Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer who shot and killed her neighbor inside his own apartment in 2018, failed in her first appeal of her murder conviction, a court ruled Thursday.

Guyger is serving a 10-year sentence for the killing of Botham Jean, a Black man who lived in the same apartment building as Guyger and was eating ice cream in his apartment when she entered and shot him on September 2018.

Guyger, who is white, testified that she thought she was entering her own apartment and thought Jean was an intruder. She was later fired from the Dallas Police Department after the shooting.

Police who responded to the report of a shooting found Rays body inside the womans apartment with a gunshot to the head, Ciaccia said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Cleveland police released the unidentified woman from custody Wednesday.

But some academics are claiming, based on a new type of research called corpus analysis, to have found fresh evidence that Scalia was wrong. Bearing arms, they say, overwhelmingly referred to military service in the Founding era, rather than simply referring to the carrying of weapons. These scholars further suggest that Heller might have been wrong more deeply even when it comes to keeping arms though that is not the focus of the current case (and their bear arms argument is generally recognized as their strongest).

Why are Red State Democratic Senators Voting for David Chipman?

Democrats have voted in unison, with only Neera Tanden, Bidens pick to head his budget office, facing bipartisan opposition. But the White House is pulling out all the stops to push through David Chipmans confirmation to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). And Democrats want the vote to take place this week.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claims that the largely Republican opposition to Chipman speaks volumes to their complete refusal to tackle this spike in crime weve seen over the last 18 months. Of course, the Biden administrations focus on gun control to control violent crime ignores that 92% of violent crime has nothing to do with guns.

As a nationwide ammunition shortage frustrates gun owners and retailers, Kansas law enforcement agencies say they have sufficient supply to train officers as prices go up.

"It's just supply and demand at this point everyone wants it, and we want it, too," said Lt. Benjamin Blick, the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office spokesperson. "So the price has increased."

Deputy Abigail Christian, a spokesperson for the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office, said the agency has observed the price increases in the past year.

If you find yourself in a situation where you have to defend yourself, you must know your rights. It's also essential to know the difference between self-defense and assault.

Many states, including Texas, carry laws that allow people to defend themselves in a life-threatening situation with a reasonable belief that force is necessary. However, these laws vary from state to state. The location of the would-be crime also plays a role in some states and situations.

There are three types of self-defense laws:

Recently, my wife and I bought electric bikes or e-bikes to help with our aerobic exercise routine and cardiovascular fitness. Being seniors we are not as active as we want and cannot participate in our usual full-contact ice hockey like we did last year to keep us in shape. I wish.

One concern we thought about was can we defend ourselves when on our bikes if we are attacked?

...Perrys defense attorneys say Det. Fugitt found that Perry shot Foster on the night of July 25, 2020, in self-defense and that Foster was a criminal killed in commission of a crime. District Attorney Garza nevertheless took the case to an Austin grand jury, which indicted Perry.

Perry is an Army sergeant serving at Ft. Hood. Austin is a Democrat stronghold.

Judge Clifford Brown presided over that hearing in his 147th Court on Wednesday.

As several local media outlets reported, Judge Brown denied Perrys motion for a hearing on Garzas alleged conduct. Thats true. What they failed to report was that his motion was denied without prejudice pending the results of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Texas Rangers.

Visiting Judge Marjorie Lord Carter dismissed an attempted murder charge against an Arcata man this morning, agreeing that Kaven Dangerfield was acting in self-defense when he repeatedly stabbed his roommate during an altercation the night of July 19.

Carter, after hearing evidence presented during a preliminary hearing, held the 29-year-old Dangerfield to answer only on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. She also dismissed the special allegations that Dangerfield personally used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury on Samuel Sam Matranga, who suffered a punctured lung and numerous stab wounds.

Revisiting the Right to Bear Arms after Summer 2020 Rioting

The basic theme of the article is that the inability or unwillingness (often under standdown orders from politicians) of law enforcement to protect life and property during the summer 2020 riots and looting in cities across the country undermines the claim of opponents of the right to keep and bear arms that individual firearms ownership is obsolete given the existence of modern police forces.

One contribution the article makes is to document the scope of the lawlessness last summer, which was largely ignored by the media. The article did not attempt to be comprehensive, but it may still be the most thorough discussion of the extent of the unrest, the lack of police response, and of efforts by citizens to protect themselves with firearms

The Mexican government sued U.S. gun manufacturers and distributors Wednesday in U.S. federal court, arguing that their negligent and illegal commercial practices have unleashed tremendous bloodshed in Mexico.

The unusual lawsuit was filed in U.S. federal court in Boston. Among those being sued are some of the biggest names in guns, including: Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.; Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc.; Beretta U.S.A. Corp.; Colts Manufacturing Company LLC, and Glock Inc. Another defendant is Interstate Arms, a Boston-area wholesaler that sells guns from all but one of the named manufacturers to dealers around the United States.

Yes, Chipman supports sensible, proven restrictions regarding firearms to improve public safety, as do I, and many of my fellow Montanans and fellow gun owners. Does this violate our constitutional rights? No. There have and always will be restrictions on Second Amendment rights. I would have to meet stringent requirements to own an M60 machine gun. I am not allowed to have an M203 grenade launcher, an M1 Abrams tank, a LAAW (Light Anti-Tank Assault Weapon), Stinger anti-aircraft missile or a nuclear warhead. Those all seem like reasonable restrictions to me. We all draw the line somewhere.

Lott showcased two books treatises may be a better word that he has written on the subject.

If it seems like youve read that headline or a similar one recently, youre not going crazy. Weve written it before as weve highlighted this trend that wont stop; no doubt, we will do so here again in the future.

According to new data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), this past July was the second-highest July on record for the number of background checks conducted in the sale of a firearm.

It should also be noted that this past Julys figure of nearly 1.3 million background checks conducted via the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is only overshadowed by the record-breaking number of 1.8 conducted in July of last year. Last year was also record shattering.

For perspective, realize that the Mexican government did not sue the Obama administration for Operation Fast and Furious, a gun-running operation in which officials at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) told U.S. gun-store owners to sell guns to known gun runners. ATF leadership then ordered its agents to stand down as the guns were trafficked to Mexico. All that came out in congressional hearings. ATF whistleblowers even detailed how they were ordered to allow the bad guys to buy and traffic guns illegally to Mexicoat least one of those trafficked guns was used to murder a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"You seem ... to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all contitutional questions; a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy... The Contitution has erected no such single tribunal." --Thomas Jefferson, 1820
