Okay, I admit it: I grew up shooting guns. And Im not safe if youre armed; and youre deluding yourself if you think youre well-trained to use firearms. Back in the dark ages, the only things anyone had a gun for was to hunt for food, to deal with pests who eluded trapping and were trashing your garden or causing destruction in the barn, and the unlikely time one might need to dispatch a rabid wild critter. Guns stayed in their places unless they were being used for a job they were tools for acquiring and protecting food, mostly, and you didnt leave your tools scattered about.

Death Wish Remake Already Causing Liberal Angst?

Scheduled to open in theaters Nov. 22 a date that will register with many as the anniversary of John F. Kennedys assassination in Dallas director Eli Roths remake of Death Wish with Bruce Willis taking over the Charles Bronson role of urban vigilante Paul Kersey, seems to be giving liberals the shudders.

After all, we simply cant glorify the notion that a private citizen whose family was brutally victimized by criminals and then treated with matter-of-fact indifference by a broken legal system just might decide the only way to get justice is to do it himself. We can on the silver screen, however.

Dear Abby is often thought to be an expert on all things etiquette, but shes recently had to apologize for the advice she gave to a concerned mom. In a June edition of her advice column, Jeanne Phillips who publishes Dear Abby under the pen name Abigail Van Buren, just like her mother before her told a mom from New Jersey that it was off-putting to ask other parents if they have guns in their homes before allowing her daughter to play at their houses.

Pistol Caliber Carbines are much on our minds of late. While wed argue there are good rationales (note the plural), theres a time-honored favorite that trumps them all in the land of the free and the home of the brave: They are crazy good fun. Inexpensive fodderpistol ammunitionand light recoil are two of the most obvious reasons, but there are others of a more practical bent. A thoroughly rational favorite is that PCCs are welcome where rifle calibers would not be: In other words, we can practice/train on a PCC for skills that transfer readily to centerfire ARs or other rifle types without needing a rifle-capable berm or indoor facility. Not all PCCs are or must be AR-plan guns of course.

We hunt and fish in our family. Our daughter was able to cast a fly rod, catch a fish and return it gently to the river by the age of six. Both of our kids have been taught to safely handle guns and we have a freezer full of elk that gets us through the year until the next hunting season. Our son will soon attend a hunter safety course and our daughter will as well when shes old enough. We buy tags and licenses and have plenty of hunting and fishing equipment mixed in with our mountain bikes and ski gear.

A line of more girls than boys stood waiting Saturday morning to get the chance to use a bow and arrow. When they got to the front, a volunteer with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation guided them in how to place their feet, hold the bow, load the arrow and then let the arrow fly. Some popped their targeted balloons and other times the arrow missed, but all appeared to have a good time.

It might look like doom and gloom for American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ: AOBC) after it reported weaker guidance than expected, but to paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumors of the gunslinger's demise have been greatly exaggerated. The owner of Smith & Wesson continually surprises Wall Street, and it's likely to do so again in the coming quarters. In addition to the core firearms business, there are a number of good reasons why the best days are still ahead for this company.

In Los Angeles County, mostly rich white guys with political connections get their concealed carry permits. In California, we're ruled by elites.

*Politicians make gun laws that the politicians dont have to follow.
*Law enforcement applies the laws..laws that dont apply to the police.
*Judges rule on gun laws..again, laws that dont apply to judges.

We established government of, by, and for the elites. Disarming honest citizens might cost politicians votes, but it costs us lives. Ill spell it out for you step by step. (400 words at the link)

One again we are slapped in the face with the reality of statistics. Last week in Warner Robins a 4-year-old boy found a gun, we dont know exactly where, but it was somewhere inside the car where he and three other children were riding. We dont know if it was in the glove compartment or the handbag of the woman who had left the children unattended in the car while she went into a restaurant to pick up food.

Not by my definition, at least the way some people go at it. Advances in technology have offered several new ways to locate game, and some think its become unfair to the quarry. When I started deer hunting 50 years ago, I devised a method to learn whether a deer trail was being frequented. Id string a thread about 18 inches high across the trail, tied tight to a tree and lying loosely in a bush on the other side. Upon later inspection, I could see if the thread was moved, revealing the direction of the deers travel. Some told me I was cheating. What do you think?

Investigators recently determined that the 81,000 acre fire in Mariposa County was caused by gunfire. The staff at Nice Shot Guns and Shooting Range in Redding said sparks from ammunition are how these types of wildfires start. Andrew Hackett is a National Rifle Association training counselor and instructor. He said copper, brass and lead ammunition has very little likelihood of causing the sparks that could easily start a fire during this hot summer season.
