"An organization like Oath Keepers cant exist without attracting opposition, including from people ostensibly on 'our side.'"
"I experienced some of that firsthand when I announced on my Facebook page ... that I would be writing for Oath Keepers, and received a warning accusing this group of all kinds of thing. It turns out he had a personal ax to grind. When I asked him to provide documentation of his accusations, so that everyone exposed to them could validate things for themselves, he suddenly went dark."
"I get that good people are going to disagree with each other ... When we do, and when accusations start flying, the best thing to do is get things out in the open and then see if allegations can be substantiated. ..." ... |

"A potentially controversial federal case announced yesterday against three North Carolina men who are alleged to have 'stockpiled weapons, ammunition and tactical gear' and tried to make explosives while preparing for some kind of martial law, and another arrest of an armed tourist at New Yorks 9/11 memorial suggest some alarming things about the current cultural mindset."
"The North Carolina trio ... were arrested Saturday, according to published reports. Allegations against the men include attempting to manufacture pipe bombs ... But media reports also suggest they are in trouble for having lots of guns and ammunition, which if that really is against the law could land millions of gun owners in legal hot water." ... |

"Among the People of the Gun, the necessity of a license to carry a concealed firearm is discussed with some frequency. Depending on the state, it may be called a Concealed Carry Weapons permit (CCW), a Concealed Handgun License (CHL), or something else (since my state, Ohio, calls it a CCW, I shall use that acronym throughout the rest of the article). A couple of the main debate points are whether requiring a permit actually stops criminals from carrying. Most believe they dont and whether a CCW is an unconstitutional infringement on the natural, inalienable right to self-defense . . ."

"So there I was on the hillside, a term that over-dignifies the erosion gully I was working to turn into safe access to a fantastic beach. My mind was on finishing the ballast for the railroad tie Id just put in to make what most people would call a step, but which Id learned to refer to as a human erosion mitigation device because the volunteer project had to be about erosion in order to comply with certain regulations. But thats a different story. My mind was on that ballast because once it was packed in firmly, the step would be safe for use and I wouldnt have to keep standing there in the sun, smelling the creosote baking out of every tie on the slope . . ." ... |

"I dont like being unarmed. I feel more comfortable knowing that I could defend myself with the most effective form of self-defense, anytime, anywhere. So I carry all the time. All day, every day. The only time I dont have my concealed firearm on my body: when I sleep. Then its under my bed in the safe, or next to me in the nightstand, depending on the circumstances. I recommend home carry for anyone whos decided to carry a gun; violent crime can happen anywhere, anytime. But I know the threat of attack at home is more 'real' for some people than others. ... "Nobody outside of an Asimov novel has the ability to predict which white racist or which radical (Muslim or otherwise) will actually commit violence in service of their views. Not even if someone already has a criminal record can we predict their actions. There is usually someone jumping in after a shooting to remind hysterical people that a radical, a religious person, or even a racist is not an inherently violent person. Criminals have fewer people in their corners."
"Yet we live in a country that has 2.3 million people in prison. We need to accept that people with a record deserve a second chance, especially if we want them to turn their lives around." ... |

"Im a big Kydex holster fan. Yes, Ive used some great leather holsters and Ill concede that for EDC, leather is the most comfortable. But for range days, hiking around, and general 'beat it up' duty, Kydex is king. In my preparation for Run n Gun this year, and my a great stroke of luck at a competition prize table, I picked up a TYR Tactical Sniper Harness. It uses MOLLE webbing as the attachment platform along the belt. Fine for things like mag pouches and various other items, but Ive never found a MOLLE compatible holster that I liked until now . . ." ... |

Unfortunately, most magnified optics are in the form of a scope mounted to a rifle or a spotting scope that weighs a couple pounds. "These guys ... had stockpiled weapons, ammunition and tactical gear while attempting to rig home-made explosives. They were arrested ... after a month-long federal investigation."
"More than a few of the participants in the discussion I read argued that the government has no business interfering with the stockpiling of weapons, ammo and explosives. It was asserted that citizens have their Second Amendment rights to amass any kind of arsenal they might want."
