An Upper Peninsula lawmaker believes Michigan residents shouldn't have to pay sales tax to exercise their Second Amendment rights to bear arms.

State Rep. Beau LaFave, a Republican of Iron Mountain, introduced legislation on Thursday that would exempt firearms and ammunition from the 6 percent state sales tax.

He pointed out no other rights enshrined in the Constitution are subject to taxation.

The state doesnt tax our right to free speech. It doesnt tax our right to vote. It doesnt tax our right to seek counsel in trial, LaFave said. So why on earth is the state allowed to make a direct commission off our right to bear arms?"

An airline passenger who denied bringing any prohibited items into the United States didn't get one foot outside Detroit Metro Airport after border agents took a closer look at his luggage: He was hauling body armor that led to an even bigger discovery.

Authorities said the 20-year-old man had a weapons cache at his metro Detroit residence, complete with high capacity magazines and "bump-stock" devices.

As a result, the government said, he was rerouted back to China on the next flight out, declared inadmissible to the U.S.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection disclosed this information in a news release Friday, in which it explained how CBP agents made the discovery, which happened on Aug. 18.

It is neither moral nor practical for you to give away the right of self-defense. It isnt our right of self-defense; it is yours, as in one to a customer. Most of us couldnt give it away we tried. The idea of outsourcing our defense is so foreign that we hardly know what it looks like.

Recent mass shooting events trigger the debate about how many of these events result from Americans relatively easy access to guns.

The U.S. is one of only three countries in the world where the right to own guns for self-defense is protected in the constitution. Public mass shootings account for a tiny fraction of the countrys gun deaths. Yet public mass shooting are uniquely terrifying in that most of the victims are chosen not for any reason, but simply for where they happen to beat random.

The Radical New Progressive Left abhors guns as much from an aesthetic standpoint as from a political, social, and ethical one.

Thus, they never fail to use a particularly tragic albeit rare instance of misuse of a firearm by the criminal and the occasional lunatic to denounce firearms ownership and possession generally, vociferously, and this is reflected in the question they ask and the manner in which they ask it: How can society protect itself from the scourge of guns?

A jury has acquitted a man who was shot and injured by police, of pointing a gun at two officers.

Jurors deliberated for about 30 minutes Thursday before finding Ronnie Craig Calvert, 45, not guilty of pointing a firearm at Oklahoma City police officers Dalton Kennedy and Megan Morgan on March 17, 2015.

Kennedy and Morgan fired at Calvert after police said he refused to drop a firearm he was holding and then raised it in the direction of the officers.

Most people now understand that red flag laws violate the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights, and many Republicans, including the president, now seem willing to join Democrats, after the recent shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Denton, Texas, by left-and right wing extremists, to put dents in the Second Amendment hoping these laws might somehow help. But few people realize that they also virtually emasculate the Bill of Rights. What follows are the amendments red flag laws damage and how.

A judge on Friday dismissed attempted murder charges against a couple that Des Moines police had accused of shooting a man outside a liquor store this week.

A Des Moines police news release Friday afternoon did not specify the reason beyond saying that "additional evidence has been discovered" by detectives and passed to prosecutors, who asked for the charges to be dropped.

This ruling once again supports Justice Clarence Thomass argument that the Supreme Court needs to stop this erosion of Americans Second Amendment rights. As Thomas recently wrote, The Framers made a clear choice: They reserved to all Americans the right to bear arms for self-defense. I do not think we should stand by idly while a State denies its citizens that right, particularly when their very lives may depend on it. Justice Thomas may get the opportunity hes been calling for, as the Illinois State Rifle Association, which sued Cook County over this assault weapons ban, plans to appeal to the Supreme Court.

Flight from men carrying guns is eminently sensible. On the other hand, requiring citizens and law-enforcement officers to guess correctly whether the men are staging a gun-culture rite or mass homicide is nothing short of deranged. In the theater world, bad reviews can kill a show. In open-carry drama, performers are empowered to murder anyone in the theater. Periodically, they do.

The Crimson Trace CWL-300 handheld tactical flashlight provides uncluttered performance in a small and reliable package, one thats rugged enough to survive and thrive when the unthinkable happenswhether its an armed home invader or hurricane pounding down the door. It wont earn headlines for cutting edge features, but generous output and intuitive activation make it ideal for gun owners looking for a lightweight everyday carry option and families adding to their kit during National Preparedness Month (September).

It isnt often that a product announcement catches me off guard, but that is exactly what happened when the Springfield XD-E Langdon Tactical Edition was announced.

Renowned Beretta nerd, Ernest Langdon, stepped out of his comfort zone and looked beyond the Beretta line for the fifth firearm to get Ernests special sauce. He says that because the Springfield XD-E is the only viable single stack DA/SA pistol on the market, it was the only obvious choice.

US senators, Democrats and Republicans alike, are in a huff over a Second Amendment case in the Supreme Court. The gun-rights matter, raised by the New York Rifle and Pistol Association and stemming from a New York City law, is inspiring unusual writing from both sides of the political aisle.
