August is National Shooting Sports Month, complete with a statement from the White House encouraging Americans to participate in recreational and sport shooting activities to continue to learn from this tradition and to promote a culture of safety and responsibility, but in Washington State, that means anti-gunners are working to elect local lawmakers who will help erode Second Amendment rights.
The Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, a billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobbying group, sent out an email blast with a link to its website revealing the names of 28 candidates being endorsed for this years local election primaries. |

North Carolina-based Remington Arms has asked the Supreme Court to decide, once and for all, if gun manufacturers should be held responsible for crimes committed with their product. Remington has been in a drawn out legal battle with a survivor and families of the Sandy Hook shooting that took place in Sandy Hook, Connecticut in 2012. The gunman used a Bushmaster XM15-E2S, commonly referred to as an AR-15, to carry out his attack that left 26 dead, including 20 children and seven adults. One of the victims was his mother. |

The past weeks string of horrific mass shootings already have triggered a predictable set of reactions from across the political spectrumbut especially among Republicans. GOP leaders typically frame the question of gun violence as an outgrowth of personal or cultural pathologiesmental health, the decline of family values, and video game addiction, among other maladies. Focusing the debate on these issues conveniently deflects attention from any government efforts to effectively regulate access to guns, which Republican politicians and the conservative donor class regard as both counterproductive and contrary to the original understanding of the Second Amendment. |

In 2016, I began a campaign to run for the NRA Board of Directors by petition of the members. The idea to run for the Board started with a conversation between myself and two Board Members at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg that February. Those two Board Members were amongst those who recently resigned. After many phone calls, questions, and a lot of thought, I decided the pursue a seat, in the hopes that I would be able to lend some new ideas and a different take on issues of the Organization. |

In 2004, the Hornady Manufacturing Company introduced the .17 Hornady Mach 2 (.17 HM2) using a .22 LR case that had been extended and necked down. This cartridge should not be mistaken for the Hornady .17 HMR, which is based on the case of a .22 Magnum. The .17 HM2 is designed to take varmint at 100 yards or more, and performs the task admirably. It develops a similar amount of energy as the .22 LR in foot pounds, but it travels at a higher velocity resulting in a flatter bullet trajectory. |

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of men and women. Thomas Paine, The Crisis, Intro. (Dec. 1776). |
