunity to help many women purchase their first firearm, and assist them on the best way to carry it concealed. |

As Hurricane Harvey continues to bear down on communities in Texas, looters are taking the opportunity to steal property left behind in retail shops and abandoned homes. Based on several encounters people have had with the looters, they have been violent. In one case, they fired shots at law enforcement officials.
In another, a rescuer for the famed Louisiana Cajun Navy says looters tried to steal their boats and fired shots at them while they were trying to save Houston residents from flooded homes. Theres looters out here, as in any time you have a natural disaster or catastrophe, he said. Were OK. |

Several anti-gun bills have been scheduled to be heard in their respective committees and two anti-gun bills could be heard on the Senate floor at any time.
Tomorrow, Thursday, August 31, AJR 24 is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee. AJR 24 would urge the Congress of the United States to not enact S. 446, H.R. 38, or any other similar concealed carry reciprocity legislation that would require the State of California to recognize the concealed carry standards of every other state. Please use our take action button below to send an email to the members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee and urge them to OPPOSE AJR 24. |

As the list of states that have campus carry laws grows, more college officials are being faced with the task of developing and implementing concealed carry policies. Campus public safety departments should no doubt play a primary role in those policy discussions, and campus police need to be prepared to be on the front lines of enforcing whatever concealed carry policy their institution comes up with. |
